1. While I agree all of my guns are "rare". They belong to me and only me. No one else. I sometimes allow others to shoot them but they are mine. What makes them so rare is they are mine and not yours.    Once you get your gun it will be rare as no one else owns it. There may be many like it but it is yours, not theirs.     :D   Lp
2. Lessee...trap, skeet, wobble wheel, 5 stand, sporting clays, action pistol (3 gun), SASS (Cowboy), 7 and 15 yrd .22 rifle and all cal pistol range. 50 yd range, 2 100 yard ranges, a 200-300 yd range, a 200-300-400-500-600 yd range, archery range, axe/knife tossin range. Lastly an Indoor pellet gun range, although I think max power is like 600 fps. Berms were made from digging holes which in turn became fishing holes up to 60 ft deep. Machine gun range behind the 600 yd range. Silenced smoke poles ok. Silhouette from 45 yds to 300 yds.    Qualifications (all quals are for safety) for 200-300 yds to make sure you understand come ups. Then shoot that for a few weeks and re-qual for 600 yd (HP) again learning about  holding at the distances. In other words learning what your rifle does at those distances.  More quals: action pistol, SASS guys take care of their own on their range. Machine gun.    No Ma Duce, 50's to keep our berms intact.   Remember the quals are all about safety.   Matches: IPSC, IDPA, .22 BR 50yds,  .22 Silhouette, .22 prone 50/100yds. Bullseye, Blackpowder silhouette, Pistol Silhouette. Actually the list goes on and on. There's something for everyone at MSSA.   Brand new beautiful cub hose. No porta-potties but nice rest rooms on the main pistol/100 yd firing lines.   The current price is $240 a year. That's $20 a month.    The bite: $400 one time initiation fee.    Hope this gives ya'll a feel for our club. Lp   Im from Bartlett if you'd like to come shoot.
3. I still enjoy using SxS's for shooting skeet and hunting. I also have one I built from a beater for some Cowboy action shooting. One thing I've found out about all of my SxS's is the left barrel seems to kick more than the right. All of my shotguns are 12 ga.   Lp
4. His thumb locked the slide open in recoil. Lp
5. Just a fyi...   A friend owns a shop. He and his employees carry on premises as he is an FLL.  Last Monday a trio in hoods, masks and the leader with a gun tried to rob the place. The employee working noticed something fishy outside the glass door and had his hand on his holstered pistol. In they came, pistol waving everywhere. He grabbed plastic and got a round off before his gun jammed open. Shoot went high, and wide left into the wall. Luckily for him the dudes where climbing all over themselves running out the door.   There are three ways of looking at it. 1) No one got hurt. 2) Those young kids learned a lesson that didn't cost them their lives.  3) The guy didn't kill a kid but needs to learn how to shoot.   Lastly, I said he grabbed plastic because it was a Glock.  That's the second time I've had a friend with a Glock that locked open on firing and a very good reason I've never owned nor will own a Glock.   The other friend bought himself a model 29 or 39, I can't remember which one but it;s a compact Glock in  .45 acp. He spent $250 to have the slide milled to accept this itty bitty red dot sight which he also paid big bucks for. He had a trigger job done to it. Out at the range he'd shoot and it'd lock open after a few shots. He sent it back to Glock. They, of course, took out the trigger job and replaced with with their crap again and said, all better. Back for a trigger job. bang, lock, bang, lock. etc. Out comes the trigger job and back to Glock who sends it back, all fine. That is when I ran into him out  at the range. We always shoot together so he asked me to shoot the gun. I do. Bang, bang, bang...lefty, righty, two-handed. bang, bang, bang! In my mind it shoots. Ugly but shoots. He takes it back and bang, locks open. He was calling it a jam. I watched and couldn't see anything he was doing wrong while standing on his right side, He was at his wits end and was saying howhe likes how it feels and carries and really does't want to get rid of it. I said, let me shoot it again and did. Bang, bang...he said wait! Why was my thumb low on the left side? I told him that's how I hold the  pistol. To make a long story a lil bit shorter his thumb was high up just under the slide lock and was pushing up in recoil, locking the pistol open. He lowered his thumb on the pistol and had no further issues.   However, there is one issue....   In an emergency we revert to how we practice. Just like the guy at the shop. 2 Glocks, 2 lock ups. I checked and there may be more instances, Another buddy's wife bought one and had jams/stovepipes which turned out to be limp wristing.  She finally worked her way out of that after a few thousand rounds.   I'll stick with my Colt .45acp. I've never limp wrested it and never will. I have not had it lock up through thousands of rounds. I keep it clean and oiled.   The point of this long winded post is what ever gun you have in your night stand or wherever, make sure that you can pick it up off a table or out of a drawer or bench at the range and shoot it with out malfunction. Every time. The best gun in the world won't help you if it goes "click" when you need it the most.   Lp
6. Have you in our prayers for a speedy return to home for your daughter.
7. One round.      Lp
8. Call the paw-paw and ask em. Lp
9. Im selling my loaded 1999 Toy Rav4 for $2200 after I get back home from Thanksgiving. New tires, new brakes, clean, non-smoking 2wd with 20k on the timing belt, water pump...Cheap, reliable transportation. It'll probably go to some high school student before Obamacare is up and running and the economy tanks completely.   Lp
10. A friend just gave me a 40 lb bag of American walnut's still in their husks. He provided hints on  breaking them open by driving over them with my truck. He also mentioned I should wear gloves  because the walnut oil will stain your hands. He said latex gloves won't cut it.   While still trying to figure out how I can dry them (?) another friend at work who was from Texas told me his parents used to gather them up and sell them to a local market. The folks buying them wanted them for their oil to die things with.   My question is what. Wood stain? Anyone ever use walnut oil right out of the husks as some sort of die?   Thanks Lp
11. We always have folks drop by to watch. Without watching matches how are you gonna know if it's something you'd like to do?   It's not just the match itself but the people you meet. you find out if the those matches are a match for you. Lp
12. I had the Chiappa M4 upper. It took about 150 rounds to break in. What I loved about it was I can swap out the uppers and still use the  same lower so it allows me to practice shooting using .22's while using the same exact trigger assembly. Perfect for AR competition practice at 1/4 the price.   Mine came with 2-30 round mags that are a little sloppy when stick fresh ammo in but they cycle well.    The big difference between the Chiappa and those AR .22 inserts is the twist rate. The Chiappa has the nominal 1 in 16 test while the bore and twist of a .223 is quite a bit different  so you will find the inserts aren't very accurate.    All in all a good value depending on your needs. Personally, I prefer accuracy over plinking guns like 10/22's. I've owned a few over there years going back to the early '70's. They're fun for shooting up coke cans but I'm getting too old for the tacticool add ons and gave my last one away years ago to a nephew.    Since I don't shoot AR comp anymore I got rid of the Chiappa along with the AR.   Hope this helps. Lp
13. Luke,   I believe you're right. We have let this discussion on, "Would this be a fun pop-gun to own" degenerate into a "would I trust my life on this fun shooter". My bad for input  to that effect. I will say while I wouldn't own one for personal defense I also wouldn't own one because I have this tendency to look at some cool gun for 6 months, agonize over it for a while then buy it. Once I get it and shoot it enough to kinda get it out of my system I end up asking myself, "ok, it's cool but now what do I do with it?"   I'm trying to get away from doing that and I'm really trying to get my retirement armory together so I don't have to spend money or sell guns to have my stable in good order.   However, collector mileage varies by person so if yer young, got money in yer pocket then whats wrong with getting something cool....?   Lp
14. I'm don't think I'd trust my life to a Kriss. I do like .45 ACP as a cartridge and I'm not so sure Mr. Browning didn't get it right the first time. Lots of moving parts in that Kriss.   Thompson sub guns don't kick or move around much either.    Small and light, yes. So, is a Colt .45 ACP pistol and I can stick a can on it just like the Kriss.   IMHO there isn't really going to be a new gun gun type come out until someone comes up with a new type of ammo.   Lp
15. You're right seeing how it's been around for over a 100 years and is still in use by the Marines and other branches of the US so it really  can't be any good. For those of you who watch the big bang theory the previous sentence is called sarcasm.    I'd suggest you run out an buy a .380, .40 or some other twiner cartridge that the bullet Company's came up with to give you yet another choice of gun to do the the .45 ACP already does.     There are also .357's, .41's and .41 mags, .44's and .44 mag's, .45 LC's, .454's, .460's, 500's in wheel guns and semi-auto's but then again most of those only carry 5-8 rounds. Not much there.   Lessee,  .32's and .38's could maybe get the job done along with 9mm's. How about 10mm's? Opps, with the 10 there's not much in the clip.     There was actually a reason the .45 ACP was invented. Go look it up. Isn't that what the net is for?   Hope this helps.   Lp
16. S&W Model 29,  8 3/8" barrel. Can be concealed and un-noticed but can reach out and touch some...err....thing. Doesn't really need a red dot or scope but you can get a shoulder holster to hold the gun and those accessories if you want one.  6 speed loaders can even be carried in your pockets.   p.s.-don't forget water.....   Lp   Now I forgot to mention. If it really hits and your life is in jeopardy, one shot and you may own that AR everyone's chatting about.
17. Memphis Zoo?   j/k   Lp
18. Not sure I'd call retiries diots. They might forget things due to old age but they're born in a time where they worked hard to earn what they got.   While I'm not retired I do look forward to the day I can.    As far as young folks of today. Unfortunately, they will work until they die if our Nation lets the politico's rule instead of serve. And that is in the youngun's hands to fix.   Ammo bozo's ain't all retired either....   Lp
19. There is a silver lining to all of this with the bullet bozo's.   The next time you see one, smile and say. "It sure will be nice when you're dead and buried and I can buy up your .22LR ammo from your  widow for 25c a box. Ya'll have a nice day now".  :)   Lp
20. A buddy has one that we shoot all the time. When he first got it he had all kinds of problems with ammo brand. He went back and forth with the Co. for a while about ammo. Last time I shot it it didn't have any issues so the issues must have been worked out or he is still using the same ammo that worked. And yes. it is silenced. Also, I'm getting old. LOL Lp
21. I have two open top Army Conversion 7.5 inch,1872's in .45 Schofield and one 1873 Cattleman 4.5 inch in .45 cap. I like them all.  I think you can wear out some of the parts but I haven't yet. All of my six guns are in .45 Long Colt or .45 Schofield.   If you're looking for tough the Ruger New Model Vaquero's are built like tanks. They are the same size as a Colt (in .45LC) but I'm not sure if that's true in .38's. A lot of older folks and gal's shoot the .38's in those Cowboy Action Matches. Less recoil and a lil cheaper to reload.    Hope this helps.   Lp
22. One minor thing about .410's...ammo is very expensive.    On other thing about the circuit judge. Keep yer forearm hand away from the front of cylinder. I don't know of any revolver  that doesn't throw some lead off the forcing cone from time to time (shield or no shield) and if it is for protection from zombies then you want  the lead making them smart, not you.   Lp
23. Try out a used Remington 1100 in 12GA for $250-350.  It is probably one of the lightest shooting semi's out there. Next, the Cowboys use Winchester Low Recoil #8 shot shells. I believe they're 7/8 ounce with the light powder charge.  That cuts the recoil way down.  Next buy her a shoulder pad. It's a round the body strap on she can put on under her shirt.    Try and all she will have left to deal with is the noisy bang!   Hope this helps. Lp
24. In my job, no shave = no fly and I plan on heading to Spokane, WA for Thanksgiving to visit with my 95 year old Dad.   Lp
