  1. It'll cure obesity, you watch!
  2. Beautiful gun!
  3. It's usually considered a 'soft' check, and does not impact your credit. Only when filling out the paperwork for the actual loan application, will it impact your credit. Ditto shop around, never hurts to ask. One lender conversation may have a different tidbit of information, or different way of saying things, and help you get a clearer picture. Also rates may vary. 0.25% might not seem like a lot, but it will over the life of the loan. You may be better off buying points, too. Also make sure to add in any PMI (Private Mortgage Insurance), Home Insurance, and taxes to your 'payment' number. You can easily increase your monthly by several hundred dollars right there....
  4. Well now how could you have been married 25 years, when you don't look a day over 19?!?!
  5. As a yankee transplant, a guy I was working for explained it to me... Sometimes folks from out of state move here and start spouting off about how things should be, or the way they used to do it back home... and frankly, that's not the least bit appreciated. In particular, northerners are notorious for this (I'm from NY, believe me, it's one reason why I left that state!) You will find folks down here are friendly and amicable, but as soon as you open your mouth, they'll know you ain't from around these parts (accent), and can expect the following 3 questions: Where you from/why did you move here? (see TNBuckeye's comment for the reason why) Where do you work? (Damn freeloading hippie's can go back to where you came from!) What Church do you go to? (You would love ours, why don't you come on next Weds?) Funny story, one time a nice old lady at the grocery store was chatting me up in the produce section (they'll do that down here, honest), and I was getting tired of the church question, so on a lark, I said "Heaven's no, we don't go to church, we're Jewish". Swear to God, she turned white as a ghost and walked away without saying another word.
  6. LOL! That's the weird part, I've only met a couple of people in person. There are T-shirts, hat's, decal stickers for your car.... still never see any TGO'ers at the range, even though I've probably shot next to them! LOL!
  7. I for one firmly believe the purpose and scope of the 2nd amendment is to act as a leash on government, and ensuring the populace has the means, and capability, to defend their freedom against a government who's grown too big for it's britches! If one knows even a smattering of history, then you know it ain't about deer rifles, and if you're paying attention to the news today, you know it's as appropriate as ever!
  8. Welcome to TN! As another transplant from the communist North (Western NY area), you'll be pleased with the changes here. Also a member at ORSA, it's a great club - has a bit of a country-club feel to it, some of the other ranges around here are just dirt pits w/ steel targets. Frankly, I think that's one of it's good points however. Be glad to give you a tour any time. I'm also out on the West side of Knox. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you've got any questions about the area. Got a good buddy lives downtown Chi-town near the lake, wish I could convince him it's time to move, alas, he likes the city too much. - Kevin
  9. https://crimeresearch.org/2017/07/12-3-americans-sometimes-carry-handguns-5-4-americans-carry-time-2-4-carry-time/ For those only interested in the money shot: — 30% of American adults say that they own a gun — 72% of the people who own a gun, say they own a handgun or a pistol — 11% of handgun owners say that they carry all the time, 26% say they carry most or all the time, and 57 percent say that they carry at least some of the time. Assuming 242.9 million adults, what does that imply? — 2.4% say that they carry all the time — that translates into over 5.83 million people. — 5.62% carry most or all the time — that translates into over 13.64 million people. — 12.3% carry at least some time in the past — that translates into over 29.9 million people. My employer prohibits me from carrying while on the job, because we sometimes go into schools and other area's that it is forbidden. However when I am performing in my sales or management role, and won't be going into one of those places, I do carry, concealed. Screw 'em. That's why they call it 'concealed carry'. Likewise, most of the time I leave the house (unless going to the kids' school for a ball game, etc.), I carry. I won't say 100%, but closer to 80-85% of the time (quick run to the corner store, I don't often bother). - K
  10. Kick life to the curb and make it a point to go to one of Highwalker's FREE classes. Time well spent, great fellow, great time. I'd wait for warmer/drier weather, but don't miss out on a great learning opportunity. Frankly, it's best to attend a couple classes at different times of the year? What you see in Spring will be different than what you see in the Summer and Fall.
  11. Anderson lower and upper, great rifle. Felt good knowing I was supporting a US Machine shop by buying American Made product as well.
  12. You're right, I agree. It irks me to no end, because it isn't a "Right", it's a service you pay for. I can still recall sitting around the dinner table one night as a child when my Dad was working at a difficult job, Mom kept telling him to quit, it's not worth it, they went round and round, and finally he said, "It's for the benefits".... I knew what he meant. He meant the healthcare insurance he was providing for his children and family. Now every freeloading turd on the planet wants free food, free housing (and they want the place in the suburbs w/ a white picket fence and 2 honda's in the driveway, don't you stick me in some brick building in the inner city!), and free trips to the Dr's. And politicians argue that it's cheaper than dealing w/ them in the emergency room (which they take an ambulance to (also free, natch), because they got a splinter in their big toe). ... Sorry, got me wound up on a tangent there. Though it brings up another point. All this talk of politics and everything that's going on today, it skirts the real issue: The have-nots want what he have's have! And they figured out they can vote their way to getting it! This will have consequences, and it ain't gonna be pretty.
  13. Ditto what peejman said. I started w/ orangish brown clay.... dump truck full of compost from Monterrey Mushrooms, dunno how many bags of peat moss, and countless contributions from my horses... it's dark grey soil now, not brown clay. Takes a couple years tho, can't do it all at once.
  14. Rented a tiller this weekend and tore that Sh*#! up! Added 3 beds for berry bushes, can't count how much peat moss, and a big contribution from the horses as well... Was worth the 65 bucks. Started Garlic and beans, will probably get some tater's in this weekend if it ever stops raining!
  15. Absotively! That's one of the (many) things wrong w/ the medical industry these days. The money incentive is too corrupting. It's not about curing the disease anymore, it's about treating the symptoms. Anyone else notice that trend? I've had personal experience w/ Gastro-intestinal issues. Here, try this pill. No? OK, take this one instead. Rinse, repeat. Don't teach the patient to deal with the cause (stress), treat the symptom w/ something consumable. It's more profitable than a cure.
  16. Be sure to let us know when something on the topic hits your inbox! LOL!
  17. Welcome to this side of the Smokies! Ditto what @peejman said. I get up there for work sometimes and it's gorgeous! Johnson City, Greenville, that whole stretch along 81, just 'purty. - K
  18. What's even worse, is they'll send the parents home w/ a script and little Johnny will learn to just pop a pill and make all his problems go away. ... and people wonder how we got here? Taking drugs to solve all your problems is fine so long as you buy them from a guy in a white lab coat, apparently.
  19. May be looking to hire a CDL route driver in the Knoxville area. Anyone possessing a Class A or B license, interested in a good paying job with good benefits, home every night, shoot me a PM, and I'll share the details. - Kevin
  20. Good to know (about the tires)! I've been using "Tim's tires" down the road in Harriman. Amazing prices, honest service, not a far drive from there, may be worth checking out next time. - K
  21. LOL! I bought a chunk of land here in Kingston. Paperwork said: 14.5 acres, deeded 17.2 I asked the attorney at close, the seller, the tax clerk, the realtor.... everyone, nobody could tell me what that mean. FINALLY met the GIS guy at the courthouse, he said someone, somewhere in the past sold that land as "17.2 acres", but when we measure it, it's 14.5. Sigh... I did walk the entire property w/ the seller, he showed me the posts from TWRA that define the corners, and said "it is what it is". They've got higher priced lawyers than you can ever afford, but if you want to fight them on it, be my guest. That being said, give me a Private Message jwinter, we're getting ready to start building, and the bank requires a recent survey. Apparently it's cheaper if I do it BEFORE the tree's leaf out (wooded lot near Watt's Bar lake in Kingston). - Kevin
  22. Yeah, ummm... I'm assuming you have a competent real estate attorney working on your behalf (you should, they're cheap). (S)He can answer the question knowledgeably (hopefully), and aid in drawing up any contracts of easements, or other stipulations, to be notarized, and signed at the closing. Personally, I would try to avoid the situation as much as possible (purchase the land, move the building, etc.) Just asking for trouble. That's not to say it can't work out, but... Just my 2-bits.
  23. I've had good luck with "SpiderWire" in the lighter tests. Though I think that may be primarily monofilament.
  24. Man, don't get me started.....
  25. Bah, curmudgeonly old fart like the rest of us!
