  1. Ahhh.. spoken like a true yankee (I can say that, I lived in NY for the first 41 years of my life, LOL! ) Actually, credit-card skimmers are often found on gas-pumps, I try to avoid it, or always charge a specific amount, to make it easier to detect purchases that are unauthorized (I usually pump a dollar amount equal to my birth year).
  2. Indeed, welcome! As a transplant myself, it's a great place to call home. My kids have done well in the schools here, and made the adjustment well. - Kevin
  3. Hahaha, I like the way you think, it's the finances that don't agree with it!
  4. Great, now I want to upgrade my V 1.0.... Think the Gun Shop will run a "trade-in" special?
  5. And to think I wasted 20-years on Lithography, PSHAW! - K
  6. This.... I survived 8 days w/o power during the NE Blackout, and was glad I had stores and cash for an emergency. That and a big stack of firewood! - K
  7. 20 rds of Remington Match Grade 5.56.... AT $1.35 A POP! But if I can hold a tight group at 200 yds it might just convince me to start reloading for that pig of an AR (it just LOVES the wolf 223's in steel case!)
  8. LOL! I remember when I was about 15 or so I ordered a copy of The Anarchists Cookbook, and had to give my name and addy and phone number to the clerk b/c they had to special order that one. 'Spose I've been on one of those lists ever since, .
  9. As a 20-year veteran of the printing biz, I'm not at all surprised, but... great opportunity to add to your bookshelf on the cheap! http://www.paladin-press.com/ All manner of titles that may be of interest to folks here, from combat techniques, ammunition and ballistics, M&P, Self-Defense, etc., etc., etc. - K
  10. I think the big concern for a lot of people with online storage is counter-party risk. If it's not in your control, do you really have ownership of it?
  11. Ditto your google comments, however frankly I don't think they're that interested in your daughter, no matter how cute she is! As a 20-year IT veteran, we had a saying - There are 2 kinds of people: those that perform backups, and those that have never had a Hard Drive crash. As mentioned earlier, you will need to store said thumb-drive off-site. A fire-proof safe will likely not protect a flash-drive. In fact, taking it a step further, I would recommend a back-up of the back-up (2 is 1, 1 is none). Get 2 of those flash drives, store one at your work, one at your wife's. - K
  12. Daughter was dating the last quarterback, wonder if she switched to the new kid too? LOL! I'm on campus 5x a week for work. "The Rock" has been decorated w/ various 'Fire Butch' tags for a few weeks now. Was at Sat's game, 1st half was great, 2nd half a bunch of amateurs. I tend to agree. Find somewhere else to park your 550 Butch. Heard it will cost a pretty penny to buy his contract out, though?
  13. Amen to that! Didn't have cable for years because.... That would have been neat to see the halides on timers like that? I played around w/ the moonlight LED's a little, and had Sea Swirls on the Iwaki return pump. Grew hard corals like mad, had all kinds of things spawning. Remarkable 'hobby'. I miss it too!
  14. That would have been nice! One tank? My last one was a 230-gal custom Starfire tank w/ euro-bracing, gorgeous glass... 1400 watts of halides, 45-gal sump and a 65-gal refugium. Sucker started leaking on me one day shortly before we moved a while back, and for the next 7-years I just ran the old refugium and sump as a 'hobby' tank in the basement (e.g. it was way too ugly to display anything, but I still enjoyed messing around). I've still got that old tank, and a bucket of my old live rock, ballasts, etc... One of these days I might set it up again, but who knows. Kids take all my time and money now, not to mention the hit my ammo-budget would have to take! - K
  15. Hehhee, yeah, ummm..... no comment.
  16. Yeah, big orange, sure stunk it up today! Figure it would be the one game a year I take the family to! - K
  17. Thanks for the great ideas! I like aquariums also (kept a saltwater reef aquarium myself for 20 yrs - thus the screen name), but my parents don't share the interest, and at their age, lots of walking is challenging. My oldest went w/ his school, and we plan on doing that w the kids one of these days. Rock city sound like it might work (that's the mtn. view where you can see 7 states, right?), as of course, I've seen the advertisements (have YOU seen rock city?) Thanks.
  18. Welcome to TGO and the fine state of Tennessee! If you would like to see the range at Oak Ridge Sportsman Association gather up your toys and spare ammo and give me a shout!
  19. My daughter has a softball tournament in 'Nooga on Sunday. My Parents are in town visiting, and want to watch their grand-daughter play, but won't be able to wait through an entire tournament (i.e. 3-4 games). What adult-friendly activities can we look into to kill a couple hours, not cost an arm and a leg (aka Aquarium's out), and not be overly strenuous (we can do a little walking, but not a lot) - K
  20. You've got a standing offer to head out there with me anytime Ugly. Drag Dolo out of his hiding place when you do, it's been too long since I've seen either of you (and Oma too!) - K
  21. Correct. Shoot an eMail to Mike Glassman and ask when the next meeting is. There are specific times when the range is available (if you've never seen it, it cuts across part of the club, so is not open to shoot just any time). There are no fee's or additional due's or anything, they just want to make sure members understand and follow the rules for the safety of all club members. Alternatively, you could buy a bunch of really small targets and paste 'em up on the 200-yd target stand. - K
  22. That's been my thinking on the bolt-action rifle theory for a while. There are a lot of good options out there from a variety of manufacturers, each with their pluses and minuses. Savage however has a reasonably priced product that comes with a well regarded trigger system, and is a tack-driver out of the box. Unless there is a specific feature or you're an experienced long distance shooter that wants product-X from a particular manufacturer for a particular reason, Savage is hard to beat. It amazes me when talking about this stuff how some folks don't bat an eye at spending a premium for a product, with the expectation of having to dump another 500-clams into it to make the trigger better, or the sights right, or.... I mean, my goodness. If you spend that extra cake on a decent scope and ammo to p-r-a-c-t-i-c-e, maybe that 800-dollar gun will shoot as good for you as the 1200-dollar one? Just how I look at it, one man's opinion. - K
  23. (Been thinking Savage, but....) It sure would look 'purty in the gun case next to the Ruger American .22 we bought for the kids! I smell a mini-meet for TGO'ers at ORSA! - K
  24. Dang... Gotta be a member of the high-power team to shoot the 600, 800, and 1000 yd ranges out there, and I don't have a gun that can do that (yet!)
