  1. I'd trade only because I've own 2 Mil-spec 1911's Charles Daly 1911, and a Springfield Armory MilSpec 1911. Both had bad extractors, that pretty much turned me off of them. The Daly was used, the Springfield was NEW. I now own Revolvers, or Glock, and Sigs if I could afford one.
  2. It can't hurt as long as the others aren't crazy. Some of these survival people are borderline paranoid in my opinion. Just be cautious.....
  3. PDO are Great people. I've known them for a while know. We've bought 3-4 guns from them now. An NAA Mini, a 30-30, a Browning, and an AK. When I buy my next Glock (G19) it will be from them.

    DB380

Well, I don't want it. If I were to buy a .380, it would be for the small size. Not sure why they left all that "plastic" on the back strap area. I can't say I blame them on copying the "Glock" pattern. As we know the Glock design is proven. So they didn't have to do alot of R&D. All they have to do is produce and sell.
  5. That is about right for Titanium...... The plain Ultra-Lite is in the $400 range. The Ti Series goes up another $100 And for that price I'd look else where. The only decently priced Taurus is the Standard 85 series. All the other 85 series are over priced in my opinion. I had the Regular 85 UL, the barrel looked to be an insert. The finish in the grooves was a bit lacking. You could see machine marks, and after about 50 Lead wadcutters the lead build up was very apparent down the bore. They are decent guns, but I don't think they are worth much more than $325.00 in my opinion.
  6. It depends on what bore diameter Ruger is using? From my research, Some people have a .308 bore while others have a .311. So it's up to you to figure it out. I'd hope for .311 since most of the "cheaper" stuff is over seas manufactured (aka: .311) if it is .308 dia. then Winchester is about the only one I've found that works well. And it is about $14.99 for 20 at Walmart All of the above is concerning accuracy, if you just want one to shoot and are not too concerned about accuracy (and honestly the 7.62x39 is NOT known for have very good accuracy) then get one and blast away. But you can get a good SKS or even AK for LESS than a Mini-30. Just being honest here (and YES I do have a Mini-30) I'd buy an SKS or AK, and put the money you saved in to ammo. If your grandson is like me, he'll have more fun shooting than worrying about what make the rifle is....
  7. I'd go .223. but you'll have to take into account that Ruger doesn't say it is "OK" for 5.56. Ruger says it is chamber for .223, In my research most people say the 5.56 functions fine and many rounds of it have been fired with no issues. As for the Mini-30, I don't see the need for one. Depending on bullet/Ammo used it could be .311 or .308 dia. bullets. Also not all "Non-Corrosive" is non-Corrosive. The Chinese 7.62 marked "Non-Corrosive" is primed with corrosive primers. If I recall correctly it was the Blue colored box that the problem. Also most surplus Russian/Bulgarian ammo is corrosive even if it is marked NonCorrosive. (Wolf is fine, I shoot it ALOT it is not corrosive and not Surplus) I think the Mini-14 has WAY more advantages than the 7.62. If you want a 7.62 get an AK or SKS (preferably chrome lined) If you want a .223 get a Ruger. If you want 5.56 get an AR bases platform.
  8. I heard the 452 was no longer going to be in production after mid 2010. But that is just hear say.... I really want one, I've shot one when I was down in Az...... And as was said. they don't exists in East Tn.
  9. I once took the bolt down on my M77/22 Hornet and let me tell you.... Unless I have to, I'll not do that again. Taking it down is easy, but once you got to putting it back in it has to be cocked again to align the bolt sections up right. It was a monster to get back cocked with my bare hands... I have a Ruger M77 in .223 with a heavy barrel, but I've not looked at the bolt too close. It's a safe queen. All I can tell you is if it is like the 77/22 Hornet (center fire) it is not much fun. Here is the owners manual for the M77/II series, It tells you how to take the firing pin assembly out. But then tells you it is not intended to come apart. As it may fly apart if taken down....Hummm... http://www.ruger-firearms.com/products/_manuals/m77MarkII.pdf I say leave well enough alone, It's no fun hunting pieces of a gun all over the house ( I know )
  10. +1 on that..... I'd bury it or something.... I'd hate to see some "good" game get a hold of that stuff....
  11. Very Nice. I miss shooting skeet....No time any more.

    G33

I have one, And I can shoot it just as accurate as my G19. The G19 and the G33 are the most accurate Glocks I own currently. I've owned many other Glocks, but none have matched the accuracy of my G33 or G19. The only draw back is the price of .357sig and some times it is hard to find. Ammo availability and price lead me to a G27. Honestly, I have a chronograph but have not ran any .357 Sig over it YET... But I'm not sure that the velocity will be much higher than 9mm +P+ out of that short of a barrel?..... I got the g33 because I always wanted a .357sig. I own it, but I'm not sure it is the "BEST" choice for personal defence as it was claimed when it first came out..... To work properly at 1,300fps you NEED bonded bullets, and that COST MORE to shoot.
  13. To be honest, I'm not going to be buying any more Ruger Autos for a while. My last P95, I bought NEW dropped the mag after every 2-3 shots. And after fixing it. I realized it was a flawed design in my opinion. I've also seen one SR9 with part of the barrel lug chipped off. As for their Revolver......I LOVE them. I've had 3, and still have a Security Six (.357Mag) built in the earlier 80's And between my Father and I have 1,750 rounds through it EASY. To answer you question, I think $375 is a FAIR deal.
  14. I went, I saw, and I left..... I did manage to pull off one trade. There were not as many dealers at this one. There were deals for buyers, but if you are going to sell be ready to take it back home or loose money. If gun shows are a sign of the economy, I say we are in pretty bad shape.
  15. Welcome on in buddy. But be warned, hang on for the rife.....hahaa

    .17 hmr advice

I've had a 93 in 17HMR, and 17vs Stainless (erlier model of 917) The Savage had a "slightly" better trigger. And both shot the same as far as accuracy at 40 yards. My best shot was on a Starling at 110 yards on a farm in Grainger county. With the Savage... (Yes, starling are open year round in Tn) I got rid of all my .17 cals, and went .22 mag. I say get the one that fits and feels the best. Because the performance is just about equal.
  17. I'll be there around 9:00am. Tomorrow/Sat. Still deciding on selling my Glock G22 and PT111 or not? If anyone that is going is interested in them, that might help me make up my mind....hahaaa
  18. I have a CRKT that I could never get sharp. Then I finally got it RAZOR sharp buy adding a micro bevel. A micro bevel is where you first sharpen the knife to as sharp as you can get it. Then change the angle you are sharpening at by about 3-5 more degrees. this forms a small more "blunt" but still very sharp edge. It also helps in edge stability. It puts more metal behind the edge. I know you would think it would makes it duller, and in a very small way it does. But CRKT likes to use soft steel, and I never had any edge luck unless it was Micro Beveled. Do you happen to know the grind on the knife? Chisel, Flat, Scandi, Hollow?
  19. Put the nipple back in (to stop it from leaking) Then pour the barrel full of cleaner (your choice) I use kroil, or a good penetrating oil. Next thing to do is get a bullet puller. Most muzzle loader cleaning kit have them. The Thompson Center ones do. Then you have to put ALOT of manual work into trying to remove all the rust. You'll need to get the barrel as smooth and free from rust as you can. Depending on the severity of the rust, it might have pitted the barrel pretty bad. And I say you will likely have SOME pitting, but as long as it is not too severe you can still get decent accuracy. It all comes down to how much time you are willing to put in to it. If you see the bore is pitted very bad. I'd try to find a good use one that has been taken care of properly.
  20. Is your thumb any where on or near the Slide catch? I haven't shot an SW99 series, but I do know that some time under recoil your thumb might press up on the slide release and cause the slide to remain open. Or, maybe the slide catch spring that keeps the catch down is weak or broken. And it is flying up under recoil. If your husband is not letting the pistol recoil up as much as you that may cause the problem when you are shooting it. Other than that, I really don't know. I have no experience with that particular pistol.
  21. So uhhh, yeah. I'm here for the free beer. ?
  22. I have a PT111 and they are ok.... But I'd prefer the standard 3-dot sights. I like to stick with what I know.
  23. I've got a SW9VE.....Trigger is heavy.....REAL heavy. But it is accurate and has shot every thing I've thrown at it. Since I now own one, I can't say I'd buy another. The trigger is just way too bad. Most DA revolvers have lighter, crisper pulls. I've officially made it my loaner gun to people that want to go to the range or shoot with me. Again, it is a reliable and accurate pistol. But takes awhile to get used to the trigger.
  24. Honestly...... It is only good at one thing. Slinging lead in multiple directions. On the one I shot. It didn't matter if it was .45LC, or 410 (00 Buck) the groups were the same. In my experience with the one Judge (2-1/2" Model) I shot. It was by no means a target gun, or an enjoyable plinker. The accuracy for me (and 2 other people) was little to be excited about on paper. I'd own one, but only for close quarters self defence (Home, Car, ect...)
