Only suggestion is to NOT do what I did. I was in Germany and had NEVER ridden a motorcycle in my life. The closest I ever came to riding a motorcycle was listening to Arlo Guthrie singing his song from Alice's Restaurant, The Motorcycle Song, lol. Anyway a friend of mine had a big Honda Gold Wing, a big one. and he was selling it! So i made arrangements to buy it and since we were both on the Police bowling team, we decide dot transfer it at the lanes one evening. This was in Germany, by the way. We met and he had it leaning on the kickstand. He asked me if I remembered how the gears worked, and I had no freaking clue, so I said refresh my memory. He replied this side pedal 3 up and 2 down or something like that. I already knew where the brakes, clutch and throttle were, so I pulled the bike up, put it in gear and eased across the parking lot, onto the road leading to off base. I got on the autobahn and drove it home with no real problems, though it got a little dicey at times. The Germans made us get a license to drive in Germany plus a special one for motorcycles, but they let the military figure out how to do that, so they required one to successfully complete a Motorcycle Safety Course operated by I think it was the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. There were three courses (Beginners, Intermediate and advanced), taught by experienced riders offered a few times a year. As it turns out the Beiginners course wasn't scheduled for a few months, but the Advanced course was offered in a couple weeks. So I signed up for that one, figuring I had 2 weeks to prepare. So I rode it back and forth to work every day, about 24 miles i guess, and on the weekends I rode it more. IAs I rolled into the place where they had it, I was feeling pretty good. I mean, I had 2 weeks experience. Well there was a lot of classroom time with instruction and testing, which i barely passed, then it was ride time! They had traffic cones set up in a big parking lot and one had to navigate the course without hitting any traffic cones and not putting one's foot on the ground,, Those two things were automatic failures as was dropping the bike! When my turn came I was pretty nervous, especially when the instructor asked me why I brought such a big bike to this course. All the other advanced riders had way smaller motorcycles. Well I made it, not sure how as i had no clue how to ride and zero experience, lol, but I did it, somehow. As he signed my license and handed it to me he said, well you passed, barely, but you're not really safe to ride, lol. PLEASE PRACTICE IN A SAFE PLACE! Well I took his advice and soon I was able to safely navigate the small roads in the little German villages as well as cruise the autobahn at high speed. Sorry to steal your thread, but I thought some might appreciate how stupid I was.

Not an expert here, but a recent convert after a LOT of study. I've got a Holosun 507k-x2 Green on my EDC Sig P-365XL and the same model in red on my backup XL. I haven't put whole lot of rounds with them yet but I have shot them several times and I am impressed with how my shooting has improved. I was concerned in making my mind up, that my shooting, other than recreational, would be up sudden and up close. I didn't see how a RDS would help much in those emergency situations when point and shoot is most likely called for. I think the realization that just because i had a RDS on my guns didn't necessarily mean I couldn't still point and shoot, or even co witness the iron sights. The 507k, while it replaces the rear sight, has a notch that lines up pretty good with the front sight. I've tested this at the range and I've found it to be as accurate as I am, plus, I could still point and shoot. The Xray front sight on my Sig is bright enough, even in daylight, to acquire it through the holosun. I don't think it slows me down any at all. Speaking of speed, using the RDS does slow me down a bit right now as I'm not used to it. I've already noticed improvement and expect to improve more as I practice.

Lloyd’s of London Won’t Renew Insurance for NRA Directors
Defender replied to btq96r's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
In 1975 I had auto insurance with Lloyds of London. I never had to use it, but back then I had heard of them, but always about insuring big things, like ships and airplanes...I thought it was neat to have car insurance through them, lol I hope the NRA directors do what's been needed for a long time, but Ive seen no indication of their willingness to do so...especially not since Ollie left, or perhaps , was pushed out. As far as the NRA, I haven't seen any evidence of the directors doing so... -
I didnt notice that until I had already replied, lol.

Love this! I watch most of the series on the History channel and others like it. But they are overburdened with commercials and less content, so i record them on the DVR and watch them at my leisure and FF thru the commercials. I had not realized just how cutthroat the food business was!

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Defender replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I read the first book a while back.. My local library (Nashville Metro)finally got in most of the rest of the series so i recently finished Indian Country, just started Wildfire and have Collapse already checked out and waiting to read next! Sad to say they dont have Crisis yet. I'll be jonesing about that one when i get about midway through Collapse, lol. I love his books. Some of them do get a tad repetitive and kinda overemphasize some of the liberal agenda we have now, but I am still loving his books. -
I've known many goo security officers that did their job professionally and well., with the right mindset. I've also known a few, and read about many more who, like you said were LEO rejects and wannabes. The latter two give security a bad name.

What did you say? Haha, just kidding. I didn't understand the equipment you mentioned but I get it. Thanks for the input. Good food for thought.

While I didn't 'get' the prewashed jeans thing and especially the ones now that already have holes in them, the distressed finish on guns is something I do like. To each his/her own. Also, its not a matter of not wanting to take the time to break in the jeans kind of thing...its the look one likes. I've even thought about if i won the big lottery, I might get a new truck with all the bells and whistles then have it 'customized' by one of the specialty car shops, not only to add safes for my guns, but also to make the outside look old and worn...I have the Sig 'We The People' 1911 with a distressed stainless steel finish on the whole exterior of the gun. Its beautiful, to me.

I REALLY want to get into ham. I put it off for years because of code. Then it was because of not being able to afford decent equipment. Im looking to retire in a few years, so I'm at the point now that i need to decide what equipment i want and start buying it. I'd like to get a good multiband base unit and a good versatile multiband handheld. Hopefully I can find something that will work for me being a newbie as well as allowing me to grow with it and not becoming limited later and need to upgrade. Once I retire, I doubt upgrading will be a viable option. If any hams on here have suggestions, Id appreciate their input. At present I have an older Grundig Satellite 700 Receiver that receives many bands of radio, and a handheld Baofeng Dual Band FM Transceiver and a multitude of scanners, both handheld and portable handheld.

Yes, I listed my stolen gun on there and several years later a guy called me asking about it. He had saw it on one of the other for sale sites and asked the dude for the SN. He ran the number on stolengunz and it told him I had reported it stolen, and gave my number. It spooked him enough that he didn't go thru with the sale, after I confirmed it was stolen and not recovered. He gave me cell number of the guy who had it. I contacted metro PD detectives. My original detective who handled the case was long retired, and the one i spoke with was only after i contacted a commander as no one would even respond to me. The detective pretty much said there was nothing he could do....lazy is what I think. Sometimes I wish I would have handled it myself, but Im afraid that may have not ended well. Anyway, yes the site is legit and it works.

MODERATORS: I have a 1911 that was stolen years ago, that has great sentimental value. I posted it on stolengunz and got a hit on it but metro PD detective was flat out lazy and didnt pursue it. Do we have a stolen guns topic on here? Do you think we could/should?

TFA analysis of permitless carry
Defender replied to Grayfox54's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
With both a Republican legislature and governor, you'd think we'd have true Constitutional carry as well as taking out of TCA that ridiculous 'intent to go armed' language. What am I missing? -
Dont ask, lol. Seriously, deals can be found but ya gotta look hard. Problem is, being so new, not many shops have them yet...
-
I like them for some odd reason...My favorite of all my guns is a Sig 1911 We The People edition.

Yeah me too. Aren’t their prices a little high generally?

The Holosun Store -- buyer beware
Defender replied to Whisper's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Crazy question, but i think the obvious may not always be the right answer, but is the Holosun Store on Amazon run by the Holsun Company>? -
The Holosun Store -- buyer beware
Defender replied to Whisper's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I tested mine today and it works. Need to play around with it some more, but the green reticle seem different from my red one, and I mean aside from the obvious, lol. Could be my eyes and it isn’t mounted yet either. I have a spare 365XL without an optic, which is the reason I wanted this one, but now Im obsessing over the Spectre, so I might just wait til I get that and put it on that. -
The Holosun Store -- buyer beware
Defender replied to Whisper's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Amazon is so damn easy to order from and usually great prices. I've seen may stories like this...makes me afraid to order anything of substance from them. I also hate how a search turns up shady results. I just picked up a new Holosun HE507k-GR-x2. Didn't trust Amazon, Optics Planet farts around with their availability, so ordered it from Kenzies Optics. Got a 10% discount so got a great price, free shipping and a really fast delivery. Haven't tested it yet, but looks really great. -
Ended up not going today. Only thing Im really interested in is Sig P-365XL Spectre and I don't they have those yet...If anyone sees one today or any day, please let me know.
-
Man, I’m obsessing over this, lol. I want one! Of course, no one has them yet, but I can hardly wait. I’m going to save my Green Holosun, due in Monday, to put on this one when I can find one.

Thank you. I think I've been there before.
