1. I don't know.         :D   Lp
2. And now ya'll know why we need to vote those TN lawmakers out of office.    I saw this get watered down and passed and everyone said, "Yea! We made progress". The only progress we will make is when we vote out of office those opposed to our Constitutional Rights in favor of private business rights out of office. If you don't think the big businesses didn't lobby  for the watered down version why vote?   Unions suck the life out of people in the name of moderating of Big Businesses. Big Business sucks the life out of people for shareholders. Is there really any difference?   How many of you work for Big Business and watch your salaries stall, your benefits decrease, your fellow employees get laid off with their jobs being taken offshore.  All because come hell or high water these Businesses continue to promise share holders 7-8% annual profits even though their sector growth rates tanked and expect to run 1-2% annually for the next 10 years. The first things to go are benefits, salary, then people.    On a side note, isn't it amazing that 97% of all federal government workers don't want the new health care package? Amazing.   Lp
3. Today the morning Memphis News had a breaking story about a 5 year old who brought a pistol to school in his backpack that went off.  No one was hurt. Police are holding the kid for questioning....   Hmmm, "Tommy, where do you live?"..."i dunno". "where'd you get this gun?" "i dunno".   "well, what do you know"...."I dunno".   Hmmmm, "Who' are your parents?"... "Mommy and Daddy".   A five year old for god's sake! Parents should be held responsible for letting a 5 year old get at a pistol.   Lp
4. I'm in Bartlett which is a 'burb of Memphis. You might call it the next Detroit since the Memphis political machine is rife with monetary waste.  We don't seem to have the problems you are experiencing because no one wants to move to Memphis. I think we do have foreign Company's here   but only to use it as a distribution center for their products as FedEx's main hub is here.   IMHO Memphis is being destroyed from within, not foreigners.
5. It may or may not be unsafe but remember that Varget is Hodgdon's product so wouldn't it make sense to use their min-max load data for a given bullet?   There is a difference between old reloading books and new ones. IMHO the lawyers got involved and minimized the max loads in case some dude got stupid and blew up his gun.   I've been loading Varget in my .308 for years and love the stuff. One thing nice about most rifle powders is you can't double load a case as it will being spill out of the neck and all over the place.    I normally shoot out to 600 yds with an occasional 1K shoot in my 40X. My load is 43.1gr behind a 175gr Berger HPBT Match Target bullet. They all go thru 1 hole at 100 and the rifle will shoot 16X 200 at 600 yds.    I have lotsa space for more powder in my case but that does what? Burn out the barrel faster? Yep! Have lousy groups? Probably.     If you're just starting out make a ladder starting at the lowest powder charge and work your way to max.One bullet of each going up 3grs. Shoot it at 200 yds for better results. You will need someone to pull targets so you can mark each hole per charge. Just number them 1-14 or whatever. Take the middle bullet of the tightest group. That will then give you a powder charge to work with Reload up and down a grain or two for best group and then all you have to do is adjust your seating depth for tightest group.   The only rifle I ever shoot that was compressed was my AR-15 and when I got there I punched holes in the primer due to the high pressure. I backed that off right away as it will eat the bolt up in short order.   Hope this helps. Lp
6. Domestic shipping will remain flat until 2032. Average growth rate is supposed to be on the nature of 1% annually while this year and the next should be at .8%. Suggest you try and buy locally.   Lp
7. Perhaps if our Govt would quit selling our oil to foreign countries.......
8. I'd suggest you give the CMP a call and ask them. We shot up a lot of Greek ammo in local matches with no issues but I don't remember any moly coated reloads in the boxes (our Greek came in 20 rd boxes). I'd also make sure the rifle was completed cleaned after shooting as some of that Greek might use older caustic primers which is harsh on the metal. If you shoot them then take a look down the brass and  see if they're boxer or berdan primed.   Lp

10. Beautiful! Give us a range report when you shoot it!   Lp
11. Welcome to TN   We do that all the time on our action pistol range just to the NE of Memphis. I'm not really sure how far you are from W TN   Opps, sorry Mongo.  I see you're from the Nashville area. so prob too far of a drive.    Lp
12. IMHO the Rock Chucker is a good rifle reloading press and it gives the new reloader a chance to learn the ins and outs of it.    Lp
13. They had used USGI 30 rd mags for a mere $129. What a deal!   I took my tax return and was gonna by 1 but I couldn't come up with their shipping price so I had to pass.  :)   They run ads on the Wednesday night shooting programs. They can afford to at their prices.   Lp
14. Why do you think I didn't put the Grizzly Bear joins the Navy article up....        Rats, Tanker I didn't realize you were doing it too! LOL...Sorry
15. All volunteer army = voluteered to get shot at = not covered.   This is gonna go over big and I just  had a nephew go into the Army.   I hope this isnt true.   http://www.duffelblog.com/2013/05/combat-deaths-now-considered-acts-of-allah-no-longer-covered-by-life-insurance/?utm_source=The+Duffel+Blog+Email+Newsletter&utm_campaign=e4d2e53836-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_6128900c72-e4d2e53836-23621705     lp
16. Thanks,   I've already been shooting Mid-range F-Class for years 300, 500 and 600 yds.along with BR, Silhouette (pistol and rifle) out to 200 yds. The only rack grade rifles I use anymore are an old Springfield '03 and a Garand and other than shooting the Garand in the occasional match I shoot both of those mid-range at 600 yds.   I do spend a lot of time helping people out at no cost to them especially with safety related learning.   Lp
17. Thanks ya'll. Started playing with the scope mount and already made some trigger adjustments. Lp
18. No offense Celtic but paying $50 or $80 for a history lesson I learned in school 45 years ago is just another way to make money.   and...forefathers volunteered their services. It was not a money making proposition.   I disagree with the premise as just being another way to take ones money.   It is my opinion which has about as much value as the cost of these shoots.   Lp
19. Why would they do that? I thought they expect the Gov't to feed 'em.   You might have to look elsewhere for stock piles and those folks ight have sumtin t say about it. :)   Lp
20. I ran Varget through my L1A1 using 168 grn SIE HPBT, 42 grn powder because I had it. SInce it's not a pistol cartridge running through a 16 or 20 inch barrel you don't need to speed up the burn rate as it will all burn before it leaves the barrel.    IMR 4895 has been around since WWII. The standard AP load was 47 gr of IMR 4895 in a .30-06 running at 2700 fps. SInce Hodgdon bought out IMR and WIN brands they have introduced H4895 which I believe is their mix of the same stuff but if you look at the specs they seem to claim its a bit hotter. When I use IMR 4895 it's only in my Garand and use 46 gr with a max bullet size of 172 gr to protect the op rod. If you find IMR4895 on the shelves then right next to it will be H4895. You will have no problems metering the IMR,H or Varget in .308.    I reload everything I own on a Dillon 550B. I use the powder drop to load the case then pull it and dump it onto my electronic scale to confirm the drop. I then stick it back  into the case on the press and move to the next station.   Being a previous owner I have a little bit of knowledge with the FAL, for whatever that's worth.  1) it has adjustable gas flow so you can tune it to the cartridges and not much kick. 2) Most had pencil thin barrels meaning the first three rounds are fairly accurate. The rest spread out as the barrel heats up. 3) It's not a sniper rifle. At 300 yds. it will hit within 3 inches of center for the first few rounds. Then...read the line above. 4) You can stick a scope on it by removing the dust cover and sticking on a cover with a rail on it. Beware, there are a lot of  cheapy rails out there. Stay away from the ones that only have 3 locking screws per side. More is better here. Imho a scope is kind of a waste of  time on an FAL unless yer getting old like me and need to actually see the target clearly. 5) Remember, it's a battle rifle. The standard bullet was a 147 gr FMJ. If you're loading it to shoot and plink then it's perfect for loading for volume.   The gas system is akin to AK's and it was the M-14's competitor when the USA was looking for a new battle rifle. The M-14 won. It's heavier but   a heck of a lot more accurate than a FAL. If any noticed the new Ar-15 (now old) gas/piston systems. Guess what. They've already been around for 50 years. It does work though and well.    I qualified on our range out to 300 yds with one but had to wait a few minutes between shots to let the barrel cool a little. Throwing lead at 600 yds is a waste of ammo and your time reloading. I use a 40x .308 with Berger 175 gr HPBT Target  bullets behind 43.1 gr Varget to do that.   IMHO they are very cool rifles and were used by 92 countries or sumtin like that.  They come up into your shoulder nice and go bang. I like em but I prefer accuracy over how much lead i can throw in "that" general direction.   Yes, I talk too much...   Hope this helps. Lp
21. Ha! I noted you got out in '71...that's when I went in.   One other thing about your .45. The trigger is supposedly not replaceable.   I'm sending you an IM with a link to go read.   Lp
22. Never been fond of the fee for this organization.   Lp
23. Sounds like the sear has been bubba'd. Do youself a favor and go down to the local gunshop and buy a replacement hammer and sear.   Stick them in the gun and try it again. Only 2 rounds per mag. See if it repeats. It shouldn't. Here's how you take it apart...    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIIT0Dv2JVA   and put it back together.,...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P4XJTKzKEU   Hope this helps ya.   Lp
