  1. Now That's a friend!
  2. I agree...under the jail.   The trouble is, there's quite a few idiots out there with the same plan as this fool. Granted, the herd would be culled pretty quickly...but it's also just another reason to stay low profile with your preps...
  3.     I appreciate what you're saying jaxjohn. But not to worry good sir. You'll do fine. Just remember we are all there to enjoy the sport and you, imho, should only be concerned with competing against yourself (my personal goal). Be safe, listen to the S.O., take all the time you need, be safe (theme here), and enjoy.   Despite all the carrying on and good natured ribbing, the folks at the matches are very supportive and welcoming of new folks, and a wealth of solid information...heck...they don't even treat me that bad. :pleased:
  4. There's gotta be a story there Rickey.       jaxjohn;   There is a "plinking range", but unless you're a member you have to come out as a guest (accompanied). And since there's no shooting allowed before 0900 there simply wouldn't be enough time before the match. Are you having functional concerns about your handgun?
  5. jaxjohn;     Eyes and Ears...vision and hearing protection. A sturdy belt to support holster and mag pouches...I have a few extra holsters and mag pouches for the Glock 19. Cash for the fee...IIRC $15.00 for non-member...$10.00 for ORSA member. Open Mind and a Sense of Humor.   Cleaning kit and oil? You clean a Glock??? Seriously?      OK OK...I cleaned my once...I think. Dropping it in a mud puddle counts...     Brasil and I should be there around 0900-0915.   I don't know much about this USPSA stuff so the other guys will have to help out of that side of things...but there's shooting involved so it'll be fun!
  6.     Now who would want to do that?  :pleased:   Yep Brother...it'd store well for a long time.
  7. Did you happen to notice any 2230 Caster?   and...any idea when David is heading back towards the Knoxville area? I never seem to be able to keep up with the gunshows, and I'm usually working. But I understand Mr David is always accommodating when possible. I would much prefer to give him my business whenever possible.
  8. I feel your pain Luke.   I've recently started handloading 5.56 (again) and have found AA 2230 to fit my needs extremely well...unfortunately the one pound I purchased to "try" it went away rapidly...way too rapidly...   I have 16 # on backorder, so I guess that'll teach me patience. LOL.   If I run across 2520 anywhere I'll post back here.   Good Luck.
  9. I feel it's a State's Rights issue completely.   Every time we "Federalize" anything, and we've "given" way too much to the bloated and inefficient creature the Federal Government has evolved into,we lose a piece of our soul. Our Constitution is met to protect our God Given Rights and is ignored more and more each day by the Feds. I think it would be the beginning on the end of meaningful concealed carry. The Rule of Unintended Consequences is always standing close at hand...   I think TMF and others have summed up my concerns quite well.
  10. So, if I'm understanding this correctly (please excuse my ignorance), the baffle prevents the powder from becoming more densely packed therefore allowing a more uniformed throw?   I'm hoping to pick up a chrono within the next few months (as finances allow). So I'm taking notes on this. Great info folks.
  11.   Aw Spiffy. Don't be like that. Not everyone can say "their Glock 34" won high overall. :pleased:   Bedside, my being there will make the whole gang look better. LOL.
  12. I was at WM Turkey Creek earlier today. I wasn't looking for ammo, but the missus was getting her hair 'done", so I got to jaw-jacking with the manager in the sporting goods section. He's a good guy and we've had quite a few conversations over the past few years. I very rarely purchase ammo, but always enjoy talking guns and ammo with folks.   fwiw he told me he's seeing less and less of the re-sellers. Believe me they do know who the resellers are.   We got to talking about the 9mm and 5.56 ammo mentioned above.   The 9mm looks to be 124 gr NATO spec with green primer sealant. Nice looking rounds. The ones in the ammo cans (new production milspec Turkish cans) are in 200 round battle paks. Very heavy duty packaging. I didn't have enough time to check out the 5.56 as the missus beckoned. :pleased:

    PSA

LOL. A friend of mine ordered a few cases of ammo from PSA. About a week later he expressed the same concerns. I told him not to worry and that they'll come through for him. About 10 days later the ammo arrived. Great pricing for these days as well. He's a repeat customer too.   Good folks. Good prices.
  14. Great info Brasil!   JaxJohn...I have extra holsters and mag pouches...mags as well...that you can use if you like.   I have no class...which is well known to my friends...so it's not a concern for me. But I'll require some direction as well.
  15. Definitely come try it out.   I'm certain some very knowledgeable folks here will answer your questions much better than I can.   But I carry a Glock 19, about as factory as they come as far as internals, Trijicon sites and Perkins Modified Grip Reduction and Enhancement Package (How's that for a description? ).   A lot of folks will, I'm certain, utilize holsters and other gear that will enhance their performance. I'll be using my EDC IWB holster and mag pouches...plus a couple of additional magazines. But that's just my preference. Besides, I lack the ability to benefit from the match purpose gear.   As far as ammo? By looking at the stages from the ORSA Facebook page it should be around 120 rounds. But since I plan on missing...probably a lot...I plan to bring 300 rounds. LOL.   There's an update at the ORSA Facebook page addressing member and non-member match fees. Very timely.     Time:  http://orsaap.com/USPSA%20page.htm
  16. No Sir JaxJohn. No membership required.   Come on out and join us.      http://orsaonline.org/faq.asp   http://orsaonline.org/contact.asp
  17. I was hoping to squad together as well since I'm gonna try and get Spiffy and Brasil would be my "lead bearers" . :pleased:     Rocks? I gotta bring rocks? Things have certainly changed since we referred to it as "IPSC" back in the day... :squint:
  18. I'll be shooting my first USPSA Match since the late '90's out at ORSA this coming Saturday. I am really looking forward to it.   My work schedule (every other weekend off) only allows me to shoot matches about 6 months out of the year. I am psyched ti finally have a "Match Weekend" off for this.   I have been shooting IDPA there for a short while (couple of years) and thoroughly enjoy the quality of the stages and the folks I've got to know at ORSA.   Now I will need some remediation LOL, so I'm counting on a little help there guys. :pleased:   I actually linked to the ORSA USPSA Facebook page ...a major step for me since I'm a dyed in wool technotard. The stages are listed there and they look to be fun and challenging!   https://www.facebook.com/pages/ORSA-uspsa/119338841557558   See you folks there.   I'm the "Skinny Col. Sanders" looking old curmudgeon.
  19. My old "standby" powders have been Unique and W-231 for 9mm and 45 acp...for nearly 25 years. But the shortage forced me out of my comfort zone and I discovered American Select from Alliant and absolutely love it for 147 gr lead 9mm. AA#2 is great for my .38's and a little goes a long way...   My favorite primers are Federal and Winchester. But I've had good luck with Wolf magnum small pistol primers for 9mm. I'm not so pleased with the "lead free" Tula primer (small). I relegate them strictly for range/practice...they allow for the occasional malfunction clearance drills and therefore save wear and tear on my orange dummy rounds. LOL.
  20. Welcome aboard "Slim"!     Man...there is absolutely no screening process around here... :ugh:   Just kidding Buddy. Heck...they let Spif and Brasil...and me on here...
  21. I'm a cigarette smoker myself, and "make my own". But occasionally I do like a cigar, especially something like a Macanudo or a cigar along that like with a maduro wrapper. I don't pretend to know much about cigars, just what I've stumbled upon that I like.   Quality cigars are generally costly though. I discovered Backwoods Cigars, Honey Berry in particular, several years ago. I know some folks will say those are sissy flavored cigars, but I think they are pretty darn good..and they're affordable.   I do have a couple of pipes. 2 I inherited from my father, and one I picked up in Germany back in the 70's. I really do need to try them out, but haven't a clue as to what tobacco to try. Pipe tobacco recommendations are welcome and appreciated.   My grandmother (back in South Mississippi) taught me to make corncob pipes when I was 5 years old. She had me make them for her mother (full blooded Cherokee lady). It kept me busy and kept her mother happy. Smart lady my grandmother.
  22. I just never understood the attraction to $5.00/cup coffee from a drive-through...     I much prefer to brew my own.   Community Dark Roast or Breakfast Blend.      Excuse me while I pour another cup. :pleased:
  23. Welcome Goose.  :hat:
  24. Welcome aboard Mike.   You've found an exceptional community with helpful and knowledgeable members...make yourself at home. :pleased:
  25. I saw this last evening. Thanks for the link Steelharp.     It reminds me of the "bolo" shotgun rounds of yesteryear. An ingenious solution to a nonexistent problem. :shake:      Aim small, miss small. It's the hits to the vitals, with adequate penetration that'll carry the day...
