  1. In a defensive situation, if my attacker is 25 yards (75 feet) away, chances are I’m going to try to flee rather than attack. I know Tennessee is a “Stand your ground” state. However, if I shoot and kill someone who is 75 feet away, a prosecutor or DA’s office might try to make a case that I was not in imminent danger to life and limb. When it comes to self defense training, I am more concerned with accuracy 10yards or less. If I could, I would love to train shooting close range while moving backwards or back and to the side. Unfortunately you can’t just do that at a typical range. I do move the target out or 15 or 20 just to see what I can do, but I don’t send too many rounds at that distance.
  2. So, Apparently my wife does particularly care for the smell of Hoppes #9 wafting through the house when I clean my pistols. What other gun cleaning solvents does the TGO collective recommend that may have less (as my wife would say) “pungent” odor.
  3. All my range toys... M&P Shield 9 EDC M&P Shield 45, BD sights #2 EDC ATI GI 1911 45, just fun to shoot, M&P 2.0 9 Compact
  4. I did buy one of the gear/ammo sale items https://www.ammunitiondepot.com/ammunition-depot-9mm-tactical-sling-pack-350-round-pmc.html and added 150 more rounds to make it an even 500. If I take out the cost of the bag ($38.22 w/tax) from what I spent, then it was about $0.16/round. It’s not a bad little range bag.
  5. Who has used (if anyone) the 9mm US Cartridge Remanufactured Clean Barrel polymer coated lead core ammunition? https://www.ammunitiondepot.com/us-cartridge-cleanbarrel-remanufactured-9mm-115-gr-bronze-tpj.html?unit_type=21 It seams a decent price per round in bulk, but not a “can’t pass it up” price.
  6. I went to BGA at the old campus south of Franklin. Spent a lot of time on a school bus between Nashville and Franklin.
  7. So I actually joined back in December but I thought I should actually introduce myself. Born and raised in Nashville, as was my dad (family from Russellville KY before that). Seen alot of change in 50 years. I like shooting, Land Cruisers, camping, Hockey (not necessarily in that order I found the list after it was recommended as a possible place to sell my Kahr K40 (still for sale, but possibly working a deal). I kept reading other threads and have enjoyed everyone’s thoughts on not only my questions, but other topics. I have met two list members face to face to close sales. Both were just great folks and a pleasure to meet, chat with and deal with. I look forward to more insights, thoughts, opinions, and maybe even some good deals. Thanks
  8. Aren’t most of our purchases impulse buys?
  9. https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/207409 well, I guess my deal on Gunbroker was not as good as it could have been. Based on this price, I overpaid by $24 Still, a great way to get a M&P 2.0 9 Compact for cheap if you sell the laser separate.
  10. Other than face to face through TGO, I have bought through Gunbroker.com. I have purchased handguns, mags, ammo, etc. The downside is it can be a bit addictive to bid on things and you might win when you don’t really mean to. My last purchase was a case like that, but it worked out to be an awesome deal. A new M&P 2.0 9mm Compact with a green Crimson Trace laser and two 15rd mags. $408 with $15 shipping. I sold the laser for $210 on eBay so the pistol cost me $198 plus $15 shipping and $35 for FFL transfer/ background check.
  11. So I am curious. What are folks opinions on aftermarket sights for pistols? Not optics, but normal sights. I am thinking about night sights for my Shield 9 or my M&P Compact 9.
  12. Shield 9mm or Shield 45 at the moment. Just got a M&P 9mm compact. Once I am familiar with it, it may replace the Shield 9mm. I have been courting the P365 as an option.
  13. Those 944s are getting expensive as folks are getting them and swapping in small block V8s. My next door neighbor had one and sold it several years ago for way too little. He did not realize the value until he started dating his current girlfriend who’s family is all into Porsches.
  14. Not the best date car for sure. And my wife still complains I “smell like the cruiser” i.e. exhaust and unburnt fuel, every time I drive it. However, I high school my friends all wanted me to drive because the top was always off. I had that one almost through college before she sacrificed herself in an almost head on collision in 1994 to save a buddy and me. Bought the next one (‘78 FJ40) out of a garage in Memphis in ‘96 and still have it.
  15. Same. Bought it for $2300 from Toyota in Franklin summer of ‘86. If I could just go back and put it in a barn before I wrecked it the first time...... i have owned an FJ40 ever since.
  16. I guess I could have scrolled down a little and see that there was already the exact same topic. Doh
  17. Who has tired or uses an Urban Carry G-Series holster? I am looking for an IWB holster for my M&P Shield(s). The concept looks cool and comfortable, but I wonder how they perform IRL.
  18. What about the IWI Masada? Optic ready, 17+1 capacity and about $400. Anyone here have one or shot one? It is one I am thinking about.
  19. Thanks for the input Whisper. I know I just need to put more rounds through both. Usually at the range on a work day (read lunch break) I put at least a box through the Shield 9 and the 1911, through the 1911 often gets more. I guess I just need to leave the 1911 In the bag more for the Shield 45.
  20. So I went to the range at lunch and put about 50 rounds through my 1911 and 50 through my M&P Shield 45 and about 31 through my M&P Shield 9 (I only had what was in my full mags). The Shield 45 did not have as sharp a recoil as the Shield 9, but it was not as deep (for lack of a better word) a recoil as the 1911. I need to shoot both Shields side by side more to get a better opinion, but I already think I like the 45 more than the 9. I still like my 1911 the best. I can keep a decent grouping in the center and further out with it. I still pull down and left with both Shields (not as bad with the 45). That is a different topic, but I wonder what I am doing different. The trigger is definitely different between a 1911 and a striker fired pistol. That and the weight. It makes me wonder if that is the cause. Sometimes I just aim high and right.
  21. Once I shoot my M&P Shield 45, I will give an opinion. To date, I have only shot 45acp through a full size 1911 (I’ve had two). I too am curious how the lighter frame, shorter barrel will be as compared to a full frame 1911. Hitting the range tomorrow so I will let you know.
