  1. It's pretty hard for "people" to discredit anonymous sources when they have full time jobs doing other things and have no access to the source.
  2. Fair enough, but also to be fair I know of these stories coming from federal employees themselves. My best friend works at the VA in Murfreesboro, and he's full of examples that he sees causing the stereotypes. This friend has a great work ethic, and loves doing whatever he can for vets, but he tells me of frequent conflicts that he causes with co-workers because by doing his job at the best of his ability it "makes them look bad." HHe talks of people who do not handle a fourth of the calls that he does continuing to be employed. To me, it's like the 10% of police officer that give all police officers a bad rap, except it's far greater than 10%.
  3. Thanks! I didn't have my daily dose of BS until now.
  4. My only modification to this would be TWO rounds in the chest. :)
  5. You got that right! If there's no escape they will be tenacious in their fight to protect the young.
  6. What father doesn't joke about guns and daughters, but he said, "I always talk about..." meaning that he thinks about it often and for a long time. Perhaps he meant it as a joke, but there's usually an element of truth in every joke, and in this case it's a common thought process. I think it's hypocrisy in this case.
  7. I can only speak as a former LEO, but I believe that it would take a completely passed law that has undergone challenge in the Supreme Court for me to obey a confiscation law. But I do recognize Dolomite's point. I knew plenty of officers who had no problem breaking the law in order to "win" against the bad guy because they "fight fire with fire." It's one of the reasons that I left law enforcement: I couldn't stand the corruption, and I'm not talking about just in my town.
  8. While I agree with the message I couldn't take more than 15 minutes of the delivery.
  9. This is a good example of why I give through the church. When I lived in Kansas City many years ago the local investigative reporter did an expose` on the bums that were well known in the city. They followed one guy to discover that he climbed into a relatively new Cadillac Seville and drove home to a pretty good house. When confronted the guy admitted to pulling down around $60k tax free every year.
  10. Dolomite: I don't dispute what you say above; I agree with it, and I was just commenting on the church's ability to help folks. Many people like to fuss about churches constantly asking for contributions, but they also don't consider that, for most churches, they have no income other than from contributions. When the economy sucks as it has for years the contributions are down as a result. Churches have OpEx just as we do at home or a business does, and those don't change. When they must slash the budget then all non-essential items go first. Unfortunately, helping out folks in financial need for necessities gets cut too. I am a deacon in my church, and I know for a fact that many churches are struggling just to keep their doors open right now. Normally, the deacon's benevolence fund gets a budgeted fund from the church, but this year we aren't, and must rely on special offerings to fund us. It stinks when you see someone that is in true need but cannot help them.
  11. "A major emphasis of the required safety training is that people facing deadly threats should announce they have a gun and retreat or take cover before trying to shoot, he said." So, the "monster" gets to know which teachers are armed so he/she can move on to the classroom that has an unarmed teacher in it? Oh, that's just brilliant!!!
  12. I'm not familiar with the breed, but I have had years of experience with Rottweilers. There is a group of monks in upstate New York who specifically breed and train Belgian Shepards, and they have a book about understanding and training large breed dogs which I read a long time ago. As I'm sure you understand, dogs are pack animals making it important to maintain alpha status particularly with a large dog. The dog is asserting and maintaining dominance in the pack order. You, as the alpha, need to let him know that he's the lowest member of the pack. Every little sign of aggression from the dog to any other family member should be met immediately with a response from you, and that response should be to roll him on his back and then growl at him him with teeth bared until he submits. Submitting is when the dog stops struggling and somewhat relaxes. That's a lot harder to do with a fully grown Rotty, but from the Google pictures of your breed it shouldn't be too hard. I just have to glare at my dog and it gets his attention. I do other things to maintain dominance as well such as never letting him win at a tugging game, or letting him walk in front of me on a leash. The shock collar isn't a good play IMHO. As Caster said, it gets a response, but is it the response that you want? What happens when you aren't there to shock him or show the collar?
  13. I think some may miss the point that government will just change the laws to suit them. This fiscal cliff crap is just for show. If they don't reach an agreement they'll just pass another law modifying the previous one to postpone or remove the consequences of the first law. The government isn't going to stop spending to suit us. They are money-hungry, power brokers who simply argue about how they steal our money, period!
  14. You would be wrong to assume that the churches aren't being hit by the economy now days, and that they are able to do much for anyone. My church is currently in a huge deficit and cannot give benevolence funds at all next year. The deacons have to rely on direct contributions next year.
  15. Maybe we should get bumper stickers made that read, "I'll give-up my right to an 'Assault Rifle' when you agree to give up your right to run your mouth, vote, assemble, be free from unreasonable searches, and worship or not worship!"
  16. I think that the only effect would come from a bunch of protestors setting up shop with loud speakers on their street like the wackos did to the Bank of America CEO awhile back.
  17. I got a new T-shirt to replace the one my wife shrunk with the dryer, (it was barely long enough to begin with. I gave my wife a Samsung Note II, a puppy, and new livingroom furniture. I got myself a S&W complete lower.
  18. What makes you or anyone think that they'd cower in fear from posting their info online that's obviously already available online? You think they should fear "law-abiding" citizens?
  19. Funny, the last two teachers that I've met have HCPs.
  20. I think that a teacher has the right to protect their self just as you and I do. Cops have no duty to protect, so why would we expect different from a cop in a school?
  21. Last week I turned around and left Outpost Armory because the line to get in the building extended for about 30 yards. No thanks; I'll wait.
  22. That's being unkind to dingleberries.
  23. Thanks ya'll, but after some looking around I decided to just buy one of Specailty Arms' complete S&W lowers that they'd just received. It had a really nice trigger on it, and the collapsing stock isn't going to kill me although I prefer either a fixed stock or one that adjusts for length and cheek height.
  24. Thanks, is that the shop at the corner of 96 Hwy and Nolensville Rd?
  25. I don't get that idea. The school resource officers I've seen don't impress me but with one exception for a massive dude who worked at Overton High School.
