  1. I'd like to share my thoughts as someone who has had some professional training, but even more so as someone that has been in the Medical year for more than 4 decades.   Randy gave some sage advice here.   No...rendering care to someone that just tried to kill me would not be my first priority, nor would you be held negligent by not rendering that care. (This doesn't mean there wouldn't be a civil suit brought against you...there usually is at the very least, that consideration...but that isn't the time or place to let it enter your mind.)     We were taught (Tac Med Course / CONTOMS directed) that you 1st secure the area and all hostiles when the shooting appears to be over. Cover the badguy until they are secured/cuffed. Then and only then can EMS even enter the scene. We were taught that even when moving in to render care to a downed officer to first and foremost secure their hands, remove their weapons, and while another individual covered you, render care to them...for the very reason Randy mentioned above.   When a standing person is hit/shot, they may well drop their blood pressure... low pressure = lack of cerebral perfusion...they hit the ground...returning their cerebral blood flow...back into the fight. I've seen it happen as an EMT, I've seen it happen in the ER I work in. (obviously not a shooting...but unconscious back to full blown fight mode in a heartbeat).   Morally, of course you don't want someone to die, even if they were trying to kill or main you. You want to stop that violent behavior. If they die as a consequence of their bad behavior then it's on them. Their choice.     But I urge everyone to seek and obtain professional training whenever you can. A wise man once told be that "Training needs to be Recent,Relevant, and Realistic". It's that training that may well keep you alive and allow you the luxury of discussing the merits of said training with your friends.   I wouldn't let anything deter me from seeking professional training. I can only see positives from it.   Just my :2cents: worth.
  2. OK KahrMan...I raise you one George Clintion! :woohoo:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJvjWh2Vhu4
  3.     I too think this would be a great idea..and Thanks for considering it David.   Just an observation, and being a caster and handloader I know I'm biased...but I read a lot of posts where folks are asking great questions about getting started in such. We have some incredible subject matter experts (Dolomite / Gordon comes to mind)  and experienced members (Leroy perhaps?) that share invaluable information with the novitiates. So maybe a Handloading How-To series could be considered. Just a thought.
  4. Excellent post Leroy. Sage advice.   Every novice or soon to be handloader should read Leroy's post imho.       I have a Dillon and it gets used a lot...but I spent my first 3 or so years on an old Lee single to learn the ins & outs. I still use that same press frequently and it's over 25 years old. It's served me well.
  5. Welcome aboard Submariner! Glad to have you aboard...from a former dry-land sailor.  :pleased:
  6. My Gen 3 19 is my constant carry companion.   I'm not surprised Glock still introduce a small single stack 9mm... but I am a bit bummed by it. I had high hopes tons of people would rush out and buy one and I could then pick up one of their 9mm Shields for less than nothing! What's a fella to do?
  7.     I believe they offer free shipping for first time customers...   One of my shooting buds shoots a lot of their ammo... 5.56, 9mm, and 45acp. Good stuff from what I see.     They also off a "Deal of the day".  http://www.freedommunitions.com/dealoftheday.asp
  8. It would have most likely been fine. As mentioned above, it's pretty easy to determine when you can physically see it. I still have a couple of those red cans of 3031 and shot about 20 rounds of 5.56 I loaded with it last week. I purchased that powder in 1991.   I'm glad he so far away from me and I didn't know about it until it was being discussed. Whew! Saved me some bucks! :pleased:
  9. Sweet! And for MSRP of $15.95? Why not? :pleased:
  10. This is great info stumpy. Thank you!   I would like to, plan to actually, try this powder with 7.62x39 down the road. Would you mind sharing the general charge range you used?   I also load for my 336 (.30-30) and hadn't even considered this powder for that application. Good to hear.   I've had AA2230 on backorder from MidSouth for over a year now, which is why I picked up this H335 when it became available through them.I am very pleased I did.   Much obliged for the info.
  11. Greetings and Welcome to TGO John. :hat:
  12. Thank you Leroy.   I had seen on several reload data sites where folks were using powder charges greater than 25 grs in bolt guns without issues and having good accuracy results. I greatly appreciate the firsthand information.   As I mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised with the casual accuracy achieved during my chrono session. I'm certain I'll edge up a bit towards 25.5 grs just out of curiosity, but I'll definitely load up more rounds at 25 grs and test out the accuracy potential...as usual the problem will be that the rounds work out better than the shooter. LOL.      btw...is the powder you're referring to when you said "The other "pet" load was 26.5 grains of Ball C2"  Hodgdon BL-C(2)?  https://www.hodgdon.com/rifle.html   Options are a very good thing these days!  Thanks again.   ...
  13. Welcome to Free America. You choose wisely.   We like things that "go boom" as well. :pleased:
  14. Just an update;   I loaded up 8 different loads of H335 ranging from 21.8 grs to 25.0 grs. Bullets were Extreme 55 gr fmj. Trimmed and prepped range brass. Primers were Tula Small Rifle KVB 223. OAL 2.20"   Temp was 37 degrees and very overcast at ORSA today.   Rifle: 1995 version Bushy...twist rate is 1:9...16" barrel...old Vortex flash hider.   Velocity ranged from an average of 2487 (21.8) up to 2866 (25.0).   All rounds functioned without issue and no signs of pressure were noted.   I was only shooting at 50 yards and not shooting for accuracy. Some rounds were off sandbags and some loosely "propped" by my elbows. All rounds clustered at point of aim...but the surprise was a 1" or less cluster with the 25.0 gr rounds. This group was one of my elbow propped groups, so I am looking forward to seeing what this load actually does when tested for accuracy at 100 and 200 yards.   I just wanted to share the info in case it can be of use to anyone. Any suggestions and/or thoughts are welcome.
  15. hipower;   Good points on Secession. I did enjoy it...but I am apparently a "Joe Nobody Junkie" LOL...but I do feel it was one of his weaker works.   I just finished book two of the Olympus Device series last night. Much more of a syfy bent, and also not as strong as the Bishop works...but at least I got my "fix"!   I then started Weber's "Last Stand:Warlords". The series is pretty good. I like that it has a local setting (Oneida,TN).   I do have "The Salt War" by Joe Nobody waiting on my nightstand for my next read.     The "Black Tide Rising" series looks good and the reviews on Amazon are pretty positive as well. fwiw I usually find the Amazon reviews pretty helpful...those folks can be brutally honest, which I appreciate.     The "Paladin Series" looks interesting as well... This quote from one of the reviews makes me want to read it. LOL "Not only is the book not "politically correct", but it is an over-the-top right wing fairy tale."   The same reviewer...obviously with a very liberal bent, says "The book is also relentless about showing the bad side of Islam: the villains in all three stories are Muslim terrorists. There is not a single sympathetic portrayal of a Muslim in any of the stories." Well I wonder why? :stunned: iirc the world is kinda having a few problems with Muslim terrorists these day...   I added them to my list as well. Thanks hipower !  :pleased:
  16. You mean besides porcelain Glocks? and Glocks being undetectable on xrays? and that women can only handle .22 or .25 caliber guns? or that a "snub nosed revolver" is the perfect house gun...despite a 12 lb trigger pull? or that "cocking" a gun will "prove" you are serious?   Whatever do you mean? :surrender:
  17. PM coming at you.
  18.   Sorry...just click the link above.   It's Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association  Membership is $120.00/year for family. They host shooting competitions each weekend. They have a handgun "plinking" range (bring your own targets), a Rifle practice range is being built. A 200 yards rifle range. a 1000 yard rifle range. Trap/skeet range and an indoor range.   A sponsor is required...easy... and orientation is necessary to gain access via a card.   I know little about Windrock but will remedy that within the next couple of weeks.
  19. Not trying to take away from Tac's business. guys, but there are some outdoor ranges in your AO as well.   Oak Ridge Sportsman:   http://orsaonline.org/   and   Windrock Shooting Range in Oliver Springs: http://www.windrockshootingrange.com/home.html   I've ventured out to Windrock yet, but plan to do so soon.   Just wanted you to know there are options. Several of us here are ORSA members as well.
  20. Glad to have you onboard. Welcome. :hat:     Guns, "furry" family members, and a love of our God Given Constitutionally protected Rights...Win-Win!  Gotta love TGO!
  21.     True OS. at least I hope so...   But I honestly believe that in a couple of years some will look back at the ready availability and  affordability of gear like this  and go "If only...".   It's a buyers market at the moment, but we all know only too well how fast that can change. :2cents:
  22. There are only 18 bundles of the 10 packs left as I type this. There were 260 when I ordered mine. Just an FYI if you want or need some at a good price.
  23. Good points hipower.   I have an irrational fear of running out of things I like to read. I have the majority of SWAT magazine published since around 1989...I think my wife is on to my hoarding tendencies but she hasn't ratted me out to the reality TV shows...yet. :ugh: But I will pull some of them out periodically and reminisce over the advertisements and purchases I should have made. LOL   I still haven't made a move towards an e-reader yet...I just like the feel of a book in my hands. Maybe one day. Time will tell.
  24. Mark, my wife says we suffer from bibliophlism...as usual, she's right...   I'm Prag and I'm a bibliophile... Perhaps we need to form a support group of "Readaholics Anonymous" and meet at local ranges on a rotational basis? :pleased:   I too re-read this entire thread periodically...I also re-read some of my older books, like Cooper's works, Applegate, Sykes, etc.   Fortunately I'm dyslexic...so it takes me some time to finish a book LOL   I'm just finishing The Olympus Device book 2 and have a couple of books on the bedside table to read next...but it's a challenge to find quality reading material sometimes....or maybe it's too easy and I'm spoiled...   yep...we need a shooting & support group...
  25. Greetings and Welcome to TGO.
