Just want to give a shout-out for those that may not have family around. First few holidays were rough for me, only time I experienced homesickness. Usually spend the holidays with my old timer neighbor shooting and eating, gave him a heads up that this year would be different for us. I felt bad driving home and saw his car in the drive. Called and let him know I’ll bring him home a plate and happy to hear he has plans of his own! Very grateful that a few years ago my buddy reached out to me and had myself and a few other of us over that didn’t have family around because being ex-military he got the whole “holidays are tough thing”. Made my first pie today (she did all the measuring and hard work I just sliced and peeled the apples and did the dishes), looking forward to and grateful for being able to spend the day in a family environment. Two week turn around but won’t complain because for 23.5 cpr for .380 shipped it was by far the cheapest. Will have to take a drive out of the way and stop home to grab it because I went halves with my buddy I’m spending thanksgiving with. His wife got a 380 EZ and needed training ammo. I like that. Well said. I’ve seen some of the builds you’ve posted and I think I may go that route. In the next week or so I’m going to start parting out some budget gear and optics. I think it makes sense for me to have 3 slide assemblies for the tx-22 as mine takes a beating and will eventually wear. If I haven’t mounted a scope and it doesn’t have a dedicated home I’m going to let those go. Already texted a buddy who had interest in one of my safe queens and that’s gone. Probably going to trim the .22 long guns and upgrade those and start there. It may be a decent Christmas for a few family members if I can figure out transport and legalities. I was at an outdoors show and I was impressed with the ria, fit my hand well. Hi-point takes a lot of flak but they do have really good CS and warranty. The thing is ugly as sin and similar feel and weight to a black and decker drill but I could stomach that purchase a lot more. I’d really like a quality sig 1911 but that’s a stretch for a plinker and I’d feel a bit guilty dropping that money during the holiday season. .

The 10mm would 100% be a plinker. Truth be told I traded labor for a decent amount of 10ammo and I want the room in my safe. I think you’re on the other side of the state but I’ll give you a heads up, will probably mull this over for a week or so. It doesn’t have anything to do with finances but more so just manageability. I like your reasoning of trading up with dupes/spare parts.

I’ve been tossing this idea around for a few days. I’m sure there’s a few of us that have a gun safe that is a wreck. No matter how many times I organize it, gear just accumulates. I’m general I don’t sell unless I shoot it like crap. The warden is cool with my hobby, I provide and we live a decent life, if I stack another safe in my small house that’ll be the point where she (rightfully so) gets to say how much is enough. I always justify it to myself that it’s a “good deal”, “backup parts will come in handy”, “buy it and store it just in case”. Most things in my life I’m a minimalist. I have been trying all of my life to improve my organizational skills and I’m upfront and honest with my flaws. I struggle heavily with organization. I find that by just having less possessions, it’s easier for me to manage my day to day. I just had to hip check the safe to get it closed, and that’s kinda where reality kicked in for me. My question is whether or not I should downsize and upgrade for quality. I’m a simple man, you want to sell me a .22lr for under $250 I’ll take you up on your offer in most cases. I’m by no means well off but my finances are in order and we do fine for ourselves. I also do view guns as an investment similar to the baseball cards I collected as a kid that are surprisingly worth something now. Is there a point where anyone here has gone this route and downsized and just bought higher quality? Other than a couple odds and ends I don’t have too many “Gucci guns”. I’m of the camp where if you’re into firearms the basics of a 10/22 for pests and plinking, mossberg 12 ga for larger game, Glock 19 for a nightstand, An AR just to have one, and pick your brand and preferred caliber deer rifle adequately covers all bases in whatever scenario you want to play out. I plink primarily as a hobby like people play golf of throw darts. I’m not trying to be the best operator that I can be. I have no illusions that buying the latest and greatest will make me bump up a tier in my shooting skills. I don’t have a great setup to shoot 5.56 so my budget AR is fine for me to run a couple mags an year out of and I don’t need the latest and greatest DD or LMT or whatever brand. I find myself pulling out a 10/22 or a ruger mkiv/tx-22 90% of the time when I get the itch to shoot. I guess the question I’m asking is if I have a few firearms that I don’t shoot regularly and don’t want to breakdown and clean is it worth it to downsize and upgrade my gear. I’m in the market for a 10mm handgun and can’t figure out if I want to drop $220 on a hi-point or $350-500 on a tisas or rock island armory or just make a commitment and buy a pricey SIG. If anyone here has downsized I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance and sorry for the lengthy post. Hip checking the safe closed made me consider this more.

10/22 that’s her gun to porch plink. 15-22 that’s also her gun. Remington 66 that’s mine. Old Winchester model 67 bolt. Henry lever action for the giggles. I’m a sucker for anything .22. Fun fact, shot with my buddy and we both brought the nylon 66. Apparently they were designed to never be lubed. I’ve got a bit of engineering brain and I don’t understand how it works but he’s 20k deep into his and has never lubed it. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I’ve been watching a real healthy doe and two fawns for the better part of six months. Dropped down to one fawn a month ago. Last week I heard a bang from the street and my stomach dropped thinking it may be the dog for some odd reason. It was the other fawn clipped by a truck. Elderly neighbor called the cops and they left it on the road, was able to salvage some tacos and back straps. The doe has been meticulous like clockwork, always showed up between 8-10am. A day before the season opened I heard a rifle round. Haven’t seen her since. Neighbors are on a fixed income and I’m not one to open my mouth. I’d be lying if I didn’t miss having that family show up and graze. I’ll be going out tomorrow morning in Dickson.

I boogered up reassembly and got my slide stuck pretty good to the point where I didn’t want to try to mallet it myself. I went in and handed it to the gunsmith who said “you might want to close your ears and distract yourself for this part”. He was right, it hurt to hear him wail away with what I assume was a rubber mallet, punch, a towel and a vice. After a few minutes he came out and had it disassembled. I asked what I owed him and he said go grab a recoil spring off the wall for ten dollars and spread the word that we helped you. So I’ll spread the word. It was also maybe 20 minutes til close so I already felt bad enough. All in all great experience for customer service.

As Grayfox said check ammoseek, it takes time but you can usually find a place without both tax and shipping. Also, SGAmmo is without a doubt reputable and reliable and has decent deals. They do however have a bit of a reputation for price gouging during Covid/conflict. You can google it, as far as I’m concerned it’s a free market. I try to post no tax and free ship deals in the “deals and steals” thread. If anyone is doing a bulk buy I’m e-mail subscribed to a bunch of places that are no tax and my inbox is open. This certainly isn’t a cheap hobby so every little bit helps (I’ll also send you a food / happy hour recommendation if the wife lifts the package before you do).

I always chuckle when friends comment on the time spent in the gym or the fact that you’re eating clean. That’s when they show the time to show concern. No one says anything when anyone goes for seconds at the party… Congrats on the massive weight loss. You should be ecstatic. Don’t listen to outsiders. Maybe if you’re able to, do a dry “month” after thanksgiving until Christmas Eve? I get it, it’s very hard. When I balloon up it’s typically because I enjoy watching hockey in the winter and the loss of daylight affects me. A sixer of Guinness is a lot of empty calories during a 2.5 hour game. I don’t have any easy weight to lose myself, I’ve come to grips with the fact that I’ll always have a little pooch unless I try to hit the gym hard. Like I tell the lady, you can find a guy with abs or you can find a guy that’s funny, stable, kind and like-minded. You’re re doing awesome. You’re building muscle which is the most important thing. I’ve got a bad back, trying to avoid getting fused up. I need to be diligent about my weight as a difference of 15-20 lbs I can feel and I’ve found something that works for me. I’ve done keto on and off for the better part of 6 years. It’s not for everyone, you have to weigh out things in the beginning and it’s boring and restrictive. Basically minimal sugar, alcohol, and gluten gives me less inflammation. If you fast for 48 hours you’re starting ketosis. Once every two months or so I do a three day fast where I just drink coffee water maybe some bone broth or stock and sodium/mag. I plan the days when I have no social commitments and off work. If you’re only trying to hit a number on a scale, you’ll drop 5 lbs in water weight when you go into keto and your glycogen storages empty. If you eat just meat, cheese, leafy greens handfuls of nuts and fruit and can keep your net carbs under 30-50 grams per day for a month you’ll drop 10lbs easily. Once you go back to eating a standard American diet you’ll gain the water weight you lose. Im 6’0, weight has ranged from 160-210. I try to keep it in the 170 -175 range. If I notice I’m getting thin I step on a scale and will increase calories. I’ve been doing it long enough I don’t have to weigh out anything. I also work a labor intensive job and I don’t count calories as I’m on my feet 60 hours a week. I won’t think twice about going to BWW and smashing back a Cobb salad and 30 wings with a couple diet cokes. That being said the diet is boring, i don’t tell anyone I do keto because I don’t want to hear their opinions, and I’ve got a sweet tooth that’s insatiable. Every couple months I’ll take a weekend off for a wedding or holiday and gorge myself, but I feel the inflammation immediately after. You also do a lot more actual working out than I do, but if you stick w it for 30 days you’ll drop 10 lbs and then gain 3-4 back in water weight and just have to count calories in and out. It’s not for everyone, don’t want to sound preachy, I don’t tell anyone anything other than I eat clean and am trying to prolong my back but it works for me to not feel like I’m 90 getting out of bed.
