1.  I first off want to say Thank you to Randy for another outstanding class. And Thank you to Brian for allowing use of his incredibly beautiful property and hosting this class.     Two of my friends and I drove down for the 2nd day of the class. Unfortunately we were unable to make Day 1.   Point of View: I have been in health care for 41 years. (Navy Corpsman and R.N. ER/ICU). One of my friends is an ER Physician and has had one other professional training class. This was a first for friend #2.   It was an excellent and very well presented class. Randy’s knowledge, communication abilities, and teaching style are top notch. I appreciate the “crawl-walk-run” methodology Randy utilizes, forming a solid foundation upon which to build.   This class was an excellent intro into Self Care and Buddy Care and is solidly set in the TC3 (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) concepts and is especially well tailored towards to civilian gun owning, and carrying, population.     Finish the fight. “The best medicine on the battlefield is fire superiority.” Capt. Frank Butler U.S.N. Assess for additional threats. Self assessment. Assess your buddy. Initiate Self Care and/or Buddy Care.   “Killer B’s”…Bleeding and Breathing.   Carry a gun? You might want to consider carrying a Tourniquet (TQ). And learn how to apply it…and practice under stress. Randy can make that happen and he dispels the many myth's and taboo's regarding TQ use. Direct Pressure. Wound packing. Have the gear...own the skill.   Breathing…it’s a fundamental requirement for life. We all, as members of our community, need to have a basic understanding of simple techniques like "head tilt/chin lift" airway positioning. And familiarization with a device such as a NPA (NasoPharyngeal Airway) and it's appropriate use.     FOF: A good stress inoculator is Force on Force using airsoft guns in a controlled and well scripted learning environment. I’ve trained using Simuntion rounds before, so I have a frame of reference when I say that current production Airsoft guns can be extremely useful and a great learning tool. They are much more effective than I recalled, as my bruises will attest to.       I carry a small personal BOK or Blow Out Kit in my right hip pocket. It contains a TQ (currently a CAT), a stripped down Emergency Bandage or Israeli Military Bandage, a pair of non-latex gloves, and a triangular bandage…it’s a small kit, about the size of my wallet, except the CAT. It’s comfortable, and comforting.   The exposure to the various types of TQ’s, and their self application under stress, made me glad I choose the CAT.     I don’t know the statistics, but very few gunowners see the value of training and avail themselves of the wonderful opportunities such as Randy provides our region. Even fewer, markedly fewer, see the value of learning truly life saving skills such we were taught in this class. It was a genuine honor to meet and train with such good folks. You guys are an asset to your families and to your community.     Thank you again Randy. I look forward to training with you again Sir.
2. Well done and Congrats Red!   Of course you know you now have a new addiction, don't you?     We are using red and green and have gone through about 5000 rounds of 9mm so far. Dolomite's method is beyond simple.   We've even pushed some of the 9mm rounds up to 1300 fps to test the powder coating. The stuff works!   And the red bullets are a bit of an attention-getter.  But I like the green ones myself.     Please let us know what you think of the HP rounds if/when you test them. HP's are next on the agenda for us.
3. We serve the Pekingese and are Blessed to do so. :pleased: These two are litter-mates, brother and sister. Their chicken, seasoned with Italian dressing and Tony's, is in the oven as I type this... I hope, if there is reincarnation, I get to come back as a Pekingese... but I'd probably be a skunk... Buckley Grace
4. Thanks for posting the vids guys! Wow!   I'm impressed...
5. JohnC...   We wish we had now...you can believe that my friend.
6. You know wilee...maybe I'm too close to the situation. "Doc" is my friend...like family to me...so, maybe I'm biased about the profoundly unprofessional manner with which this was dealt.   As Brasil mentioned above...this is a service they offer...and that particular location, to the best of my knowledge..has done these applications before.     Concerns could quite easily have been voiced by LineX, in person, initially. No big deal. It's simply not the way it went down.   Just remember, the finger could be pointed at any of us, at any time...none of us are immune to the current political climate.   Opinions vary...I get that...we could "what if" this until the cows come home...   I just thought I'd get the word out on what transpired with us. If the information is beneficial, I'm glad.     Thank you for the interest and input folks.
7. Good grief. “See something, say something” from the Obama administration struck home the other day.   Several of my buds and I followed the thread on body armor closely. As we have been discussing this topic recently, we decided it was time to get serious about obtaining some decent kit. Link: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/77771-body-armor/   We are all involved in the shooting and training communities and take safety seriously. One member of our group is an ER Physician and was looking into Tactical Medicine as well. Tac Teams historically look to Paramedics and ER Physicians as a “best option” for their Team Medics…makes sense to me…   We found a good deal on unlined plates and Condor carriers. We figured, after much discussion and research that we would have the plates coated front and back with LineX, to mitigate the effects of splatter and spalling.     Our bud (the ER Physician…let’s call him “Doc”) and another member of our group went down to Linex to discuss having the plates lined. The price sounded reasonable to us… The timetable for coating front, back and side plates plus thickness, etc were also discussed. No mentions of any restrictions or concerns occurred during the conversation.     The next day “Doc” took the plates into LineX of Knoxville. “Doc” was alone this time. “Doc” said the guys at LineX appeared anxious…”jumpy” were his words…and then told him they would have to contact “corporate” to see if they could actually do, what had been previously discussed, for a private citizen… “Doc” left the plates with the understanding that they would be coated.   A couple of hours later “Doc” received a phone call from Homeland Security. It seems the good folks at LineX Knoxville were concerned enough about the LineX application process being used in nefarious ways that they felt the need to follow the “see something, say something” like good little subjects…err… citizens….   You see, my friend’s skin color isn’t as light as mine… never mind he was born and raised here…has busted his ass getting through medical school and serves his community…he apparently looked suspicious enough to the good old boys at LineX to warrant a “checking out” by Home Land Security…       Well, after a talk with the good man at Homeland security, (and even being offered a reference by said agent to a local Law Enforcement agency to serve as a role in Tactical Medicine with their Tac Team), LineX offered to do the job ASAP.     Really?  Seriously?   This really chapped my rear end… LineX of Knoxville can be “good citizens/subjects” all day long…but they won’t get a penny of our hard earned money.   We here at TGO joke about “being on a list” sometimes…Well LineX of Knoxville can make that a reality for you. I just thought folks should know.   Btw…Corporate was in fact contacted; smoke was blown…   Thanks but no thanks LineX of Knoxville…       edited because of my inability to spell correctly.
8. I'm definitely down for the "Suarez Regional Training Day".   I've sent out an e-mail to my motley friends and brothers about this offering.   I have 2 commitments so far and I'm certain there'll be more. This is simply too good to pass up.   Thank you Randy.
9.     My first thought as well...then I considered the source...
10. Good points R_Bert;   I'm in Knox County...a mixture of good folks and libtards imho... but the wife likes it and I love her...so there you go... but plan to move to Anderson or Roane county when feasible.
11. Welcome from another deep south transplant.   Oak Ridge is a good community and Anderson county has a lot to offer as well.   There are definitely 4 seasons here...sometimes within the same month LOL.   Great folks though. Lots of gun loving, Constitution respecting folks. :usa:
12. Excellent post and list theconstitutionrocks.   While I have several books on my shelf near my Med Gear stock, I too keep the SF Manual in my major FAK. It's a proven resource.   I do keep IV supplies. But these are not "Care Under Fire" items, but have come in handy many times over the years. (I do this for a living and start about 100 IV's each and every week.)     I've used Chinook Med many times as well gjohnsonV. Great company and very helpful. Moore Medical is a good asset as well.   dawgdoc, I totally agree. Honey is a must have, and yes we do still use it in various forms in hospital. I've used mixtures of granulated sugar and iodine/betadine and honey/betadine since the early 1970's.   Honey and sugar have been used in wound treatment, documented, since the time of the Roman Legions.     molonlabe....Excellent Point. While I am not a smart man, I have been telling folks this same thing for years..some listen, some don't...   "A smart man once told me that even if you have no medical training, the medical kit you carry may likely not be used BY you, but be used ON you by a trained off-the-clock doctor, nurse, medic, etc, who finds you and stops to help but doesn't have their own equipment with them."
13. Suarez intl.  Instructor Randy Harris Defensive Shotgun and Defensive Pistol Marksmanship Knoxville, TN April 26 & 27 2014     First, I would like to express my appreciation to GTG for hosting Randy and providing a place for this very worthwhile opportunity. It was good to finally meet you GTG.     Let me word this correctly… Knowing Randy, I had very high expectations for these classes. My expectations were met and exceeded.   There was a great group of experienced folks in attendance. And I am honored to have had the opportunity to meet and train with each of them. Only one of the guys, my buddy Jericho, was a first-timer. As a matter of fact Jericho had only recently purchased his first shotgun, a very nice Benelli, and had only that week worked with a holstered handgun (one of my Glocks and my gear).  He did very well (imho) and certainly developed an appreciation of the true value of investing in professional training.   It’s been several years since I have been able to attend any professional training venues. I have been blessed with training with several excellent instructors in past years. Randy ranks right at the top.   Randy demonstrates a very professional, and calm, teaching demeanor. He’s uses “positives” in instruction and corrections as needed, aiding the student in improving techniques therefore formulating “positive” mental conditioning and outcomes. I particularly like his “crawl-walk-run” methodology, as this imparts an understanding and foundational ground work for the student to build upon.   Randy has a great eye for detail and is able to pick up on and help improve subtle details to keep you moving in the right direction. I appreciate that as I was more than rusty in many areas.   Randy even had me shooting, and hitting with, my shotgun using my non-dominate side…a pump mind you… something I never considered being able to do efficiently in the past.   I thoroughly enjoyed Day 2 (Handgun) as well. Immensely actually… Again, the “building blocks” methodology shined through.   Randy had us shooting at very small dots, reinforcing the principles of proper grip, trigger press, reset, and follow through…then transferred these concepts to plates and poppers at distance. We worked a variety of drills, each building on the one before, with encouragement to push ourselves to improve and increase speed without sacrificing adherence to the basic principles.     I have a lot of homework left to do, but thanks to Randy I have a solid foundation to build upon as I try and knock the rust off.     I firmly believe that the best investment each of us can make is in our skills. New “toys” are nice…but investing in knowledge and skill development is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves, and those that trust us to protect them.   Randy once again demonstrated he can, and will, do the job....and do it very well.   As a wiser man than I once said, it’s up to us to “do the work”.   Thanks Randy.   I look forward to the next opportunity to train with you Good Sir.
14. Thanks Robert.   I recently finished Book 7 of the "Holding Their Own" series. I really like the characters. link   I'm a bit frustrated at how long it's taken the 299 Days series to be doled out...but will finish the series nonetheless as I've invested so darn much time in it LOL...     I've preordered "Forsaking Home" by A.American and look forward it reading it as well. link
15. That's a beauty will reed.   Love those Tyler grip adapters.   How does she shoot?
16. I have a set of XS "Big Dot" tritium on my G 17 and love those suckers. Very bright and fast to pick up.   The XS sights take a bit of adjusting to, but are well worth the time and effort imho.
17. CZ;   CCI primers are relatively hard, especially when compared to Federal and Winchester, in my experience.   I shoot Glocks as well (17-19-26). The only primers I've had issue with were the "lead-free" Tula primers. But they would almost always ignite on a second strike from my Glocks. I did put an extra power spring on my striker in order to get reliable ignition on those particular primers...but have since removed that spring as we are using "regular" Tula primers now.     Did you try running the one struck rounds back through to see if they would ignite?   Also...just a thought...sometimes primer seating depth (ie not seated deeply enough) can cause primer strike ignition problems...   Good luck and hang with it.       :2cents:
18. Janeane Garofalo nearly ruined 24 for me (and my Bride).   She brought a complete overdose of political correctness to the last couple of seasons that changed the whole dynamic of the series, imho.   The only reason we kept watching it was in the hopes that Chloe would kill her...alas...It didn't happen... :ugh:     Thanks for the vid Steelharp. It looks to have potential again.
19. btq;   Thanks for the nudge.   I used your letter as a template and wrote my Congressman.   Nothing ventured, nothing gained.   Even though I feel at greatest chance for meaningful change is at the local and State level, there are certainly Federal restrictions that simply need to be done away with...this is one of them.
20. My work schedule does the same thing to me Daniel...   But I'm looking forward to June as well...IDPA and USPSA.         And to hang with Brasil and Spiffy?
21. I don't know how many folks subscribe to SWAT magazine, I do and have for a couple of decades...   But there is a very good article by Dr.Dabbs in my current issue on AR 500 plates. Timely and interesting.
22.   Good to hear and Thank you.   A gentleman I was corresponding with about some of the ar500 plates was recommending them. The price is impressive...read as affordable.
23. Good info.   Does anyone have any experience with Condor plate carriers?   I'm ignorant and trying to learn something here folks.   http://www.condoroutdoor.com/condor-qpc.aspx
24. There are actually several good options available out there. I've carried a Clinch Pic for quite a while now. I knew/know and trained with the designer and it fits my preceived need very well. http://monderno.com/knife-reviews/shivworks-clinch-pick/ I also have a Polkowsli Kasper fixed blade in a Mike Sastre kydex sheath. Mike's a good guy and easy to work with. http://www.rivercitysheaths.com/photo.htm Another fixed blade I have sometimes carry is the now discontinued Spyderco Ronin... A TDI knife in an NSR tactical aftermarket sheath is a viable option. http://www.kabar.com/knives/detail/76 http://nsrtactical.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43&products_id=29 but I still carry my waved Griptilian daily.
25. I've already received a reply from Senator Bell.   Great Guy!   Don't forget to write and Thank Senator Bell and Representative Dennis folks.       One step closer to our Constitution and God Given Rights people! :usa:
