  1. Well, you need to watch Dateline tonight on CNBC. They are crucifying Remington and the 700 for safety failures. Apparently the Army is having problems out of them as well. in 2003 the Sniper school reported as many as 2 accidental fires in 20 rounds. They show film of a U.S. Army sniper in the prone position with bolt cocked, safety on and hand away from the trigger. With his trigger hand he switches off the safety and the rifle goes off. They also interviewed Mike Walker who came up with the design for the 700. He is 98 years old. He admits the rifle safety and trigger have problems and on numerous occasions requested the company redesign both. He even came up with a fix that would have cost Remington 5.5 cents in the 1950's. Remington apparently didn't make that fix. Laura Watson, an officer of Remington admitted in a deposition back in January that Remington was aware that the 700 could fire under certain conditions without a pull of the trigger. They showed tape of the deposition. Not Remington's finest hour.
  2. If we are out of the recession, then I'm King Tut. And I ain't never been to Egypt!
  3. I have never heard anything bad about a Makarov. Very sturdy pistol indeed. The Russians have always manufactured very dependable firearms. Kevo, I too wish I'd invested in a couple of Comm Block weapons when they were available cheap. $5 may be the best deal I've ever heard of, short of a relative giving someone something for free!
  4. That's a nice set!
  5. Use an old Leroy sharpener system and a old Schrade Honing Steel once I get the blade sharpened. I know a lot of the guys over at another site I go to all the time use Japanese Water Stones and fine grit sandpaper.
  6. Converting a Siaga is very easy. It's a great way to go! Love mine!!!
  7. OOO! Nice looking knife!!! Good price too!
  8. Here is another nice little knife for EDC. One of the few American made folders now. Bear® Large Titanium Sideliner Lock with Amarillo Smooth Bone Handle
  9. I like both the Kershaw Blur and the SOG Flash II. Good knives, but don't they won't make you cry when you lose them. They will do all you need for an EDC to do. Spydrco Delica is another good knife.
  10. You need to pick up a second pack for your wife and even a small pack for your kid. I have a pack for all five members of my family, including my 8 year old.
  11. Large ALICE is the best deal on the market! The one problem with ALICE Packs is they look military, but you can make or purchase a cover from them that would, that wouldn't stand out so much. Still for the money, I don't think you can beat it.
  12. Yet another good reason to stay out of Federal Buildings.
  13. The best condition original rifles will be the K31's. Still find ammo for them too, but it's not cheap. Cheapest rifle to shoot would be the Mosin, followed by the Mauser. The most fun rifle to shoot of those would be the Lee Enfield. I dearly love them! All are good rifles though.
  14. Best knives I've owned are a Gerber MKII (Traded it), USMC Kabar (traded it) and a Buck NightHawk 650 (Still got that one). My favorite knives are a Mora 780, Kershaw Scallion and a Camillus TL-29 (Lineman Knife). I still got all of these. Knives I'm wanting to purchase are a US Knife (U.S. Military Pocket Knife) and a SAK One Hand Opening Trekker (Plain Blade).
  15. I belong to another wedsite for Bushcrafting. It's one of the bigger sites for such things on the web. We are planning a national meet at LBL in April. A lot of that type stuff is being planned, so I hear. You might want to check it out. Could be a cheaper alternative or a stepping stone to something like Fox Kits.
  16. I think there needs to be a lot more awareness by the British public before change will occur there. That and political will to force the necessary changes through parliament. Definitely liked the article and thought it was right on.
  17. The reason they don't want to legalize is POWER! Look at all the MONEY that gets spent on the war on drugs every year. The people that get to spend all that MONEY don't want to legalize it, because they lose their POWER! Therefore, they push for more MONEY and harsher sentences and new technology and more POWER! It's a never ending cycle. Even the drug lords don't want to see it legalized, because they'd lose their POWER and MONEY, just like the Law Enforcement Officials in this this country.
  18. +1,000,000,000 to infinity! I think one of the worst things to happen to this country is the war on drugs. It's a war that can never be won. It's cost us a lot of our rights. And look at the toll it's taken in Mexico. All because we made them illegal and created a source of chaos. Horrible, horrible decision on our part.
  19. OOPS! Nothing to see here people! Move along. Move along.
  20. Les Miles commented on the end of the game and explained what happened. LSU was confused as to what package they were going to send in. The first package was a run package with Ridley. For some reason they switched it to a pass package and pulled the run package back. Tennessee was watching this and started in with some more LBs or Linemen. Then we saw LSU's pass package coming in. Wilcox responded by sending in the pass package and then confusion reigned within our defense on the field. No one came off the field and the ball was snapped. We got the penalty. Case closed. That's what happens when your this young. We dressed less than 70 players for this game. Half of those had yet to ever make a college road trip. Unbelievable we are in such a position.
  21. Dolomite, with posts like that, you can be as long winded as you want! Very interesting!!! I've always thought that of all the "European" rounds, this is the most interesting and by far the most powerful. I knew is was used extensively in WWII by the Russians as a sub-machinegun round, but I've never heard of anyone chambering a rifle in this round. How does this heavy load compare with the 9MM Largo that was used in the in the old Mauser 93 based Destroyer Carbines? Does this round have the potential to be used in silenced weapons like the CIA used in Vietnam, in silenced Destroyer carbines? Hope for your continued recuperation from the Helicopter incident in said far away place!
  22. I guess I'm getting old, but I just don't care for all these tacticool knives I see people carrying these days. If I feel the need to carry a lock blade I carry a little Kershaw Scallion, but mostly I am carrying a Camillous Lineman's pocket knife these days. The little Camillous does just about all I need a pocket folder to do. If I were going to purchase a new pocket knife today, I'd get a German Army One Handed Trekker made by Victorinox (think Swiss Army Knife, but green) Or a One Handed Trekker with a non serrated blade. I also wouldn't pay more than $60 for a knife. $60 will buy you plenty if just about any kind of knife you might want. Just my 2 cents though.
  23. As far as I know there are now stores in Knoxville that sale stuff like that. You occasionally see some mil-surp come through Gander Mountain, but expect to bent over and there won't be any vasoline. Garufa is coorect get your C&R license.
  24. That is one sweet looking Winchester! Congratulations! It's one to pass on to the kids.
  25. Fixed blade: Mora Bushcraft Tri-Flex Folder: German Army One Handed Trekker made by Victorinox Multitool: Leatherman New Wave thought the Victorinox Line is a VERY, VERY, VERY close second! Automatic: Ok, not technically an Automatic, but I would never own one any way. It opens just as fast though. Machete: Cold Steel Kopis Machette. They dropped it from their line, but I like the pointy sword like tip. I think it would make a dandy defense weapon! The Mora Bushcraft Tri-Flex is my go-to blade. Can't beat a Mora for the price, weight, sharpness and handiest knife on the market. There is only one draw back to a Mora and that's the sheath. They are not the best in the world and most people end up buying a good after market leather sheath.
