  1. Peace makes an interesting point here... I just got my monthly rag from alexander; he is sayin and doin (...apparently...) all the "right things" from a conservative perspective.... My guess is that he, in fact, thinks the challenges from the Tea Party are serious enough to modify his stinkin behavior now that more citizens are watchin... I count that a good thing....   Keep up the good work Tea Party members!!...   leroy
  2. All:  Interestin read from our buddies at the Legal Insurrection blog:  http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/11/democrats-nuked-the-ratchet/#more-71465   leroy
  3. Unhappily (...for the democrats, at this juncture...) there will be another election in 2014... I'm kinda like Mac; i wonder how the democrats will like the simple majority rule when they are in the minority?... Havin said that; i think Harry Reid is an angry old hoodlum that has coveted the power he is wielding now; and is fond of the "...it's my way or the highway..." mantra... He could give a damn less about the future... For him, the future ends when he goes to his sorry reward... At the end of the day, its not about governing, or political maneuvering; its about power, man....   leroy
  4. Folks; im continually amazed at what i read here...   The fact is that we have an adversarial court system in this country; and that ya are "...innocent until proven guilty..."; and must be indicted for felonious crimes upon a "True Bill" from the grand jury; except when ya are in florida; which i think is a perversion of the law by the florida state attorney that should be addressed...     No one has conferred sainthood on the Z-Man here; and i doubt that any of us would want the "Z-Man" as an in-law or even a distant relative...   He is, in fact, foolish in my view; and that is bein pretty charitable with the adjectives and descriptors here.... All that bein said; he is still a citizen of the good ole usa and the state of florida  and he has, in fact, been given a trial by his peers in which he wuz found "not guilty"...  The state's attorney decided not to appeal this case because they full-well knew it couldn't go anywhere; and there are plenty of folks that think (...includin me...) that he shouldnt have been tried to begin with...   The fact is that Trayvon Martin wuz a dammed thug that got exactly what he asked for... Martin is being used in death to further the political ambitions of Ben Crump on the national scene, to assuage the pain of grieving and doting parents in a sad attempt at semi-deifying and conferring sainthood on a thug son, and to feather the nests of some sorry florida politicians (...democrats and republicans...) to curry the black vote in florida and on the national scene...   The fact is, that this whole thing was never about justice for anyone from the beginning... It was about furthering political agendas on a local, state and national level... Ray Charles (...if he wuz still down on the earth with us...) could see that...   Zimmerman is being painted as a "stone cold killa" (...which, by the way, is what i think Trayvon wanted to be...) who has cheated the system; when nothing could be farther from the truth...  He was, in fact, found innocent of a crime by a jury of his peers in the state of florida, and we (...as well as others have to accept that verdict, even Eric Holder has had to accept it; look who he is....)  I think the truth is that he is a nondescript little guy with some problems that have become very public because of the political head-hunting that is goin on... To not bee able to see that, smacks of some real need for some fairness and common sense calibration of your intuitive judgement glasses....   Everyone here can rest assured that the Z-Man will be tried and tried again until he is jailed in florida because that is, apparently, what the political apparatchiks in the state government want... It doesn't have a dammed thing to do with guilt or innocence; and has everything to do with political pandering of the worst sort; up to, and most possibly including the bribing of par-amours and gold diggin harpys by those interested in feathering their political nests...    I say, if the citizens for florida like that kind of political class persecution and hounding; keep votin for the sons and daughters of satan who are doin them dirty things... I've got friends who moved from the very area that his circus is goin in because of this very sort of thing...   On a personal basis, i could care less about what they do in florida... I'm beginnin to believe it is a separate banana republic type country anyway... The carpetbaggers and racebaiters are busy destroying what wuz a pretty good place to live...   All of us on both sides of this little "discussion" about george zimmerman need to get down on our knees and thank Providence that we dont have a states's prosecutor like Angela Corey and a millionaire political zealot like Ben Crump in this state to do these sorts of things...It was once said that "...citizens get the government they deserve..."... We better hope that we don't get what the citizenry of florida have gotten on this one...   I say "...let there be a pox on both houses..." of those who want to keep on tryin george zimmerman in the court of public opinion... Ya better be worried that this sort of justice doesnt come to a place near you... The hide ya save may be your own...  I say, dont be guilty of the things that the political operatives and apparatchiks of florida are clearly guilty of.... Hounding and continually harassing an unpopular and, quite possibly very foolish little man over and over until ya get the result (...and verdict...) ya want...   That aint justice folks; it's the ultimate injustice... It's nothin more than a re-dux of post civil war reconstruction politics where white (...and nearly white...) folks are being persecuted because of their color; and where black folks are being deified because of their color; all for the sake of politics... The whole dammed thing is offensive to me; and it should be to you as well...   leroy
  5.   YEP... I forgot; old age is terrible.....   leroy
  6. If the right people get hold of this one; it's a long way from over... This whole thing is, in fact, at best, a screw-up on the sheriff's deputy's part; and, at worst, an unlawful use of police power... The sheriff aint much better, much less the Cumberland County educrats...   While im on the subject; it seems to me that some pretty interesting and strange things are goin on in Cumberland county around this sheriff's department anyway... Witness the shooting of the four kids that wuz confessed to by an apparent dopehead and his wife... I think this one is a bit too convenient....   As i remember, he entered a guilty plea and apparently is tryin to waive the trial; very interestin, indeed...   As ive opined before; ive seen some things  over around Crab Orchard in clear sight of the interstate that made me very uncomfortable... I dont anymore believe the dopehead killed them kids than i believe that i killed Cock Robin... There seems to be some very wrong things showin up in lots of places over there; but that's just me... After all, im a pretty suspicious old coot....   This one will be very interesting to watch...   suspicious leroy
  7. All:  Just found this c/o our buddies at "Legal Insurrection"....:   http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/11/zimmerman-girlfriend-shopping-interview-for-money-prior-to-911-call/   We might be right on the "choice of women" thing....   leroy
  8.   M1 is dead right.... Why Glock doesn't do this is beyond my understanding...  If Glock decided to do a single stack version of the 26,27,33 or 36; they couldn't make enough of them...   leroy
  9. Bersa and SW are exactly right.... Everybody needs to pay attention to their surroundings, make eye-contact with folks they meet, and; above all else, be armed and willing to use it.... I'm like lots of other folks have opined; i aint goin into an alley, period... anywhere... If ya stay clear of places where the rats are; ya generally dont have to deal with 'em... We can quibble about the causes of this sort of behavior; but that aint the real problem... The problem is that it is, in fact, bein done... If you aint there to be smacked; they aint gonna smack ya...   I'm a relatively old geezer now; and one good punch would probably finish me off... If ya hit the ground; they will probably gut somp ya and probably kill ya if ya have any age on you; that's why i aint gonna have that happen...   keep your powder dry, leroy
  10. Link:  The "Japanese Winchester" thing caught my eye... In the long ago, Browning imported some absolutely beautiful winchester 92 action rifles in 44 mag and 357... They were all 16 inch carbines and were absolute works of art...We have one on the 44 mag carbines and it shoots like a dream.... My guess is that SKB built them for Browning.... If the Winchesters are built by SKB (...or whoever built the Brownings...); they will be a real rifle...  As to the others: ive not shot, but have handled the ubertis.... They are an excellent rifle....   Good luck, leroy
  11. Aint it a Walther copy of a PP?... Dont think ya can separate the barrel from the frame...  Maybe some walther folks can chime in...  I think it strips down by pullin the trigger guard down an the slide releases forward... The barrel and frame stay together as one unit (...i think; that means i aint sure...)...   leroy
  12.   RE:  "...The fryin pan thing..."... My 24 year old son has a friend who beat the livin s**t out of her estranged spouse, left him in the yard for dead, then called her dad still mad at him evidently hopin her dad would finish the job and kill him.... The dad came over, took a look; and told him that he had come over to kill him; but that it looked like the daughter had come close enough to to doin the job without dad's help.... Sometimes, brutality is the answer....   leroy
  13. Red meat for the "children".... Nothin more...   leroy
  14. Im kinda like Punisher on this one...   It would seem that the "Z-Man" has terrible taste in women.... He seems ta find them carpet-baggin harpys and shrill-voiced, sharp toungued shrews way too often.... That seems ta be the only thing that explains his problem with women...   Maybee the Z-man is lookin in the wrong places for 'em... He may need to move across the track or back in the woods a bit and pick him out a good ole home grown country woman....   The Z-man seems harmless enough ta me; except maybe when he's gettin his brains beat out...   Maybe dear sweet Trayvon hit him harder than the prosecution and we know and addled his "woman picking center" and changed his personality...?   Where's Dr. Neil Clark Warren when ya need him?....   leroy, the pre-nuptual counselor and amateur opiner on the human condition
  15.   I would take a look at throwing out the highest velocity and the lowest velocity and then look at the "range"; if the "range" is, indeed the difference between the high and low; then i would look at the data... I would average the remaining velocities and see what i got; then look at the "range"... I think all the powder is burnin in the 7.5 inch barrel...   RE:  The 20 inch barrel question... If the powder is gettin a complete burn in the 7.5 inch barrel; it stands to reason to me that ya get the same thing in the longer barrel... Complete burn = consistent velocities = low "range"... I would always believe that ya would get more consistent velocities out of a rifle; no cylinder-bore misalignment, no bullet jump across a gap, etc....   I would resize the brass all the way and put a heavy roll crimp on the bullets in the crimping groove and see what that does...  My thinkin on the AA #7 and 2400 is that it is just a tad faster than the AA#9 ... quicker pressure peak, quicker acceleration of the lighter bullet... ... I still think the 180 grain bullet is a tad light for the powder...  If ya intend to use a lighter bullet, my guess is that ya need a tad faster powder...   Maybe someone will do a Quickload run and see if my "guess" is on target....   leroy
  16. The "old timers" will tell ya that powders have a characteristic curve with a hump in some cases that will actually show ya a decrease or even "flat line" after an "optimum" (....read that maximum for that particular powder and bullet weight...) is reached...My guess (...and it is a "guess"; that means that i dont know for sure...) is that you have hit it for the 180 grain bullet at 22.6...   I would be willing to bet that it would keep goin up a bit if the bullet weight wuz increased (...say to 200,  225, 240, even 300...)... AA#9 is a pretty slow burnin powder and the slow burners evidently need a lot of resistance to do their best... My guess is that it's all burnin; but the bullet resistance needs to go up...  That means in english that ya are at the maximum velocity for this particular bullet / powder combination  (...i think...)....   Havin said all that; 1424 fps aint too shabby out of a 7.5 barrel... My guess is that to get the factory (...UMC....) velocities; ya need a bit faster powder... I would try AA#7 or 2400... Maybe some of the guys who do the "QuickLoad" program thing can chime in here... Take a look at the Alliant reloader guide on line... For a 200 grain bullet; the "recipe" is 24.0 grains of 2400 and a cci 300 primer for 1589 fps (...pistol load....)...   leroy
  17. This has been an interestin thread; with lots of stuff to think about...   I tend to look at the historical and here's what i see....   The 1911 semiauto pistol wuz the replacement for that greatest of indian war killers the colt single action army...  It wuz birthed at a time when the good ole us army needed to upgrade it's handgun arsenal at a time when there were troopers in the army and marine corps who were genuine steely eyed grim reapers who well knew what a handgun wuz for and knew exactly how to use it; and those troopers were in both the officer and enlisted ranks...    The semiauto pistol wuz "the next new thing"; just as the machine gun wuz at that time; and the army wuz interested in exploring the practicability of a hard use handgun for calvary use (....remember, this wuz the time when the calvary wuz still the king of battle...)...   The military well remembered the poor performance of the 38 caliber pistols in the Philippine insurrection and many of the old time troopers would not give their beloved single action armies up in that best of old time killers, the 45 Colt....     It's no accident that the military ultimately adopted a semiauto pistol in a 45 caliber; simply because it was a shortened version of the old 45 Colt....  The pistol was a success with men who actually knew about killin (...unlike many of the "so called pistol experts" of today...)... The old timers liked the external hammer and the quick reload of the 1911... The rest, as they say, is history....   The fact is that the 1911 came along at exactly the right time in history... It wasn't a "God Inspired" genius thing; it was the next step in pistol design...  It wuz made in a caliber that wuz a proven killer in the right hands...Simply put, it wuz an updated 45 Colt ALA the old time single action army calvary model from 1873...   The 1911 has reigned supreme on the battlefields and in the hands of the "real steely eyed killers" for over 100 years now... Its only real challengers are the utilitarian plastic pistols made by the pesky Austrians at Glock and the lesser children that are copies of this ground-breaking design... The next classic will be the Glock in whatever flavor ya like.... I tend to think that the 45 ACP is a helluva idea in a Glock; along with the 10 mm; but that's just me...   I'll end this little musing by sayin that the 1911 is a great thing... We've got several of em... I used to carry one... But it's just a "thing" man; as the ole hippy would say.... My only problem with them now; is that they are just too expensive to carry...The next big thing is the Glock; and it's here now...   All this from an old time blue steel and walnut S & W and Colt snob who never saw an N frame smith, a colt single action, or a colt 1911 he didnt like....There aint none of 'em i aint carried... I like 'em all....   Havin said that, all of our blue steel and walnut guns are in honored retirement (...with the exception of a special 629 my 24 year old carries; he just wont give 'em up....), occasonally pulled out to look at an praise the greatness of on warm, sunny days, shown to dear friends and admirers on special occasions...   The "working and carryin" guns that protect the person and the house are the big and little glocks....The others are just collectors pieces from another, greater time and place....   leroy, the 1911 admirer and glock user....
  18. This is interestin stuff...  It seems to me that everybody is pretty well sick of the "Bloomberg paternalistic plantation"; and i think that is a good thing.... Maybe the son of satan will go broke (....but i doubt it....) backing this stupid stuff...    Here's hopin, leroy
  19. I like it  man!!!  The problem is that it's "little brother" is in the driveway...  2000 wrangler sahara, 3 1/2 lift, 35 inch cepeks, american mags, hard top, 4.0 inline, 5 speed...  I love 'em......   leroy
  20.   Jeff:  I think they are hard to beat... They have a steel grip frame like the old flattops did... You will enjoy it...   Have fun.... leroy
  21. Jeff:  We've been shootin ruger single actions since the seventies... They are the "best of the best" when it comes to durability... I've put thousands of heavy loads thru both 41mag and 45 colt blackhawks... We're still shootin them and there have been zero problems...   As to the 357 thing; if i wuz a young man and had good eyes and the vaquero wuz at the same price; i would take it in a minute... I like the "old timey" look and feel (...the vaquero will have a steel grip frame...)... If i wuz older (...im a geezer -- now 67....), i would take the blackhawk because of the adjustable sights... They are just easier to see...   The down side, with the older blackhawks, at least, is that they have an aluminum grip frame... It makes the revolver feel a bit different; but it's nothin too big to worry about...   The downside of the vaquero is findin out what loads shoot to point of aim... Ya can simply adjust the sights on the blackhawk to the point of aim...   My guess is that the vaqueros are regulated to point of aim with factory ammo; but i dont know that for sure...   Anyway, ya cant go wrong with either one... They are both great choices... You will enjoy them thoroughly... Why not "collect 'em all"... That's what always seemed to happen to us... We've got a safe full of 'em.....   Have fun, leroy
  22. Just ran some 170 grain hard cast loads in 38 special cases thru our 357 vaquero sheriff... Eleven grains of 2400 (...my guess is about 1050 to 1100 fps...); pretty much an old time 38-44 hi speed load... It shot dead to point of aim...  Excellent load from the "old days"...   leroy
  23. For some reason, i think, (...that means i dont know for sure...) that this boy is facing misdemeanor charges... I want to say its a "class three misdemeanor" (...whatever that  is...) for the snake thing...  Mabee some of our wildlife guys can speak to this one....   leroy
  24. We know some of the involved parties in this one (...thankfully, from a far off... no visits to our home or to theirs...)... The thought is that the recent National Geographic TV segment on this ole boy provided the "evidence" for the charges... This one will be great to watch...   The real sad truth of this story is that it "....will give great opportunity for the haters of God to blaspheme Him..." and paint Christianity as something it simply is not... This stuff, is at best, misguided ignorance; and at worst, a trip down the lane of sensationalism and nuttiness for imagined fame a few dollars... My vote is for the latter....   It would appear to me that "snake handling"  religious observances could, in fact, be self-limiting... If i wuz a committed Darwinist, i would say, let "natural selection" and "survival of the fittist" take it's course here...   I cant wait for what's next here....   leroy
  25. Ill buy this on a general basis:   My observation and disgust with this little snippit is in at least two directions... I'm kinda like 6.8 and Mike; state-sponsored counterfeiting of bogus goods (...if it can, indeed, be proven....) seems to be a federal criminal espionage related genuine crime.... I find that curious that this has evidently moved from bein a civil issue to a federal criminal issue...   I can buy the argument that counterfeiting currency, bonds, financial instruments, wire-fraud, bogus cash transfers, money-laundering is a bad, potentially disastrous act; especially when it is state sponsored... I'll also buy the idea that lack of adequate enforcement of bans on "intellectual property" and "trademarked" goods" can, in fact, hurt genuine small operators and entrapeneurs from a financial and "intellectual property" perspective...   I simply dont buy the idea that this should somehow be high on the list of enforcement tasks for the federal gubmt and that the penalties should be as severe as we've evidently legislated them to be...  Given the facts in this particular case; evidently it is not the case; because the company guys did all the leg work...    Havin said all that, take the time to do a google search of "raids on counterfeit items" and take a look at the amount of stories that are listed... There appears to be lots of federal investigation of this stuff goin on...   Bein the unkind, suspicious sort that i tend to be; i could easily allow my feeble mind to wander and i could begin to start thinkin that it is both a lot easier and a lot safer to hunt down and prosecute vendors and flea market sellers than it is to go out and round up hardened killers...   In my mind, at least, the real problem is that things have gotten so bad that a geezer like me and lots of other otherwise sensible folks tend to think the worst about the motives of gubmt, even when it may be doin the right things for the right reasons...  I think that is the biggest problem that we are facin in this country in the citizenry vs gubmt arena, and its a shame...   The second issue is that you can rest assured that the criminalization and upping the penalties for this "intellectual property" and "trademark" thing wasn't emplaced to help the individual inventor, artist, or entrepreneur... It wuz emplaced as a bone thrown to the military-industrial sector and the hollywood artist and entertainment sector... It had nothin to do with protecting inventors and individual artist... It had everything to do with currying the favor of big political donors... I simply dont like that one on general principle... The way i see things is that, sadly, everything is for sale... Could it be that gubmt muscle is for sale here?.... Its both a terrible and interestin thing to think about...   When everything is for sale, it's generally a short step to the next sale; and it could well affect you adversely... The sad fact is that we have moved far afield from the original intent of all these laws and have tailored them to help the "favorite sons" at a pretty good cost to the general citizenry...     leroy
