  1. I switched from gas to charcoal years ago specifically to cook brisket after sampling some in West TX. I've never gotten around to trying it, but my favorite marinated grilled chicken, porterhouse steaks, and even hot dogs are even better after the switch. I don't adhere to the "might as well cook on the stove if you're gonna use gas" philosophy, but there is something about smoke.
  2. Yeah I wouldn’t want to work at ARDOT right now. Although they may soon have a few positions available.
  3. Supposedly seven or eight months, but it’s none of my business if someone else has antibodies. How long is a vaccine good for?
  4. What if that 30% has antibodies and doesn’t need a vaccine?
  5. The treehuggers have been saying this for as long as I can remember, and most of them lean way left. Here’s an example https://www.biologicaldiversity.org/programs/population_and_sustainability/climate/ They start off by saying we need a smaller carbon footprint as well as fewer feet. Down about paragraph 19, the article talks about how fertility rates have slowed, but progress in this area has been hampered by reductions in family planning. They inevitably argue that the US is the worst offender and the world is about to end.
  6. Great, the Handmaid's Tale may actually come true.
  7. Yep. My best friend growing up went over the Highway 51 Hatchie River bridge 30 minutes before it collapsed back 30 or so years ago. I think that one killed seven or eight people. Also, my wife and I went over the 40 bridge over the Arkansas River in Oklahoma the day before it collapsed. That one was the result of a barge collision, though.
  8. Wow, so now they are going to re-inspect the I-55 bridge. If they find something, we will have a genuine catastrophe. I shot a match in AR this weekend and Friday afternoon, eastbound traffic into Memphis was a total disaster. I had planned to come back via Helena, AR after seeing the melee, but was pleasantly surprised that Saturday night traffic was light and we sailed right through I-55 like nothing was even wrong. The phone traffic app didn’t lie.
  9. I don't doubt working from home will become much more prevalent, but I have already experienced a couple downsides. Susan is now working from home and has limited access to things that used to be right outside her door. I call Susan (who is across town or in another city) and ask her if she can put her hands on XYZ item. Now she works from home, so she calls Johnny, who is not in our department and really has no idea WTH Susan is talking about and doesn't really have time for her, but he is on location. Johnny may or may not give Susan accurate info. Plus, Susan's home internet is not as good as it was at work. After a while, I learn who Johnny is and why there is a delay and sometimes just bypass Susan. She cannot do some of the odds and ends that she used to do and is a little less valuable. If I worked from home, the fact that someone in India or the Philippines can possibly also do my job from home would be in the back of my mind.
  10. I would take the 30K in a flash.
  11. I’ll take OSHA/code enforcement over Bolshevik construction engineers.
  12. Joseph Stalin could have it built in three months. Of course he would first round up OSHA and code enforcement and give them all 9mm headaches.
  13. Yeah, looks pretty fresh.
  14. Paying for it is not the issue - the current administration comes out with $2 trillion spending plans like they are chump change. The problem is that truly needed infrastructure upgrades will be smothered by green new deal type wish lists.
  15. Infrastructure has little to do with roads and bridges nowadays.
  16. It is definitely a perishable skill.
  17. Maybe he intended to shoot them if they continued what they were doing or followed through on something they had threatened. There isn't enough video available to fully understand the incident. At what point is it ok to point a gun at someone? Cooper's rule mentions not pointing your gun at anything you are not willing to destroy, but that's not the same as not pointing "unless you were going to shoot it." If you never point a gun at someone unless you are going to fire, there would be a lot more police shootings. How many crimes are avoided by some civilian displaying or pointing a gun at a bad guy without firing a shot? Some practicioner may be able to wait at low ready or even remain holstered and deal with an immediate threat, but not everyone is able to put that off. This guy does not look like a practitioner, but that doesn't disqualify him from being able to defend himself.
  18. Been a while since Attack of the Clones, but this is still relevant:
  19. Darth Vader shoots an Open gun at a USPSA match...
  20. I have seen Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Nothing else. My nephew loses his mind every time I remind him of this.
  21. I got a shot yesterday and my shoulder is sore but I have no other symptoms. Not a Covid shot, a cortisone shot for a lingering rotator cuff problem. At least that's what they said...........................
  22. I suspect that some of the victims of the riots in the past year might not agree with your first sentence. The problem is that nobody truly knows what situation to expect whenever they walk out the front door. Anything can happen anywhere, anytime.
  23. A little off topic, but somewhat related. Lawlessness in Memphis has increased in the past year, especially on the interstate. Just about every time I am on the interstate, I get the paint blown off my doors by someone (in cars, not on crotch rockets) doing WAY over 100 mph, probably 120-130. I am used to drivers occasionally blowing by me even though I'm doing 75-80, but this is something new and completely over the top. The cops' hands are tied due to no-pursuit policies. I'm not sure what flavor of d-bag thinks he can stop interstate traffic for a bunch of 4-wheelers, but I imagine anyone who ran afoul of this group would want more than a revolver. https://wreg.com/news/dangerous-reckless-driver-records-what-he-calls-wild-funeral-procession-on-i-55/
