  1. Has anyone seen this? BATF Notice Bans Private Gun Sales In Texas
  2. You haven't achieved a minimum of 10k of reloaded rounds for your primary weapon... AND have nowhere to store your loaded ammo cans... AND your wife is complaining about never seeing you... AND you're getting carpal-dillon syndrome. Or so I have heard.
  3. I read/heard somewhere that the Senate version has a little provision tucked inside- future changes to this bill/law will require 67 votes instead of the typical 60. I can only assume that after they gain control of 1/6th of our economy, they will not let it go. This is a lose/lose for the American people. Next on the agenda- Cap&Trade and Illegal Immigration (aka amnesty).
  4. I kept my bench on the small side. Its approx 2'x4' working area, with a height of 36.5 inches. The top is 3/4" plywood. When I first built it, it wobbled alot, so I added the side braces. Problem solved. I typically stand when I reload or use my bar stool. I try to keep everything on shelves nearby or stored under the bench. I plan to add a shelf below my bench to get my cans off the floor. Also, I have 3 boys that love to get into everything, so the door stays locked. Here's my setup...
  5. One word- Absolutely! Once I got used to the bang, I realized there was no kick significant. As any reloader will admit, testing your first few rounds can be nerve-racking. Also, trying to zero and test round recipes is not the best combination. In any event, I look forward to the results of shooting 300, 500, and beyond. I hope to be smacking 300yd targets later this week.
  6. I finally got everything together with this project, with these parts: - Alexander Arms Overwatch Upper with 24" barrel - Alexander Arms muzzle brake - Spikes lower w/ DPMS LPK installed (awaiting upgrade trigger) - Magpul MIAD grip with bolt & firing pin holder insert - Magpul PRS stock - Magpul mono-pod (I love this option!) - BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle with Mod 3 Latch (the large latch) - La Rue LT-104 scope mount - Leupold Mark4 4.5-14x50mm w/ illuminated reticle - Paint job from Picaso Joe @ Hero Gear. The lighting sucks in my basement With the build done, I had to create my rounds. I went with the Berger 130grain VLDs (target), paired with hodgdon powder, and CCI small rifle magnum primers. I tested three batches: 28.0, 28.5, and 29.0 grains of powder. There was no obvious difference in the 28.5 & 29.0 rounds. I had some typical hurdels in my testing and zeroing. First I only had a limited number of rounds and then my scope was loose. After the first 3 rounds, I wasn't hitting the target at 100 years. I back the target up to the 50yd line and saw that I was hitting high and right. I corrected my sight and shot again. I was now hitting center mast. I moved it back to 100 yards and shot again. These were my last 3 rounds( left target). Well, for only having 18 rounds total. I am very happy, so far. The muzzle break almost eliminates ANY recoil. Once you get past the initial blast of the trigger pull, this is an amazing weapon. This is going to be a tack driver. I'm brewing up the next batch of rounds to finish the zeroing. More to follow... And, yes, Righterwinger, you will get to shoot this soon.
  7. And then Joe awoke from his dream... (homo!) If I had some actual woods behind my house, I probably would have lost that thing when I set it down.
  8. The Reloaders Bench had a nice supply of CCI #41's and CCI 500 (sm pistol) when I was there today.
  9. The lighting outside is MUCH better than my basement.
  10. I don't think he understood your "broke" reference. You can shoot it anytime, after I get it sighted in. Members of my immediate made me laugh last night when they asked, "is that real?" I guess the camo paint makes it look like a toy to them. The more I stare, the more I like this rifle. I think I need a few more. Magiccarpetrides- I just got it all together so I have no idea how it shoots or if the brake works.
  11. nah, just the ambiance of my basement lighting.
  12. I finally got my AR project rifle in 6.5mm done. It's no longer black, but it's just as evil. Here's a list of final parts: - Alexander Arms Overwatch Upper with 24" barrel - Alexander Arms muzzle brake - Spikes lower w/ DPMS LPK installed (awaiting upgrade trigger) - Magpul MIAD grip with bolt & firing pin holder insert - Magpul PRS stock - Magpul mono-pod - BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle with Mod 3 Latch (the large latch) - La Rue LT-104 scope mount - Leupold Mark4 4.5-14x50mm w/ illuminated reticle - Last but not least, it got a face life from Picaso Joe @ Hero Gear.
  13. Interesting article from the UK: Climategate: Barack Obama's rule by EPA decree is a coup d'etat against Congress, made in Britain – Telegraph Blogs Climategate: Barack Obama's rule by EPA decree is a coup d'etat against Congress, made in Britain By Gerald Warner World Last updated: December 8th, 2009 33 Comments Comment on this article Who needs tanks on the lawn when you have the Environmental Protection Agency? Barack Obama’s use of the EPA to pressurise the Senate to pass his climate change Nuremberg Decrees shows his dictatorial mentality. He wants to override Congress, which is hostile to his climate gobbledegook because it is representative of the American electorate, and sideline the nation’s elected Senators by ruling by decree, courtesy of the EPA. This is a coup d’état. And what is the justification for this undemocratic action? The allegedly imminent threat from “Anthropogenic Global Warmingâ€. There is always a supposed threat, when tyrants take the stage. The President of the United States has just reduced his moral authority to the level of any Third World dictator heading a “Government of National Emergencyâ€. Fortunately, the world’s leading democracy, which he is trying to subvert, has guarantees of liberty so deeply embedded in its Constitution that US citizens are well placed to fight back. In the first place, regulation can be challenged in a way that laws cannot. So the EPA’s proposed ruling on so-called “Greenhouse Gases†can be opposed extensively with litigation, to the point that the ruling might not yet be in force when Obama demits office. In the second place, the EPA is funded by Congress. So, if the Agency is being used to bypass or neuter Congress, why should legislators not play hardball and retaliate by cutting off its funding? The EPA may look formidable, but its situation is rather as if Rommel were buying the fuel for his tanks from the Allies. But what is of compelling interest on this side of the pond is the way in which the bullets to shoot down American democracy were made in Britain. The trail is not hard to follow. When the EPA published its “Endangerment Finding†on greenhouse gases and proposed rule, back in April, almost every paragraph of the text (Federal Register, April 24, 2009, pp 18886-18910) cited as authority the IPCC’s 2007 Report, which the Agency acknowledges it “relies on most heavilyâ€. And whence came the main input on climate change to that report? Yes, that’s right! You’ve got it: from Phil Jones, Michael Mann and the rest of the lads at the CRU, East Anglia. From the innovative, creative “scientists†who wanted to “beat the crap†out of a climate change sceptic; who “just completed Mike’s Nature trickâ€; who “can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’tâ€; who deleted e-mails in the interests of science; who tried to prevent publication of dissenters’ views; who coined the historic phrase “hide the declineâ€. Those jokers are the main authority for the extravagant claims in the IPCC report and, by extension, for the EPA’s “Endangerment Findingâ€. That is the authority that is being invoked to overturn the principles of 1776 in the United States. The Protocols of the Elders of Norwich are the justification for EPA tyranny. It is with that weighty evidence at his back that Barack Obama is going to Copenhagen to sell out American taxpayers to Third World subsidy junkies, profiteering “green†corporations and the ever entrepreneurial Al Gore. This is the steal of the millennium: forget the Great Train Robbery and the Brinks Mat caper – these hoodlums are targeting $45 trillion. Obama hates America and, increasingly, that sentiment is being reciprocated. This is a socialist, World Government putsch. Have the American people the resolution to resist it? We shall soon know.
  14. I voted "other". I think Obama has a pretty good chance after his performance in securing the Nobel Peace Prize.
  15. Why sure thing officer... here's my Super-Soaker and Red Ryder BB assault rifle.
  16. That looks like the grill I am looking to buy. Is this a Char Griller? Char Griller - Grills and Smokers
  17. I opted for this bug-out bag in OD green. Eberlestock "Gunslinger" Backpack NSN 8465-01-548-9564 NEW UNICAM Packs!
  18. This is just one part of the problem I see with Congress. They need to include a termination of benefits amendment with this. No longer should politicians receive lifetime salaries and benefits at our expense. They are public servants, let's start treating them as such.
  19. Man, where's the "can-do" attitude? We will fight to prevent this one world crap and if it happens without our consent, we continue to fight until it is no more.
  20. Whats even more absurd, soldiers over here in Afghanistan cannot have a magazine in their weapon while on base. I suspect it's probably due to the French and Candian troops being co-located on this base.
  21. I can call home from Afghanistan for .02/minute. Not a bad deal at all. Only a minor sound delay.
  22. As I was reading this thread I kept thinking one thing: Don't scratch the paint, don't scratch the paint, don't scratch the paint.... It only took 61 posts before someone touched on my main concern. Call me silly, I guess.
  23. Another perspective... http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/10/27/Obama-Declares-Swine-Flu-Emergency.aspx
  24. Somebody takes some pictures or even a video. I would love to see this event.
  25. If I give you a 10 digit grid, can you send me a slice or 2? Damn, now thats an American dish I could eat right now, regardless of the side-effects. Screw the crap they pass off in the chow-hall over here. Punisher- very nice with the diet coke addition. That makes it healthy.
