  1. I'm no Apple fan, but I followed the story and kind of support their decision. The feds wanted a backdoor to the software that runs their phones, and Apple did not want to provide one. You can't sell a product with an intentional security flaw. I am sure they already had a means to get into the phone, but the feds didn't want to reveal that fact. Was that before or after Snowden?
  2. Only owned one apple phone some years back, a 4s I think, anyway jail broke it on the 1st day. I will take care of my own security, and will turn on a hotspot if I want to, which is why I had to jail break it. I now own an android, and without having to jail break it I can install apps from outside the official sources, which I do from time to time.
  3. Ok, my bad, I thought that was the groups avatar. Never Mind.
  4. I like the idea, but I respectfully request another image be selected for this group as I think the current one should be left for our folks that were left behind. Maybe something like this??
  5. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't just about every LEO agency have a policy of putting officers on admin leave upon a shooting, good or bad?
  6. I'm sorry, there is nothing except a negligent discharge (and that would still tick me off) that would change how I feel about this. There is no reason to target a child, of any color, that is just riding a bike. If he had a beef with one of the parents, then it should have been taken up with them, not the child.
  7. If it is for something serious, or a checkup to check for something serious, I'd go. Too many have put off getting regular checkups and coming down with something that could have either been prevented, or at least caught with time to do something about it.
  8. Riots will depend on the perp me thinks, I don't think there would be any danger of that if you took out some redneck crackhead.
  9. Is it though? Even here we are pointing at that and saying see, they are reporting the news. IMO it will take much more than the token story now and then to make me think they give a damn.
  10. Our training was for near-peer adversaries, so we figured they would have body armor. So it was always two to the chest and one to the head, the thought was that even if they did have body armor the rounds in the chest would put them off balance and allow the follow on shot.
  11. You are so right, the first time I was involved in some training (as a hostage) with what we called "lipstick" rounds was such a rush. Though I was not to be the target of any rounds, I was in the room when the HR team came in taking out the guards, I managed to pick one up, to the side of the head (with a helmet). Seems I was sitting by a window where there was a straight line from a window in an adjoining room and one came through (no glass in the bldg). The team guy was ticked, he had to carry me down three flights because they had to recover me dead or alive, and he didn't know why I would not cooperate when he told me to stand up and walk down until he seen my helmet. As a support guy we got many opportunities to participate in such training, but as either a hostage or guard, even when you know it is coming, it is a surprise when you feel those rounds hitting you, and it is not pleasant, which adds to the realism. I encourage taking training courses that are using paint guns, because there is no arguing if someone missed or not. But even the ones where there is no physical impact, you can get the sense of your reactions to certain conditions such as noise, light, and physical exertion.
  12. Kind of the opposite, seemed like I was trying to move in molasses, my eyes and mind located targets and my body engaged (or not in a couple cases) but we were taught slow is smooth, smooth is fast. After the first time, my hands were pretty shaky once everything was over, the adrenaline was still pretty high I guess, but my rounds went where I wanted them so I don't think they were shaking then.
  13. Muscle memory is a thing, and when SHTF it comes into affect automatically, most times. While on active duty, my greatest fear was how I would react under fire, knowing that, that is when you will either act, run or drop to your knees screaming. I am happy to say, I reacted just fine each and every time, but it is a perishable skill and you must train with your EDC as much as you can, preferably with someone or something that will help identify bad practices to learn not to do them.
  14. Many just can't wrap their head around this.
  15. Here is the thing, IMO, if they suspected they were breaking the law, which apparently they were, then they should have requested a court order to place the cameras, just like a wire tap. I'm of the opinion that game wardens should have the same restrictions as regular LEO, if they want the powers, then the restrictions come with it.
  16. If TWRA wants to mount a camera they better let me know or they may lose them, and I will also submit a bill for cleaning up the litter. I like to plink on my land, I shoot at things that stand out and do not belong to me.
  17. Well wishes for her quick recovery as well as that of the other residents and staff.
  18. I recently came across a good deal on a Ghost Blind, I think it is a good concept but don't know how it will do in practice. I had made a couple of hog hunting trips to TX were I could have used this or something similar to get closer or at least a better angle to a feeder I hunted at. Anyone used one of these; thoughts? https://d2y5sgsy8bbmb8.cloudfront.net/v2/6acddf6c-1c6a-5a4f-bf03-1df23008d07d/ShortForm-Generic-480p-16-9-1409173089793-rpcbe5.mp4
  19. Im a life member of the NRA, but the last three or four years I have been a member of GOA. And if they keep their No Surrender attitude, I will continue being a member.
  20. Thanks for posting. I seen this when it was first released, so I knew what was coming, but yet....
  21. I agree, this would not be a good target for a terrorist or military attack, though as it turned out, it did a lot of damage, IMO it didn't take out any important high value target.
  22. I didn't take it as a bad post, it is definitely an alternative and something someone new Class III may not be aware of. Personally, IF I ever file it will be a Form 1, but I see silencers as a toy right now, I don't need one to hunt, and I have a barrel rigged to quiet down reports while on the range so not in any hurry to acquire one. I have all I need to make one but am waiting until some form of the Hearing Protection Act gets passed and yea I know it may not happen, but that's ok too.
  23. I used to visit my God parents in Granby, what year did that happen? I seem to recall the story, but can't remember when it happened, this was a dispute with the council wasn't it?
  24. I think those guys were photographed sometime before the explosion, probably around 13' or 14' when it was first confiscated. Maybe it's like the atomic bombs in Japan that left structures standing at GZ, the last went up and out. Maybe, they did say they were mostly empty, which may be worse as a full one doesn't explode, it's the dust in the air.
  25. Hmm, I wonder if the trailer created the pressure necessary for an explosion? Like I said, stomping on burning C-4 is enough to lose a foot..at least.
