  1. I'm glad he has gone to his reward... Two bits of good news today... Lautenberg and Mandella...   leroy
  2. Thanks for posting this sobering commentary...   leroy
  3. This jackass is busy proving that he knows nothing about the founding of this country or the Bill of Rights... Who cares what this clown thinks...   leroy
  4. A buddy of mine turned me on to Titegroup for 45 ACP... I like it... We use Titegroup and WW 231 a lot... I like it a lot for standard velocity pistol loads in all flavors... I dont think ya can go wrong with Titegroup, WW 231 (...or its Hogdon brother, cant think of its name...) or Unique... We've shot it by the tens if not hundreds of pounds over the years in everything from 380 ACP to 45 Colt... They all work great...   leroy
  5. Thank God this child is home and is ok...   We'll keep sending up the prayers for all of you...   leroy
  6. I say that if people like this sort of thing; as my 24 year old says; "...they need to keep on likin it..."...   It escapes me why New York City (...and the state, for that matter...) is considered a part of the United States...   Boss Tweed used to run New York City politics and the state as well... They have a new "Boss Tweed" in tyrants like Cuomo and Bloomberg and whoever the jackass wuz that they elected in their recent mayoral election... As far as im concerned, they can collect all the firearms they want to up there and the hapless serfs who live up there can keep bowin down and kissin the rings (...and other parts...) of these tyrant's anatomy...   The ones who love liberty will soon move out and allow this ratty place to turn from the "Great White Way" to another Detroit... I'm ok with wthat; just dont try to export it to other locations...   The hell with them all, the smart ones will leave; and those who like this stuff will keep electing the Bloombergs and Cuomos...   leroy

    .357 Sig?

The first "plastic"; pistol i ever owned wuz a 357sig (...Glock 33...)... An old gun tradin buddy of mine (...an avowed "N" frame smith guy...) said i needed to try one... This ole boy is a finished pistolero and regularly shoots most everything; so i knew he knew what he wuz talkin about... I knew that if he liked the little gun, it had plenty of potential....At the time, i was lookin for a small carry pistol that didnt cost an arm and a leg ALA the little 1911's...   I'm an old time reloader and i rounded up the stuff and loaded up some brass and some 125 grain sig bullets.... I used the tried and true recipe for them and loaded 13.0 to 13.5 grains of AA#9... These rounds will do an honest 1250 to 1275 fps (...my actual chronograph data...) out of the short barreled glock (....3.42 inches...)..., and it shoots straight as an arrow... It is, in fact, the best 9 mm type pistol i have ever owned... I've got the compact glock in 357 sig as well... Same thing... Utterly reliable, plenty of power, very accurate... Does it kick; yeah a bit, but it is easily controllable by a reasonably experienced shooter... Muzzle blast; yeah... no more than a 357 mag...   I am a confirmed 357 sig affectionado.... The 357 sig is, in fact, what was claimed for the 9 mm when the political class lied about the performance of the 9 mm in order to sell new pistols to the military in the eighties... Don't buy into the idea that a 9mm luger is anywhere as powerful as a 357 sig in the same length barrel... The sig case is bigger and holds more powder than the 9 mm...Ya can argue about the 9 mm plus plus; but i contend that aint a real 9 mm; its an breed of it's own...   If ya reload, i heartily recommend the sig in any size pistol ya like...I carry the glock 33 and a glock 27 (...40 s & w; same size as the 33...) pretty regularly... I liked the little sig so well in the glock type pistol; that from that one little pistol in 357 sig; there have sprung 3 more; includin a full size 10 mm... I like 'em...   Hope this helps a bit... leroy
  8. The way i understand this; the guy that got shot evidently wuz an entertainer who wuz (....i think, i dont know...) workin for the guy who did the shootin... Maybe bad blood, old debts, old anything; all of it pure speculation on my part.... Havin said that; the real fact is that i dont know... I'm gettin like you Dave: this one looks a bit strange to me from the get-go...I dont know of any "additional information" as yet...   leroy
  9. Sounds like settling old scores to me....   leroy
  10.   Super:  Bob is a great guy and an excellent smith "smith"... We have used both Hamilton Bowen (...he does more "fancy" cosmetic hand and machine work -- E.G. blackpowder flutes on smiths and colts, etc...) and Bob (...he is a machinist also; does lots of rifle work and builds parts as needed...) almost interchangeably over the years...   I've got a couple of old 1917 smith and wessons that are goin over to Bob to redo the triggers on just after the first of the year myself; along with a newer smith 442 that needs some trigger work...   The trigger job Bob did on our little model 36 smith is excellent...   I have found Bob to be an excellent gunsmith...He should be able to look at, clean up, or fix anything ya need doin... We are classic smith guys ourselves (...we like "N" frames like your model 27; on of my all time favorite smiths, by the way....) and I wouldnt hesitate to have Bob do anything that wuz needed to any of them...   As ya can see im a great Predator Custom Shop supporter, satisfied customer, and cheerleader... They are all great guys and they are as good a group of gun craftsmen that ya can find anywhere... More than that, they get things done relatively quickly and their word is their bond... A very valuable commodity today...   leroy
  11. Sidewinder:  I think the hornet/contender combo is the best 22 caliber centerfire TC set up ya can have... Would love to have one myself...A one in 12 twist is just right for the lighter 22 bullets like the 45 to 52 grainers...Like Pinus said; let us know how this one works out...   My only experience with a hornet wuz an anschutz sporter a buddy of mine had... As i remember, it wuz a box magazine fed rifle with iron peep sights... It wuz undoubtedly one of the best 22 cf rifle ive ever shot---includin our beloved remington 700 varmiter in 222... They are relatively quiet and deadly accurate... It seems to me that he used 45 grainers and 2400 in his...  It's been a long time ago...   Let us know how this works out...   leroy
  12. Call Bob Howard, the gunsmith a Predator Custom Shop in Knoxville... He is an excellent "Smith & Wesson" gunsmith... He has tuned several smiths for me... He is a good guy and will be glad to help ya out... Website here: http://www.predatorcustomshop.com/   leroy
  13. Mike: RE: this.... Could be "tolerance stacking"... Long chamber ream plus too deep on the belt cut...   What we found was a pretty good difference in chambers between the two rifles that are both individually in spec... I wonder if any of your ole buddies has a case gage to check the factory ammo with?...   leroy
  14. Guys.... I think ya may be on to somethin RE: a "bubba barrel swap"; or it could be a bad resize on the case shoulder...   We used to shoot lots of 300 win mag... One of the things that happens sometimes with these belted mags is that in resizing; the shoulder is pushed back too far... The fact is that the belt is mostly on there for looks...It sounds ta me like the chamber cut for the belt is a bit sloppy; plus the shoulder is bein pushed back on the rounds... That's why the extractor wont pick up the round to "unload" prior ta firing...   We discovered (...the hard way naturally...) that a 300 really headspaces on the shoulder just like everything else without a belt... We tailored each round to each individual chamber (...we had two guns, a #1 V and a remington 40X single shot...)...  Before i did anything else; i would spend $30 or so dollars and buy a case gage from Brownell's and check a fired case... That should tell the story on the barrel / bolt headspace without doin too much; and you all can do it at home...   If this old gun is, indeed, a pre 64 winchester with a mauser (...claw...) extractor; the action is pretty valuable and the old gun probably ought to be salvaged... The action alone is worth a pretty good chunk of money... Remember, this thing is a standard length (...30-06...) sized action... Ya can make most anything ya want out of the action by just changin the barrel... I would recommend takin a good, hard look at all this and see if it is a shoulder set back problem with the loads... Ya get the "bright, shiney ring" thing when it is bad... I know, ive seen a pile of 'em; and probably have a few examples layin around the house...   Take a look and let us know what ya find...   leroy
  15. Dave: RE: This... My guess is that he paid em, and when it wuz over, he wuz broke...If there wuz anything left; his delightful wife whupped him, took it, spent it, and used any remainder to file divorce proceedings...   RE: This... You (...and he...) are exactly right.... We are responsible adults (...for the most part, that is...) here on this august forum; and, as such, are held to a "higher standard"... The way i see things, that's the way it should be...   Methinks that both Dave and TMF like the "devil's advocate" thing and i think that is a good thing... It makes everybody think...   Keep up the good work... leroy the "bleedin heart"
  16. Well said: The second paragraph (...the one i left out...) is the the difference between you and me... Ya seem to see an "evil genius/psychopath".... I see a funny, bumbling little nondescript man...  That's the difference in people's experience... That bein said; I'm finally gonna hush now... It's been a great dialogue.. Well thought out on your part...   leroy
  17. The point is well-taken and i like the analogy; but i disagree on the characteristics of the "perpetrators"....... O.J. had plenty of money to buy lawyers and witnesses with;... the z-man is a "poor boy" in relative terms; he couldn't even get out of jail on bond...   leroy
  18. TMF: RE: the "sherlock" and addin thing... My addin just went the opposite of yours... My "trend" is incredibly poor taste in women (...ive got an older brother and a dear, now "gone home" in-law that had the same problem....)... There's plenty of 'em out there to stay away from... Your "trend" appears to be the "evil genius"/"mean to damsels" thing.... I've seen far fewer "evil geniuses" than high toned harpys with an attitude in my day...   RE: This...   Ill buy that it's addin and that it's a 'trend"; but, to me at least; it dont square with this:     Where's ole george's "...benefit of the doubt ....","...innocent until proben guilty"...., and "...defend people you don't agree with...." thing?   RE: OS comment on "gold diggin"... I figure she wuz diggin with the news media and negotiating her own "deal"... I agree with ya that ole george aint got much; but she may be thinkin that he may come into some money for the "malitious prosecution" and "defaming by the media" thing...  Without george, however, she is nothin...  George is a necessary side-kick for the payoff....   leroy
  19. TMF:  I pretty much agree with your post above (...#112...); with one exception... That exception is that Z-Man aint been tried for this latest "crime" as yet; and there are those of us that couldn't help but think that it might be that there could be a gold diggin harpy involved somewhere.... I dont know if ya have seen this as yet: http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/11/developing-zimmerman-defense-narrative-girlfriend-set-him-up/   I will grant that i havent seen a "rap sheet" for Z-Man; but if he wuz convicted of the other domestic violence stuff or plead "no contest"; i cant see how he could have legally owned and obtained a cc permit for the kel tec he finished brother trayvon off with...   Could you not draw the conclusion from the aforementioned info that he wasn't guilty of them heinous charges it wuz whispered that he wuz guilty of; Which leads me back to the "....You must defend people you dont agree with..." thing??... If the Florida constabulary thought they could have made a case on this stuff; i think they would have.... Police jurisdictions everywhere seem to like whoppin us men over the very thought we might lay a hand on the fairer sex to the point (...i think, at least...) that the "...innocent to proven guilty thing is reversed to "guilty as charged" without trial...   I aint pickin on ya; but it appears to me that you seem to be sayin that Z-Man "beat the system" and is a combination "evil genius" and psycopath... Ya also seem to be sayin that the Florida constabulary let the "old charges" slide by not prosecuting them...I cant buy that proposition either; and i figure im pretty open minded...   I could buy the proposition that lots of folks are tryin to either empty his pockets (...gold diggin harpys...), put him in jail for political gain (...fla political class...), makin z-man's actions the catylist for doin away with "stand your ground" and ccw, or just plain kill him (...the militant crowd); and they are simply continuin their work with this latest "revelation"...   As to the donation for the z-man's "replacement gun"; i dont see that as a bad thing...   On a personal basis; i dont think that shootin a thug that is tryin to kill ya is a particuarly bad thing...It seems necessary and prudent in this particular case here (...that is, if ya believed trayvon wuz beatin the z-man's brains out....) and it makes the world a better place when a thug is gone...I have a bit of a problem findin fault with either of those actions; except for the sad reality of takin a life... The fact is that i think trayvon made his decision long ago to be a "stone cold killa"; it just didnt work out...   As to the "need to shoot thing"; I will grant that i didn't always feel that way... I used to be young myself and could go unarmed and unafraid... I'm a bit older not, and i no longer can do them things...A sucker punch to my snout would probably kill me outright (...geezer and coumadin patient...)... That's exactly why im gonna do my best to see that it doesnt happen... It's funny how a bit of age (...or a good whoopin...) can change your view of the world...   leroy
  20. TMF:  Ole buddy.... I would ask in the kindest possible way; please read the two quotes below and reconcile them for me please....   What in the world has happened here, bruthah???.... Who among us has proposed confering sainthood on the Z-Man or even suggested he is a role model for the "...yutths of america..." or the poster boy for gun rights?.... I'm a bit confused... Please enlighten me here....   Just wonderin.... leroy
  21. Any news on this front?.... I cant find anything...   leroy
  22.   I understand.... My main thrust wuz tryin to point out the "reality" of the situation; along with noting the change in posture.... The best "term limit" is the ballot box; just as you have opined... I'm old enough to remember when a 30 year veteran of the senate wuz turned out over his vote for the infamous Gun Control Act of 1968.... His name, Albert Gore, Sr... It can be done if folks get mad enough at a  politician's actions...   Keep up the good work... leroy
  23. jacob:  RE: post #21 above ... I dont disagree... I wuz merely stating what i read and opining that the Tea Party folk were changing behaviors; .....nothin more...   No one has been a greater critic of lamar alexander's actions than i have... I would llike to see him go too; but my guess is that he wont go until he decides too... He is a polititian first and foremost....  My guess is that he will pass it on to Bill Haslam ALA the way that the great Howard Baker passed his mantle to lamar...    Politics is, at it's core, a dirty business; and no one on either side of the aisle is dirtier than lamar.... He's vindictive, overbearing, headstrong, well-connected, and smart... That is a formidable combination... My advise is that ya better enjoy whatever lamar is doin and keep the pressure up via the Tea Party...  Ya aint likely to outst him... That is the sad reality of politics...   leroy
  24. Vests, yeah; ar's, yeah; RPG's, no; poision gas and bio-weapons, no; tactical nukes, no; artillery, no; tanks; no; flame throwers, no; house crushing vehicles, no.... Ya get the picture....   leroy
  25. Peace makes an interesting point here... I just got my monthly rag from alexander; he is sayin and doin (...apparently...) all the "right things" from a conservative perspective.... My guess is that he, in fact, thinks the challenges from the Tea Party are serious enough to modify his stinkin behavior now that more citizens are watchin... I count that a good thing....   Keep up the good work Tea Party members!!...   leroy
