  1. I just saw this article in miltary.com: New Type of Commander May Avoid Katrina-Like Chaos Does one have to be a paranoid conspiracy theorist to think that this could be used in ways not ostensibly proposed in the plan? One thing I would be afraid of is something akin to the gun grab in the wake of the Katrina disaster. Some states have passed laws disallowing civil/police agencies to disarm citizens in the face of a disaster, but could the FEDERAL military do so? Well, usually Fed law trumps State law...The Dual Status Commanders would apparently be National Guard, under the control of the State, but when Federalized, they then become commanded by the president...I'm just leery of any extra power given to the Federal government not specifically allowed by our Constitution. It already has WAAAAYYY too much power.
  2. I thought I heard him say it was his own fault...
  3. After looking again at the Colt 1911-22, this time on M1911.org, I realized that it apppears to be foreign made and imported by Umarex...also, Red Eagle, Hipower and Il Duce, I read that the Sig IS actually made by GSG, and just is branded by Sig...so I'm leaning towards the GSG...
  4. No, but I'm wanting a 1911-22 of some kind...I've looked at Sig, GSG, Chiappa so far...can't decide which one I want. I think they all come with a 10 round mag but the Colt I just looked at online says it comes with a 12 rounder...
  5. I'd be really surprised if he does. Seems like they just try their best to indoctrinate the students to their point of view rather than letting them have their own opinion. A paper should be graded on the merits of the research and how well it's presented, not on whether the teacher agrees.
  6. When I was a cop in the USAF and armed with a sidearm, we carried the Beretta 9mm, loaded and chambered, plus an extra magaizine of ammo, total of 30 rounds, which was an improvement over the 18 rounds of .38 Special that we carried in our revolvers before they were replaced with the M-9s. No BUGs were allowed, and I don't know of anyone that carried one. But then backup officers were only a few minutes away, if that, in most cases, and more with heavier firepower than sidearms were also able to respond to a scene in minutes. Now, as a civilian (man I HATE describing myself that way, lol) I am in a dfferent situation. NO backup can be counted on to help me until after the crisis is over, when local PD may respond. And although I have high confidence in my guns that I carry, I also realize that they can fail. So for me, a BUG is not just for more ammo, but also in case of failure of primary, or if someone gets close enough to take away my primary. It's been done to me before in drills, by people who were either stronger or better trained that I, so I realize it could happen as well in real life. Paranoid? Maybe, but just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that someone isn't really out to get you.
  7. Obiously you started a ****storm, lol. You did impress me with this post though. I respect a man that can admit he was wrong and can learn from it. I'm 56 and still learning. Everytime I think i know it all, somebody or something humbles me and I learn yet ANOTHER lesson.
  8. Well if Dollywood is posted, then one wouldn't NEED a gun there, since we all know that a criminal would certainly follow the law, right?
  9. I agree. VERY well written book.
  10. Welcome! Don't quote me on this, but here in Tennessee we don't have the kind of income tax that most staes have, so many times, when our state legislature passes a new law, they allow for fees to recoup some of the costs of enforcing or covering the costs of the law. I think that is why its so high compard to your old state. As a matter of fact, seems like I read somewhere that they are required to mention the costs in the actual bills before they even pass.
  11. Ditto! Although I do expect a gun store owner and employees to be knowledgeable, maybe more so than I am, I cannot abide a "you're a dumbass and we are smart" kind of attitude that one often gets from gun store staff(even if it is sometimes true, lol). Dave doesnt have this attitude and he's hired the right kind of people who also have good customer service savvy. The whole crew down there are good. They each have their specialty niche, or areas where they are each most knowledgeable about, but all are overall knowledgeable about what they sell and if they don't know something, they don't lie about it. With at least 7 or 8 gun shops in my general area, there's a good reason D & T get most of my business. P.S. Dave, about that discount...(LOL kidding) Rightwinger has GOT to stop putting those 'buy this gun' spells on me, lol. I can't afford to keep buying guns at this rate.
  12. Good for you, man. If Walgreens reacts negatively, it's their loss! If they do, post it here, so we can make it known how we don't like them and wont shop there. I'm serious about this, I would stop going there at all if they do something bad.
  13. I use my daughter as an excuse to see all these kinds of movies. She's 12 now and starting to want to see other kinds now, lol. Id feel like a perv going to a kid movie without her, lol.
  14. As a former cop, and a current law and order kinda guy, I'm not even gonna get into the original arrest issue. I almost always tend to support the police...BUT, if this police ticketing harassment happened in my community, I would make it a crusade to get whoever ordered this fired for misconduct and wasting the taxpayers money.
  15. Drat! Found out AGAIN!
  16. These guys are armed and dangerous....I'm telling the truth here...these guys will TAKE your money, and all you get in return is guns and good service...and maybe the odd cup of some weird lukewarm beverage they call NAVY coffee. Several times I went in there and they pulled a gun on me...only way to escape was by giving them my money...and taking the guns. This has happened to me there not once, but SEVERAL times! BEWARE!!! LMAO.
  17. When I worked for Opryland in the 90's, there was a "Roy Acuff" gun Collection, part of which was on display in the park...allegedly he had quite a collection. Wonder what happened to it?
  18. I bought a Bodyguard .380 from D&T in February 2011, and the laser worked fine when I got it and also on the few occasions I tested it later. However, when I finally fired the gun in early June, the laser had become VERY difficult to activate...so hard in fact, that I had to turn the gun over and use hard pressure with my fingernail to get it to turn on or off... Nathan at D&T suggested that I deal directly with S&W myself as they would likely give me better service than through a dealer. I filed my online request with S&W about 3 weeks ago, but didnt hear anything at all. One week ago, I went back to their web site and filed another request. Yesterday, I received an email from them with an attached printable Fedex shipping label and instructions on how to return the weapon to S&W. I went to Fedex and the label was for Priority 2 day shipping, with which Fedex includes the box. Shipped it out yesterday to S&W on their dime. I'm not sure if it took 3 weeks for them to respond or if their was an internet glitch with the first request and it only took one week... I'll post an update when I hear from them again.
  19. I have this one and I love it! The price is pretty good here too. I saw one at a recent gun show for twice this price. Gerber Military Tactical LMF II A.S.E.K. Knife IN STOCK!
  20. I am hoping that it will come out that Traver is up to his neck in the Gun walking hullaballooo. I am also hoping that all of you write to Alexander and Corker. Cant hurt and who knows, it might actually help.
  21. I had noticed that Sears wasnt posted, since thats the way I go in the mall on the rare occasions that I do. I have never seen any postings at the parking lot entrances...they must be pretty small postings....are postings that are small and cannot be easily read by moving traffic legal postings? Lawyer sized small print should NOT be legal but ...
  22. A google search turns up the following: ATF Online - Firearms - Frequently Asked Questions - Unlicensed Persons Q: What constitutes residency in a State? The State of residence is the State in which an individual is present; the individual also must have an intention of making a home in that State. A member of the Armed Forces on active duty is a resident of the State in which his or her permanent duty station is located. If a member of the Armed Forces maintains a home in one State and the member’s permanent duty station is in a nearby State to which he or she commutes each day, then the member has two States of residence and may purchase a firearm in either the State where the duty station is located or the State where the home is maintained. An alien who is legally in the United States is considered to be a resident of a State only if the alien is residing in that State and has resided in that State continuously for a period of at least 90 days prior to the date of sale of the firearm. See also Item 5, “Sales to Aliens in the United States,†in the General Information section of this publication. [18 U.S.C. 921(, 922(a) (3), and 922((3), 27 CFR 478.11] I would imagine that with Ft Campbell so close this has to have come up many times. I think one of the local gun shops should know the right answer.
  23. I guess my coworker must have gotten the "arrests of the Westboro clan" from the mention that they were led away or escorted away by the police...
  24. The antis don't have to pass a sweeping bill, or try to. They will start with little things...treaties, rule interpretations, minor violations of our right to bear arms... I think something big will eventually happen...either independently or even perpetrated by the liberals, some mass killing of innnocents that will give them an excuse to write up some kind of new Patriot Act, that will gut the constitution, in the name of security...THAT will be the beginning of the end of our freedom. Was it Ben Franklin who said, ""Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."? Some say the current iteration of the Patriot Act is a slippery slope...but I suppose that all depends on who is using it, and for what. When they decide that they can get away with using it against citizens under the guise of anti terror...well that reminds me of Germany in the 30's and early 40's. As far as this Senate is concerned, be afraid, be very afraid.
  25. What has happened with this? How did it turn out? A co worker today told me that some Westboro protesters were arrested, but the evening news I watched didnt mention that...all they said was that a LOT of people showed up, lol. Anyone know for sure the details?
