The last round of storms damaged my 30+ year old 6 ft wooden back fence. Its gonna have to be replaced. Anybody know or can recommend a good fencing company that won't break the bank?

Bill Introduced to Take Guns, Ammo from IRS
Grayfox54 replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
IRS does have a LE section. I can't remember exactly what they're called, but they're IRS cops. These are the guys who actually go out and arrest tax cheats. Some of them don't come along quietly, thus these agents are armed. However, they are only a very small fraction of IRS employees. I know a guy who retired from this job. Yes, I remember when IRS was suddenly buying hundreds of guns and many thousands of rounds of ammo. They don't need them and they should be taken away. -
I happened to be over that way yesterday and stopped in. There was a good bit of empty space in the various cases. But they still have a lot of guns. Place was kinda dead. Only a couple of customers. Only three guys working, so I guess the other employees are already gone. Got to talking to one of the salesmen. He figures they will close at the end of June. Said they had to be out of the building by July 15. However, prices don't seem to have gone down any at all. I asked when the big closing sale would start and all he said was that he would make me a deal on anything I wanted. But didn't say how much of a deal.

I may be wrong but, Its my understanding that you may own a handgun at 18, however you can not legally buy one. Frankly, most private sellers at a gun show will be cautious about selling to a young person. I seriously doubt you will find one who will sell to someone under 21. If you want something for home defense, consider a shotgun which you can legally buy.

I grew up in a camping family. As an adult, I spent 12 years as a Boy Scout leader. I've been camping my whole life. Did it all in tents and was quite comfortable. You can buy a really nice tent and everything else you need a whole lot cheaper then a camper.

I've noticed that this is getting a lot of comments on several gun boards. What's the big deal? They all look the same anyway.

I went. Not bad. I got to talking to one of the vendors when he remarked that the crowd was small. I told him that there was almost no advertising for this show and he was shocked. Oh well. I don't like big crowds anyway.

One more time.

Good! Now to keep the ball rolling.

I checked yesterday and it wasn't on Great American's web site. But I found out about the last GA Memphis show when I saw a small sign with an arrow while driving down Summer Ave. But, since the place is only a couple of miles from my house, I'll probably go. Oh well, it gets me outta the house for a little while.
-
Its not on their web site. But its not the first time Great American has had a show pop up in Memphis unannounced.

I hope that guy was trying to be funny because he has no idea what the F he's talking about. I often carry that exact same model, S&W 642. I'm very happy with it.

Question: if you don't have the Real ID, will they still let you renew over the internet or by mail or will they make you go to DMV and get the little star?
-
I've never understood the stock market and have never been interested in learning. Maybe my retirement fund is playing, but personally I don't. I don't trust anything that can be manipulated and I think that's exactly what's happening here. Trump is playing some kind of game with these tariffs to make himself and his rich friends even richer.

Memphis Sports Shooting Range Under Water!!!
Grayfox54 replied to The Legion's topic in General Chat
I remember the 2009 flood. Water was almost over the shooting benches. They did a good bit of drainage work after that. But they can't stop the Loosahatchie when it decides to leave its banks. At least it should drain faster. -
I didn't see any real need for it either. Figured I'd just do it when I had to renew anyway. But the state came to our town and set up a special temporary station for a few days so that all city employees could get the Real ID. Being a retired city employee, I qualified. The place was 5 minutes from my house. I figured that I'd have to do it sooner or later, so I took advantage of it. In and out in 30 minutes. Sure was better than waiting for hours at the DMV. As I understand it, this is to verify that the person presenting this license is indeed who they say they are. But if the BGs are good enough to fake a driver's license, wouldn't it be simple enough to add that little star? I never have understood the point of it. Can somebody explain please?

More bad weather for West and Middle TN. 02 and 03 April 2025 Edition.
Grayfox54 replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Can't seem to decide what it wants to do at my house. We've had some real heavy downpours with high winds, but it only lasts 10-20 minutes and then quits. That's happened several times since this afternoon. My power went out for about 20 minutes. Now its sorta settled in to a steady medium rain. I hope it stays that way. -

U.S. Supreme Court is the New GhostBusters
Grayfox54 replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Doesn't surprise me a bit. SCOTUS is just following the law. GCA 68 requires a serial number on all firearm receivers. An 80% receiver is still a receiver and is sold as such. Even if it isn't completely finished, there was never any doubt as to what it is. I've often wondered how they got away with selling them. You can still build your own gun. You just have to transfer the serial numbered receiver through a FFL. -
I haven't heard much out of the rest of the state. Were the other protests just as much of a bust?
