  1. I've put a couple on and consider it the only way to go if your estimated time in the place can justify the additional cost over shingles. IMO, it is an upgrade and the value of the building should reflect that but I can not substantiate this. Have confidence in the installer. Make certain he uses long screws. I built a 14 x 50 addition to my barn last year and my roof steel cost was just over $600. Screws, cap and rake add up. Give Jason a call at Tennessee Metal Roofing in Sweetwater. 423 351 1141 oldogy Went back and read the comments about installation. I did this addition and have done another full roof and several small shed jobs by my self. Never get on a wet or damp roof. Don't ask.
  2. Thanks for asking. I have wondered the same thing about TN. I served on a GJ in FL many years ago. A GJ involvement there, at that time, was required for indictment in capital cases and cases involving public officials, malfeasance, etc. If memory serves me right, all other cases were at the discretion of the DA. FWIW, the GJ was "on call" for a six month period and I believe we served about once a month. oldogy
  3. Five of the six are admitted socialists............What can we expect! And who elects this trash!!!!!!!!!
  4. Another waste of the legislative time. Another attempt to regulate the sheeple. oldogy
  5. Jeep comes to mind. Cherokee or Wrangler, depending on comforts you require. Great aftermarket support, parts and other. oldogy
  6. So as to not hijack the current thread about the guy who non lethally defended his property in New England. This is from the Orlando Sentinel about an elderly widower in Daytona Beach who shot and killed an intruder. The chief of police commended the guy for doing what the court system could not do, take the guy off the streets. oldogy Elderly widower shoots, kills intruder Daytona: Elderly widower shoots, kills intruder during burglary in Daytona Beach - OrlandoSentinel.com
  7. We could do a whole lot worse than Corker. He ain't perfect but then neither am I. I am sure there will be more entrants to this race. Be very carefull out there in what we wish for, what we vote for. oldogy
  8. Extremely ugly win, if you can call it that, but the wife is happy over the outcome of the sugar bowl. oldogy
  9. I was faced with a similar situation years ago when I lived in FL. I owned 26 acres zoned agriculture that adjoined the city that wanted to annex us. I headed a petition and threatened suit and the city backed off. No way was I going to give up a country lifestyle, succumb to cityfied laws and regulations, not to mention taxes without a fight. oldogy
  10. Why we need single item legislation.......Damn these rambling bills where they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. oldogy
  11. Sounds like you taught her right. oldogy
  12. Well, since this old thread has been revived, I'll put the post hole digger on the Deere and punch a four feet deep hole. When that hole is full, I'll punch another. Big advantage to living in the country with no close neighbors. Think I have my ducks in a row on most all this SHTF stuff but it helps to keep running the plans. oldogy
  13. Welcome neighbor. Yeah, there are several lady types on here, you're not alone. oldogy
  14. No great loss to humanity. oldogy
  15. Love the P51. A couple years back there was one at the air show at the Athens airport. I had a chance to get up close and look it over. A while later it made a high speed low altitude pass down the runway with the Merlin singing away. Oh, what music. Quite a few years ago I bought a collectable Thunderbird, as in car, from a guy in Florida who owned a P51. The car and the P51 were painted with the same silver. From the list below, I recognize the name of the guy I bought it from as Shelby Burch from Winter Garden, FL. oldogy
  16. Congratulations to the son. It is always nice to be able to brag on an offspring. That probably shot your shooting budget to pieces. oldogy
  17. Not to change the flavor of the thread but I've seen some very capable Cherokees. Lock 'em, lift 'em, add tires and they'll go. oldogy
  18. I just registered. We are on the third Jeep in the family. The wife drives a 2005 Rubicon Unlimited Sahara Edition. She won't drive, is not interested in anything else. We got into Jeeps looking for something to tow behind the motorhome and she won't leave. Highly successful site, look below. The owner of that site started a TN site as he had plans to move here but that fell through and his TN site failed. I do believe a well run TN site will do well. Did I see a lighter version option there like you gave us here? oldogy The Florida Jeepers Offroad Association Index
  19. They hang around my place and I see them all hours of the day. The dog wakes me all hours of the night telling me there are deer near the house. There is a fresh rub within 100' of the house. The UPS guy yesterday said he had a buck about run into him in my road leading into the house and that was about 14:00 hours. I watched a small buck following three does for about 15 minutes this morning about 09:00. So, they are moving at all hours. No, I don't hunt them.
  20. As a property tax payer, this makes sense to me. In my younger years I may have applied. But, consider the Sheriff office is political and political strength runs on numbers. Any volunteer back up force would possibly prevent him from increasing his paid staff. Then you have the huge liability issue as a civilian. I just doubt if it is a popular thing in most areas. oldogy
  21. Although I was a bit over three YO at the time of the event, I remember the war and the feelings, the hatred toward the Japs and Germans. My grandfather was a first generation German American and had he not been an established successful community member would have most likely been run out of town. The anniversary of Pearl Harbor and many WW11 events were remembered, some with reverence and some events even celebrated. oldogy
  22. A very timely reminder, OS. As an old guy who has voted every year since I first voted against Kennedy, I can tell you quite a few times I've voted against the lesser evil. And one year I voted my belief and threw a vote away on Ross Perot. See what that election did for us. There have been few candidates that I've voted for but several I've voted against. Get used to the fact that you're not going to "fall in love with a candidate" unless you're a flaming liberal and vote for the blue state leader like so many did in '08. The future of America rides on this election. Can America survive free or will we further our directions along the dismal path to socialism where the misery is shared by all. oldogy
  23. The quote below is from one of my favorite authors. She was ahead of her time. Fitting to this discussion. I think someone on this forum uses the quote in their signature line. oldogy There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals...when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Ayn Rand (Atlas Shrugged - 1957)
  24. Oh, I bet that does hurt. I did essentially the same thing on a double garage door one time.........Not the smartest thing I have done.
  25. Many safety violations here, some mentioned above. The grandfather is already dying a thousand deaths over this accident and will continue to do so. oldogy
