You've got me curious about these things now. Having owned SWAK's before, I've never owned one of these with the aluminum scales.
The Swiss Army now issues a much larger and heavy knife with tools for their new issue rifles.
Which one do they now issue for curiosity's sake?

Suggest to me an Xbox Live Account Name [Contest Anyone?]
GlockSpock replied to GlockSpock's topic in General Chat
Looking for something gun related I suppose. I like the idea of placing an x before and after whatever. I may play around with that. Good suggestions so far! -
Suggest to me an Xbox Live Account Name [Contest Anyone?]
GlockSpock replied to GlockSpock's topic in General Chat
Master Debater
I'm sure that one was taken a long time ago by some six year old... -
I recently had a bit of extra cash in my pocket, so I decided to purchase an Xbox 360 Bundle. It has been a few years since I have messed around with the 360's, the "Dashboard" has really came a long way! Anyways, Live gave me a name by default, but I can change it once for free. CZ9mm is taken (by whom!?!?). Just hoping some of you wittier than I folks might be able to suggest something awesome. So if you can come up with something pro 2nd amendment, that'd be awesome! To make this fun....lets make it a contest! If someone suggests something that is available and I decide to use it, I will give that person something. I just haven't figured out what yet...

I know this is off the original post's topic, but I saw a preview for "Warm Bodies" this weekend. It looks...interesting. I will probably watch it. Look it up somewhere. Certainly different, but I think it will be worth watching.

I love Redwings. I don't pay for them, work does, but I would probably buy them even if they money came out of my own pocket. I find them very comfortable (the non steel toed versions), and they last a very long time too.
This brings to mind the imminent deployment by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of portable invisible lasers developed by Genia Laboratories (a company created by CIA offshoot In-Q-Tel) that can detect even trace amounts of gun powder from over 50 yards away. The laser reportedly can penetrate walls, glass, and metal. DHS is scheduled to take possession of the devices later this month, according to testimony presented on Capitol Hill late last year.
Been thinking about this for a few days. Sounds like it is straight out of science fiction. I'm wondering if it is science fiction; i.e. propaganda designed to place fear into anyone that has considered burying something for storage. Of course if we took any existing tech from today's society and showed it to anyone half a century ago, they would think it impossible as well. I guess I have a hard time believing a laser can penetrate walls and metal up to 50 yards away, and and then be able to bounce back and reveal the molecular structure of anything. I have been wrong before.
S&T’s first project via In-Q-Tel was just announced with a company called Genia Photonics. This company developed a tunable laser source for the medical community and S&T is investigating the feasibility of this technology to perform non-contact, trace explosives detection.
Found this in one of the articles the original story linked to. If this stuff indeed works as well as hyped, amazing technology. Unfortunately like all amazing technology, it has the potential for so much good or so much evil.

Out of curiosity, what is a "good deal" on one of these? PM if you would like. Also, does it bolt to the floor? Two men could easily carry this thing out of your house, it would probably be big enough for me right now but I just want reassurance against how good it is for stopping theft. What all do you like about it? Is there anything you dislike about it?
That game is rigged. I believe they are all guilty of something.
I think that is the point. All of them have been arrested for something, you just have to pick which "perp" was arrested for the listed crime.

what was it like in 2008? (run on ammo/reloading supplies)
GlockSpock replied to vujade's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I remember going into Sportsman's Warehouse in Chattanooga and only seeing one firearm on the wall: A cowboy style single action revolver. I also remember seeing a Glock magazine (standard capacity) sell for close to $50 at a show (perhaps they still do, haven't been to a show since). (This is answering the "What was it like in 2008?" question. I didn't and still don't pay much attention to reloading supplies, although I'd love to I currently don't have room in the rental I live in. Perhaps someday...) -
Comparing us to the above mentioned countries is hardly a valid argument, in my opinion. The US probably has more guns and gun owners than all of those countries combined.
Pass a few laws and post a few penalties, and when it comes down to it it won't matter how many gunowners this country currently has. How many fathers would risk ten years jail-time per firearm when he has a family to take care of? How many working class people would risk an ammo stockpile at $100 per round fine? It will get really hairy when times really get rough and you have people going hungry. Then all the government has to do is offer food vouchers or monetary payoffs to anyone that reports any fellow comrades holding out. Today you may be shooting buddies, but if your buddy's family is starving, he may just give the government a call and tell them about that one place you hid a box of ammo with a rifle. Of course (hopefully) this is extreme, but if the government was allowed to do it and we were to let them get away with it, it is exactly how it could go down. Today's generations have no idea what suffering is like. They have no idea what freedom means. Of course the founding fathers of our country wouldn't balk at a confiscation of arms; They would fight and die for it. They knew what it meant to live under suppression; They knew what it meant to die freely. Unfortunately, I think the 2nd amendment is something that a very large percentage would sacrifice if it were announced that no firearms owner would be allowed to buy the newest iPhone or something. Today's generation doesn't care about being free; They care about whether they have WiFi access and whether or not they have unlimited data on their cell plan. Or at least I fear...
Someone told me that the powder is made to deteriorate in two years.
I have a feeling that this rumor stems from the rumor that was going around several years ago. There was talk going around that the government was going to require that powder in ammo would "break down" in a mere matter of a few years. The thought behind this was that it would allow the government to prevent stockpiles. What good is buying thousands of rounds to store if it isn't going to be good in a years time? This of course was rumor, and although I'm sure many in government love this idea, I don't know if there was really any basis behind the rumor.
Also I carry a glock 23 every Sunday in church with a tuckable holster. My draw is MAYBE a second slower than with an untucked shirt draped over. Again it's all about what you train for. The only thing you have to watch out for is the huggers. I dodge them when I see them coming haha.
My family and my wife's family are all huggers. I got in the habit a long time ago of "hugging low". This forces in most cases the other person to "hug high".
-
But if by some chance someone did have a firearm in church and it accidently discharged what then? That would be really messed up and I bet a person would probably have to change churches afterward! LOL! People would be scared to sit next to the guy. His whole pew, the pew in front of him, and the pew behind him; all empty! People are standing in the aisles and against the wall rather than sit by him. Am I wrong for thinking that would be funny as hell?
Negligent discharges are never funny. Outside of pure mechanical failure (which is practically nonexistent I would imagine), all negligent discharges can be prevented.
If you all are gonna continue to argue down my position with common sense and logic then I'm just not gonna talk anymore!
This Sunday I expect a thread titled "So I finally got this right!".
Lets try a little test. Wear your gun IWB tuckable holster and time your draw. Then... Put your gun in your car trunk and time your retrieval. Whichever one is the fastest is what I'd go with.
Winner!
-
I used to carry in a IWB tuckable holster but I figured that in the event that I need the weapon it probably woun't be in the middle of church and if it's in a tuckable holster with my shirt tucked in it would take more time to reveal and draw so I just stopped and started leaving it in my car.
To be honest, you could live your life like the majority of Americans do: Unarmed Statistics say that you would be ok, generally. And I don't know what type of church you go to, but something is better than nothing. I would even go as far to say that California style carry (empty firearm, loaded magazine in pocket or on weak side) is better than nothing.
-
And I don't take my gun in church with me; it stays in the trunk of my car while I'm inside and I re-arm as I'm leaving and headed home so please don't assume that since it's Sunday and I have a suit on and I'm armed that I'm in church catching the holy ghost with my gun on my side.
Then I would like to make the motion that you start going to church back home you Yankee Would you go to church without your wallet? Would you go to church without your car keys? Would you go to church without your cell phone? Would you go to church without your shoes? Would you go to church without your pocket knife? For me, a firearm concealed is just another tool or piece of gear. I look at it like this. For someone that always wears your seat belt, would you drive to church on Sunday morning without it on? Don't take this the wrong way. You have every right to do as you wish, I'm just letting you know that you don't have to explain things to us to we won't assume you are doing a bad thing.
Why is the Sport so great? I will just give you a quick run down of the Sport and why it is such a great gun. 1. The barrel is a 5R rifled barrel. 5R barrels are known for their accuracy regardless of caliber. For whatever reason they just shoot and shoot well. It also increases the velocity by virtue of how the rifling is laid out. 2. The barrel is Melonite treated. Melonite treatments are far better than any chrome lining as far as hardness and durability. It also offers an exception amount of corrosion resistance. It is more than just a surface coating like chrome, it actually treats the metal and goes subsurface. 3. The bolt is properly heat treated. This is very important for the long term durability of the firearm. It ensures the headspace will remain in spec longer than those bolts that are not heat treated properly. Poorly heat treated bolts will either wear prematurely or break from being too brittle. 4. It has a barrel twist rate of 8 This twist rate allows you to fire the heaviest bullets that can be fed from a magazine, up to 80 grains. And because it isn't a 7 twist (like most others out there) you can also fire the lightweight varmint style bullets without fear of the jackets seperating. 5. It comes ready to fire. It comes with a Magpul rear sight while most competitors, even those 100's of dollars more expensive, do not. The sights have been proven for several years now both by those in harms way as well as the weekend shooter. It also includes a Magpul magazine which has also been proven for seveal years now. 6. It is built to the same specs as all other AR's This means you can upgrade and swap parts to build a gun that suits your wants or needs. And because it is an AR most of the work can be done by the owner and if it is a milspec part it WILL fit. 7. The price In reality if any other maker were to offer the same features as the Sport has they would be asking 100's of dollars more. The 5R barrel and Melonite treatment were once only offered on high end guns. And included in the price is a warranty that is among the best in the industry. You cannot go wrong with the M&P Sport and they are hard to find because they are such a great gun. Dolomite
Interesting. I never quite looked into the S&W's when purchasing an AR. Obviously the S&W has a few things that more expensive rifles do not, but how would you compare them to a Colt 6920, a rifle that I thought was considered the gold standard for $1000 range AR's.

Ex Felon Arrested After Shooting Intruders
GlockSpock replied to xRUSTYx's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Once you have completed your sentence you should no longer have it affect your rights. The only exception to this is if the felony was violent in nature. There are so many laws now that are felonies that should not be. I say reserve the harshest of penalties for those who have a record of being violent, not those who were caught smoking a bit of pot. Dolomite
Yes. For example ,when I was in high school a few idiots went around bashing mailboxes. Now, I remember once when my father and I had to fix our mailbox because someone had backed their vehicle into our mailbox (didn't know if it was purposeful or an accident). Mailbox bashing isn't a laughable thing. But just because someone did something in high school does not mean they do not have the right years done the road to protect their family as well as themselves just because they did something stupid. But....it sounds so great when a politician says "I'm keeping guns out of the hands of criminals!" doesn't it? Since I've never had reason to I've never researched how easy it is to get your rights "restored" or whatever it is called. In an example such as is being discussed, is it easy for everyday citizens without a lot of money to get their rights restored if it can be shown that they are living lives as a law abiding citizen?

-
In a more serious manner, I remember a time ago at a Christmas get together amongst friends, my wife (just an acquaintance at the time) was talking to someone else and made mention that "I will never hold a gun". She pretty much thought they were evil, mostly because that was they way she had been taught. Fast forward until a few years ago when we started dating and I introduced them to her and also gave her some logical thoughts, she became open to them. When I told her I was getting my permit at first she was like "You mean you want to carry all the time? Sometimes I can understand but all the time? Even like if we are just going out to get something to eat or something?". Since then there have been a few times that she has made mention to her friends about how safe she feels with me and is glad that I take the responsibility of carrying a firearm. Remember, it's a firearm, not a gun. Guns are bad, firearms are good! My vote is to carry, but keep it in the pants

I couldn't believe what I was seeing... PG-13 warning!
GlockSpock replied to a topic in General Chat
Now that you said that, I am reminded that my wife was driving a commuter van full of employees home from Chattanooga one day when a guy pulled up beside them having a good old time. She slowed down and so did he, so she literally stopped traffic in I-24 in an effort to get his tag number. After some evasive maneuvers she couldn't match in a 15 passenger van full of people, he got away. Pretty impressive that he could drive that well one-handed.
Benton, With posts like this in topics like this, I think I might just have to start staying north of you from now on...
"Unemployment" as defined by the number crunchers is down. That is because unemployment is dictated by people actively seeking jobs, if they stop looking they aren't calculated in. People without jobs whether getting benefits, seeking, or not seeking - are at an all time high.
And in that case the only way to get rid of the people not actively seeking jobs is
