  1. Stones River Hunter Education Center https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/stones-river-hunter-education-center Some people love it, some people hate it. For the money charged, it's a very well resourced, and safe place to shoot. Worth a try since it's close by.
  2. A .22 M&P Compact is on my want to buy list based on what I've heard/read. I'd ask you to give me first dibs if you ever want to sell it, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. So many reasons to keep it around as long as it still fires. Great purchase.
  3. Haha, she was going to cost you money regardless. At least this way, the Bank of Dad is supporting the firearms industry in a small way.
  4. Nothing crazy. Some boxes of PMC Bronze 9mm for range time with my VP9, and 2x20rd boxes of 55gr Speer Gold Dot for my HD SBR ammo. Got it on sale at PSA.
  5. I kept looking for the other kind of pig on an AR, until I re-read the OP and saw "on the receiver." Bet she'd love the flaming pig on the end of the barrel, though!
  6. Panic buying questions aside, the prices for entry to mid level ARs are as low as we've seen them. Right now the popularity is helping keep prices competitive. They're pretty much hovering on the lower side of prices in modern times. So, if you're looking for a deal on that first AR, I'd say get one now because it's not likely to get better. If cash flow is an obstacle to getting one before election day, you can at least get a built or stripped lower. That way, you have the most important part from a legal standpoint. The rest can be finished as money becomes available.
  7. Yeah, at 1:40, as the officer was coming up to him, the rider said, "can you take it from me?" The officer taking it was more than likely going to happen anyway since I can't see an officer letting the biker be the one to hand it to him. Immediately after, the officer says "that's the only reason I'm going to take it, is because I see it," which leads me to believe it was his intent from the get go. But I'm not arguing the officer handled taking the gun away in a bad manner. The other "biker with a gun" video we had a while back shows how this officer got it right in regards to tactics and technique. Still, disarming a citizen "just because" isn't I would consider kosher with the intent of the 2nd Amendment. Unfortunately, with this issue, we're talking about an institutional mindset which takes some effort to change.
  8. I have an inherent problem with an officer disarming someone for their personal comfort when no other circumstances exist. Tell the guy not to make sudden moves- fine. Have your hand on your weapon, and the retention feature of your own holster undone- fine. Make your first action a request for him to produce his carry permit to verify if he's legally allowed to carry- fine. But citizens who are legally allowed to carry should be able to do so in the presence of law enforcement. That issue set aside, the situation was handled quite well by all involved. The interactive courtesy on the part of the officer was spot on and training worthy, IMO.
  9. For this type of election, I'd just send each one an email if you can find an address to send it to. They're probably not well known enough or have enough media attention to get any info on the subject. Hell, I doubt most of them even have real campaign websites or anything beyond a Facebook page. Just keep the email simple, asking about guns as it comes to local issues the town council will debate and vote on, like guns in parks and at public events the city puts on.
  10. Hear, hear! Enjoy your retirement from military life, and the challenge of what tomorrow brings.
  11. Aside from putting together an overall strategy to target criminal networks, and changing tactics on how some areas are patrolled by police...there really isn't anything they can do. State law isn't going to let the Metro Council make any drastic changes (not that they would work), and adding enough officers to move the needle would present a fiscal challenge the city can't really afford.
  12. There are special circumstances driving up the price, I'd imagine. Adelle is said to be taking a long break from touring after her current slate is over, and since she went five years without a tour, she's probably not bluffing. I thought about seeing her in Nashville, but I'm not one for huge mega type concerts like this one promises to be. I'd pay to see her in a smaller venue like the Ryman, or the Schermerhorn Symphony Center any day of the week though.
  13. Basically, the laser I linked looks like a modern'ish version of the old PAQ-4C. The site says it's good out to 400yds...not sure how far you're shooting with a .308 rifle, so be cognisant of that if you make a purchase. The real money for gun mounted night vision accessories comes in if you want the IR illumination light in addition to an IR laser. They're really nice to have for military situations, and if you're under anything obstructing natural light. But if your field of view is good, all you need is a laser for aiming during hunting, that model should fit the bill. Illumination from moonlight is your friend in those situations, and I'd say Texas is a good area to take advantage of it.
  14. Yeah, if muzzle sweeping while target scanning is something you need to avoid, behind the dot isn't feasible. Maybe if you could find a quick detach mount it could work, but this being such a speciality item, that's bound to be a challenge. This laser looks like a good fit for your needs while being about as friendly as it gets for this kind of kit. If you don't need an IR light, than it helps keep the cost down as seen here. Comparison shop a bit on the products, but this site gets good reviews from what I see. https://tnvc.com/shop/ldi-otal-class-1-ir-laser/ Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk just to give Oh Shoot something to be grumpy about.
  15. What kind of NVG/IR dot setup are you using? If you can troubleshoot that part to a point of satisfaction, then maybe you can save what is bound to be a hefty purchase.
  16. I've got a pair of Peltor's and Howard Leight's. Both work quite well for the money for what it seems you need them to do.
  17. I know there were other circumstances around this event, so I've refrained from jumping in. But one thing I do not want is for LEOs to automatically equate firearms with criminal behavior, and I think we're trending, or already at that point..at least in the inner cities. If the trajectory continues, it's going to become a problem felt by lawful gun owners as state legislatures continue to overrule local ordinances on carry for individuals and and in vehicles. Something to think about as we continue to work towards the fulfillment of the rights we're supposed to have under the 2nd Amendment. Unless it's shown that they were in a place where they weren't lawfully allowed to be, I don't care. I know that LEOs will use that determination to help guide their investigations, and I'm fine with that, but the answer to that question isn't evidence, or anything contributing to the event in question.
  18. Guess I'm finding a new insurance plan regardless of what happens after I graduate in December.
  19. I looked at the photo you posted in the beginning of the thread and didn't know what his ethnicity was. Really. It was inclusive as a lot of surveillance camera footage can be. You got it wrong too when you said he "looks like a young Arabic male." Turns out he was Turkish. As to the BOLO for Hispanic male...the media put out what law enforcement said. No conspiracy there. Will they talk about his ethnicity now that he's been caught? Guess we'll see. American could use the lesson on what the difference is between a Turkish Muslim, Arab Muslim, Kurdish Muslim, Persian Muslim. Everyone's mind went to Arab, but they're not interchangeable terms.
  20. I don't see it as speculation to report the description police got from witnesses. Can you look at that guy's pics and say that identifying him as Hispanic is some kind of conspiracy, and not an understandable mistake?
  21. While an M&P wouldn't be my 1st-5th choice for a 9mm striker fired pistol, I don't think the MAC testing is enough to make me say someone shouldn't carry one if they're comfortable with it, and put plenty of rounds through it at the range. The videos are quite entertaining to watch, though.
  22. Yeah, Turks don't always look like the classic Middle Eastern typeset. Very easy to see how he was mistaken for Hispanic in all the bedlam. Hell, even if they had a clear unstressed look at him, the same info might have come out. Now we get to see if it's a ISIS inspired attack, or just another mentally unstable kid who took it out on a crowd.
  23. Not sure how big a mag she had, but it's a good reminder that ammo expenditure and adrenaline have a correlation. Lucky for her the third intruder got out the way he went instead of doubling back to the front door.
  24. I don't see Arabic, or Hispanic to the point of identification from that photo...so maybe witnesses gave the Hispanic description? Easy enough to see, since both Arabs and Hispanics can widely vary in appearance, and even overlap depending on skin tone. 25. Unless the event is a 100% mechanical failure, they're the same thing in my mind.
