  1. .22LR Automatic - Ruger 10/22. There are plenty of accessories for these great little rifles, like folding stocks and hi-cap mags. Lever Action - Marlin 39. Great little lever gun. Tactical Shotgun Either a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 590. Both are great shotguns. Another possibility is the Saiga 12, but you need to convert it back to a true AK format. Move the trigger forward, change out the trigger group, change the stock out, add a pistol grip and get Surefire mags. All changed out parts need to be US made though.
  2. I decided not to go with the Stainless, though I think my next Mora will be one. Probably buy a 2000. Looks like a good one. Mora's are addictive. At least they are for me.

This The Dove World Out Reach Center seems like they are stirring up a bunch of needless trouble. Hate to see some our troops be put in harms way needlessly because a bunch of rednecks found it necessary to burn a book or two.
  4. 12 gauge is a good all purpose round, but they take a lot of space up if your in a static place. And if your moving around, they weight an awful lot. If you don't believe me, go buy a 100 count box of field loads and put them in your back pack along with the rest of your bug out stuff and then walk around with it for a day. If I were going to pack a .308, I'd probably pick a bolt or a lever gun for it. Seems like most of the military style rifles are set up for more 7.62x51 than .308. I know most authorities on the subject, don't recommend firing .308 out of a 7.62x51 rifle for any extended period of time. Where as there is not problem in firing 7.62x51 in the .308 chambered rifle. I wonder though if a good hunting caliber would be better. Say a 30/30, just because the rounds are going to be a lot easier to scrounge. When one is thinking of weapons to carry, I think scrounging ability should be taken into account. I think that's the reason you see most here picking the lowly .22Lr. I read on another forum that your probably much more likely to run across a large amount of .22lr than any other round, simply because they are cheap, easy to store and easy to shoot. And if you know what your doing, they will kill just about anything in North America. Don't believe that, watch Swamp People on the History Channel on Sunday nights and note the caliber that all the swampers us to take out gators with.
  5. You know, this thread should really be renamed MORA Carbon Clipper. These knives have nothing to with Frost Cutlery in Chattanooga which we all know of and some love.
  6. That's a great idea! There is a lot we can do that is simple and cheap to do! Good place to check for cheap sheets is Good Will or any local thrift store. Building a simple tarp shelter is basic to Bushcraft.
  7. Kershaw makes a quality knife! I carry a scallion daily.
  8. A lot of people use mustard to get a good patina. I've thought about doing that to my #1. A good site to check out is Bushcraft USA Portal. Also check out Ragweed Forge. That's a really awesome site.
  9. Who did you order it from? I think you will be happy with it.
  10. Mora knives have a cult following among those in the Bushcrafting world. A lot of new bushcrafters start out with them and end up staying with them. The neck knife that Cory Lundin carries on Dual Survivor is a Mora 510 or 511. Many survival schools issue either the 510 or 511 to their students. They are cheap knives, but out of the box, you will not find any sharper! They are not thick blades, but they are tough. You can see people batoning with them on youtube, though I think they are a little to light for that sort of work. They come in one of three types of blades, carbon steel, stainless steel and triflex (a laminate). The rockwell hardness on them is 57-62 depending on which blade you choice. The Swedish Army issues the Mora 2000 to it's troops. It has a 4" stainless steel blade. They are also favored by hikers and bushcrafters, because they are light. A typical Mora with sheath, will weight in at less than 5oz. The blades are also typically 3.5 to 4.5 inches in length. I don't own the Clipper, I have a #1 in carbon steel and a 780. It has a triflex blade. I LOVE them both. Best knives I've ever owed so far. I skinned a 5' walking stick for my son out of a seasoned piece of locust and another me that's 7' long. Used the 780 triflex on both and it is still sharp as the day I got it! There is one bad thing about Moras and just about every review touches on it. Their sheaths are, shall we say, not the best in the world. They are plastic, ugly and cheap. Most people get a new after market sheath or make one of their on. Here is the kicker. Moras start at $9 and up. I bought both mine for $31 including shipping from Ragweed Forge ( www.ragweedforge.com ). Shipping is $6 for up to 6 knives. Ragwood is a good place to go read and learn too. Another good source is www.Bensbackwoods.com. Both of these sites are top notch and both Ragnar and Ben are super to deal with. Smoky Mountain Knife Works sells them too. If your looking for a great deal on a knife, buy a Mora. Best deal for the money you will find on the market. But don't take my word for it. Go research them on the internet. (Google is your friend ) I think you'll be impressed.
  11. I'd love to have one! Typical Washington BS!!!
  12. WOW!!! Super nice find!!!
  13. I heard today that ORSA is going to have a Vintage Mil Surp Rifle Match soon. You should enter with that one!!!
  14. Ruger Mk II or III hands down. Best value in the pistol market. Everyone should own one.
  15. Nice! I have one. With proven mags, I'd use it as a house gun in a heart beat. Maybe even out to 100 yds. I could hit a man with it at that range. Wouldn't want to be shooting rabbits with it at that range though. The magazines are the weakest part of the weapon. Never any experience with the pistols. I know Mike speaks well of his. I've often thought about purchasing one though.
  16. I have and use a LoRay sharping system. It's predates the Lansky System, but it's the same thing. I've had it for 30 years. I've also been known to stop at Smokey Mountain Knife Works and spend a buck to let them sharpen a knife for me. And of course shop too. In case you want to know, the sharpening desk is downstairs.
  17. Well... Ah... Well. I seem to have wondered into the wrong place... Bye!
  18. Stay away from Hohenwald. There is an Elephant preserve there and people might get a little spooked when they see that monster cannon come out of it's case. LOL
  19. If your looking for such things, I suggest here. British and UK Militaria - International Military Antiques

What's wrong with the SIG Mosquito and the Walther P-22? No Hi-Points Either! I still don't want to live in Chicago? Oh and back on the subject, Don't know what model H&R you have , but I wouldn't trade it for a Davis either!
  21. Nice! Your father-in-law has a real great piece of history there. Even if it proves not to have been used in WWI! Your family is fortunate!!!
  22. Hey Mike, this was my point. The average citizen isn't going to take the time to fill out a 1099. They are just going to sell the item and pocket the cash. There are a bunch of examples every weekend all over the country. They are called garage sells. I believe that in the City of Knoxville and in Knox County, you are suppose to apply for a permit to hold one and the State expects you to turn over the Sales Tax for any sales. Everyone ignores those regulations.
  23. The CS Special Force Shovel will work as a shovel, an axe, a machete and also kill Zombies. With a little practice you can even use it as a throwing knife!!! Watch the video here especially at the end. Special Forces Shovel With Sheath : Cold Steel (High Performance Knives) Doesn't open cans of 7.62x54 though. Spetnez use their male genitalia for that.
  24. I like ORSA, but I hate driving 30 miles to shoot, when I can run right down to Volunteer there on Rifle Range Road and shoot for a couple of dollars a pop. Range is limited to 100 yards though.
  25. This is one reason I buy "Used", from individuals. No one is going to fill out a 1099 for IRS on anything when they are selling something in an individual transaction. Heck I don't even know anyone that puts the correct price on a car title when they purchase it from another individual, cause who want to pay all that sales tax when they turn it into the county for a new registration... Well maybe Magicarpetride does, but being an Auto Dealer, he has too.
