  1. Fair enough. Reasonably priced Glocks have become pretty rare these days anyway. After I replied to this, I happened to noticed that lots of manufacturers have started to produce G3 slides since the last time I looked. I ended up ordering one, so I'm all set. Good luck with your search.
  2. If you happen to find a complete Gen 3 G19 at a reasonable price, I'd probably split it with you. I would like to have the complete slide. It would have to be Gen 3 though. Good luck, Rusty
  3. Found what I was looking for. Rusty
  4. I've read through that several times now and I still don't know what it says... Their definition of "range" mentions "any other shooting activity", which would likely include air rifles. The only distances it gives seem to relate to ranges that are open to the public, so that wouldn't apply. Thanks, Rusty
  5. I have the survey info, and plat map, and I should be well clear of the county right-of-way. Rusty
  6. Thanks. That pretty much confirms what I've found as well. Nearly all were hunting, but one did state that it was never OK to shoot "across" a road, which is pretty obvious in most cases. These days I shoot mostly high end air rifles, so it won't matter for those anyway, but I do have some powder burners as well. Thanks, Rusty
  7. Greetings, I can't really find a good place to put this thread, so I'll try it here. I'm setting up a shooting range at home, which is very rural. I already have the berm, and shoot pistols on occasion, but I want to clear a lane and put up a shooting bench for longer range shooting. The problem is that the bench will need to be located near (50ft maybe) a paved road, though of course shooting away from the road in a safe direction. I've heard of laws in some states that require any firearm discharge to be more than XX distance from a road, but I can't find any such law in TN. I figure I'll probably end up asking the local police, but I just want to try to do my homework before I do. Can anyone point me to any law in TN regarding this? Would it be more likely to be a state law, or local law? Thanks, Rusty

    Glock Gen5.

I was surprised Glock didn't include the MOS cutout in the Gen 5. Of course I'd also like to see threaded barrels available, particularly since they say the barrels aren't interchangeable with previous generations. I'm not sure that's 100% true, but Glock is way behind on threaded barrels anyway. Best I can tell, they made a summer special run of them a few years ago, then never made any more. If they make a Gen 5 MOS TB version, I'd be compelled to give it a try, mostly for the left handed slide stop, but I suspect I'll be sticking with Gen 4 for now. Cheers, Rusty
  9. I only use Vihtavuori these days, because it's about as clean as powder gets. My 300BO shooting is 99% subsonic using N120 with heavier bullets, but I have loaded some Sierra 110gr Varminters with 16gr of N110. They chrono at about 2080 fps from a 16" barrel. Cheers, Rusty
  10. I carry Underwood 200 or 220 grain hardcast. The G20 is fine with either, but the G29 prefers 200. The Buffalo Bore 220 showed some signs of instability when I tried it, so I stick with the Underwood. Cheers, Rusty
  11. I recently ordered a Vortex Viper, which seems to be their latest compact offering. The dot isn't quite as bright at the RMR, and the whole unit appears to be much less robust, however it IS less than half the price! If you weren't already invested in RMRs, it's likely you'd be completely satisfied with it. I returned mine without ever mounting it, because all the pistols I currently have are milled for the RMR, and they are not interchangeable. Even though I'm fairly OCD about having things be the same, now that I have MOS models on the way, I might consider trying the Viiper on one of those. Cheers, Rusty
  12. The Trijicon RMR is a really heavy duty piece of gear. I've used an RM07s on a G21, G20, G17, and G37, and I'm happy enough with it to use it as my only optic. My G29 and G38 slides are at OneSourceTactical for milling now, and I'm picking up a G19MOS and G17MOS next week. I've ordered a couple more RM07s as well. Yes, I like them :-) The only issue I've ever had with the RMR is that a couple of them have occasionally shut off. The fix seems to be cleaning the battery contacts, and tweaking the side contact a bit. I've never once found the contacts to be dirty, but I go through the motions, reinstall the same battery, and it works fine after that. Cheers, Rusty
  13. I don't claim to be any sort of expert, but I have several RMRs, and they're all RM07s (6.5).  If you're goal is bullseye shooting, a smaller dot would be useful, but I haven't found the larger dot to be any problem.  It's not hard to visually center a larger dot on a typical target, and at normal handgun ranges (25 yards or less).    If you plan to shoot 100 yards, are you going to zero your optic for that distance, or just hold over using your normal zero.  If you're holding over, then the size of the dot won't matter, because it won't be covering your target anyway.  The only time I think I'd want a smaller dot is if I was going to zero it for long range, but I couldn't hit anything anyway, so I might as well stick with the big dot :-)   Rusty
  14. FWIW, OST received my G37 slide on the 2nd, and shipped it on the 15th.   Cheers, Rusty

    45 GAP?...

Every time this comes up, I hear the same phrases repeated- "answer looking for a question", "solution looking for a problem", etc.  If you think about when these were created, you will realize these statements are not correct.  Neither the SF frame nor the G4 frame existed when the GAP was introduced, and there was a HUGE difference in the size of the grip between a G3 G21/30 and the GAP frames.  It was very much a real problem, and the GAP was a real solution.    Of course that was then, and this is now.  From today's perspective, it's really hard to justify the GAP with the G4 frames being so much closer in size.  In retrospect, I wonder if Glock wishes they had just reduced the size of the 45ACP frames earlier instead of creating a new cartridge.  I'm sure there was some ego involved in having a "Glock" cartridge, but I won't be surprised if the GAP pistols are dropped from the lineup.  I hope they make a G38 G4 before that happens, but I'd bet against it.     I have the G21 G4, and the G37 G4 pistols.  I do slightly prefer the grip on the G37, even though I have fairly big hands.  The difference is small, and I'd have a hard time suggesting that anyone should buy a GAP pistol now, particularly if they aren't reloaders.    Cheers, Rusty
  16.   Yes, the sights they install are raised height suppressor sights, which co-witness with the RMR.    Cheers, Rusty
  17.   I can't seem to attach photos, though I've done it in the classified section.  These are pics I found from a G21 I posted for sale.  It has the same RMR and was milled by the same shop.  Note that I have always opted for the night sight option rather than the plain sights.  The G37 that's in their shop now is only getting the standard black sights though.  I also always order the cover plate for something like $20, just in case you want to remove the RMR and have no gap missing from the slide.     As for the G40, I'm very tempted to buy one, but I can't really justify it since I have the G20.  There are only two reasons to get a longer slide, and one of those (longer sight radius) is negated when you use an RMR.  You also get extra velocity, but I can get that with a longer barrel if I ever feel like I need it.  The G20 is my woods gun, for our property on the border of the Cherokee National Forrest.  Ammo is Underwood 220gr hard cast for the woods.    Cheers, Rusty       [sharedmedia=core:attachments:13945] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:13944]
  18. I've had 4 slides done by these guys counting the one they have right now.  One of those was a G20.     http://www.onesourcetactical.com/suareztrijiconrmrinstallation.aspx#.VDskoxaVEa4   Turnaround is a few weeks as I recall, assuming you don't have them recoat the milled section.  Obviously I've been happy with their work, or I wouldn't keep sending them slides :-)   Cheers, Rusty
  19. Just got the email on my second SBR form 1 (trust).  140 days.   Cheers, Rusty
  20. I'm at 138 days on my second form 1.  I got an email with the tax stamp when the first one was done, but I have read posts where several people claim to never receive the email.  It certainly won't hurt to log in every week or so to check, assuming that's possible.    The eforms site has been flaky for the last 2-3 weeks.  Either it's completely down, or I get a login exception message when trying to log in.  Mine might be approved now, but the site is too dysfunctional to show it.    Rusty
  21. A texture on the outside of the bullet, like dimples on a golf ball.  If not, then maybe they'll do that next time they change everything :-)   Rusty
  22. Just another point of data, maybe not relevant to the OP's question.  I have a Gen4 G21, with RMR, factory Glock threaded barrel, and an Octane45 can.  I've been using the can for 300 blackout, but today I took it out and tried it on the G21 just to see how it worked.  I was shooting 230 gr reloads (don't tell Glock), which are loaded on the light side, and I had no problems at all.  Every round cycled, and the slide locked back on the last round.  The slide was noticeably slower to cycle, but it worked fine.    Rusty

    Glock 43

Please take my name off or YOUR quote.  I had a Kahr, and got rid of it because I hated the trigger.    Cheers, Rusty

    Glock 43

I don't have one, I have two :-)   I love the gun for concealed carry, and I bought one for my wife as well.   Both have been perfect in function so far, and they're just the right size to be comfortable, but easily concealable.  Basically, it's the carry pistol I've been waiting for for years.    Cheers, Rusty
  25. I have a Specialist in the duty finish, and it's really nice.  I would have been OK with the Valor, but I'm left handed and like the standard ambi safeties on the Specialist.  Truth be told, I'm more of a Glock guy, but there's just something about a 1911.  After owning a few misc 1911s, I decided that I wanted one really nice 1911, without getting into the super high dollar models.  After a bunch of research, the Dan Wesson pistols seemed like just what I was looking for.  It's really amazing how smooth the action of the slide feels compared to other 1911s I've owned.  Sweet pistol!   Cheers, Rusty
