  1. You would, or maybe not, be surprised at how much that is posted here (on the internet in general) is actually the truth of how someone thinks through things.
  2. A discussion of this very topic came up a while back. IIRC, the "street" way to tell if your tint was light enough without using a tint meter was to hold a dime up on the inside and try to read the date from the outside. If you can read the date, your ok. Edit: Here you go, I did the search and found the thread I was talking about. Here it is. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/general-off-topic/44987-what-law-window-tint.html
  3. This is a direct quote from the Tn Drivers License Manual, page 59 for those who are keeping score.......and I quote "Always drive on the right side of a two-lane highway except when passing. If the road has four or more lanes with twoway traffic, drive in the right lanes except when passing other vehicles or turning left." Further on down the page........ "Four Lanes: A four-lane (or more) highway is divided in half by two solid yellow lines in the center. The two lanes on each side are divided by a dashed white line. Drive in the extreme right lane except when passing another vehicle or making a left turn." No where did it mention any considerations for what your speed is, so I take that to mean if your doing the speed limit or even over the speed limit, your goal should be to sustain continuous driving in the right lane when you can. You are not proving anything to anybody when you are in front of somebody and thinking your going to teach them a lesson and slow them down. All you are doing is exponentially increasing the possibility of the person behind you becoming increasingly enraged and making a hasty, bad decision that could kill you and many other innocent people by passing in a no passing zone, or on the shoulder......who knows because you just waved a red flag in front of the bull and your going to get bull headed decisions. Do I practice what I am talking about. Your dang skippy. I even go to extra efforts to stay out of the way and keep everybody reasonably happy = safe by moving over on to the shoulder on Hwy 96 between Dekalb Co. and Murfreesboro and letting people go by when I can do so safely going back and forth to work. Does this mean I am a guy that putters around like an oldtimer. On normal days when I am going to work and back, yes. Vehicle gas mileage, like most everything else, will statistically lay out on a bell curve. The optimum range for my best mileage is around the 50-53 mph range. Some days are not ordinary, like getting on the interstate and going a long distance, say Murfreesboro to Atlanta. Then I am probably the guy you see driving faster than most who will try to keep right except for passing. Sorry for the extended post and I hope Mr. Brooksjr that you were being sarcastic, for my safety as well as yours and the people around you.
  4. If you never tell them you did it, how would they know if you had one installed?
  5. I bought a used Ryder box truck with a GVWR of 32K if I remember right. I took the box off and put on a flat bed with an aerial ladder boom on it. I equipped it out and scaled it out and it weighs right at 20K lbs, so I bought the smallest tag I could to contain it and it was the 26K tag. Don't have much of an enclosed "freight" holding area other than tool boxes so it shouldn't be much of a mystery as to what is on the truck to the passing LEO.
  6. Just so I understand what you are saying, If you have a truck with a H4 tag for 26,000 lbs and less, you can get by without a CDL?
  7. Interesting, I stand corrected and have learned something today.
  8. If it has air brakes, it doesn't matter what it weighs. Air brakes is an automatic requirement for CDL. Also, the required CDL goes by what the vehicles GVWR on the door post is (manufacturer placard/sticker thingy), not what they registered it for on the license plate. On a side note, if they have a 26,000 lb plate and you weigh more than that, expect a long talking to and a big "reward".
  9. This. Not only have I heard about water heater problems while on trips but you have to watch those rubber hoses to the washing machine. I knew a fellow that went on a week trip and his hoses must have busted soon right after he left. Long story short, whole house had to have the floor replaced.
  10. That may be a true Ronald Reagan quote, and I liked Reagan alot. However, what this quote says and what he did to the unionized striking air traffic controllers seems to me to be opposites of each other.
  11. Manufacturing of current day incandescent bulbs is to cease 2012. Here's you some more info. and possibly some hope. Bachmann Pushes Back Against Incandescent Light Bulb Ban
  12. With all the talk about gas prices and middle east unrest, people have kindof forgot about the impending disappearance of incandescent light bulbs. I know lots of you guys have a SHTF stash of ammo, food, etc. How many of ya are stockpiling light bulbs? I haven't yet but thougt I might get a small stash

  14. This is what I did. I rode for a good while, til I got busted speeding in a subdivision, then rode down to DL station, etc. If I were you, I would get comfortable in your subdivision and just go to the DL station and take the test. Obviously, they can't ride with you so what happens on the driving test is they come outside and observe from the parking lot. That means that the test is something like "turn out of the parking lot, go down to the third driveway, turn around and come back". That is what my test was at the old DL station in M'boro. Just make sure to use the blinkers and don't forget to put your feet down when you stop . If your worried about driving unlicensed to the DL station, surely you know somebody with the M endorsement would be willing to help you out and ride it down for you. Edit: I am not going against the safety course, if you do take it, make sure you tell the insurance company because that could result in a reduction of your rates :) Don't spend the 200 bucks just to avoid the official test however............
  15. Back in the day, my dad the mechanical engineer, used a milling machine and basically routed out the axle slot in the block and then we found a wooden rod to fit and drilled a hole all the way through. The wooden rod was then layed into the routed out area and epoxied in, then finished flush with wood putty to make it disappear. He also turned the wheels in a lathe to make them true and smooth. Car ran great.
  16. I'm all for the lowest price but try not to beat yourself up over three cents a gallon. I used to until I did some math. If you bought 20 gallons at the 2.91 price instead of the 2.94 you would have only saved 60 cents. Yes it is 60 cents but is that enough to get all worked up over??? Now if the gap was bigger, yeah, I'd be squawking and looking for a cheaper place. Don't get me wrong however, I'm all in favor of way cheaper gas all around
  17. The real kicker for me is related to this on a local scale. Everybody is jumping up and down to cut the spending, so they start mentioning what they are going to cut, then everybody starts screaming like little pigs "we can't cut that, that's important and we can't do without that". Example, tonight on the tv news in Nashville there was a story about the Shelbyville City commissoners talking about cutting the budget by reducing or totally doing away with garbage pickup. The story went on to say there were people lined up out the door to protest. I don't know about the rest of you but I do not have garbage pickup at my house and I continue to live. I take my garbage to the local county dumpster and put it in there........ GASP!! The real fun part is that the dumpsters are usually on the way to something else, so they are not out of the way. So what's the point of this little dribble.............we can talk about cutting budgets all day long but, until we actually decide that we are going to do it and adapt to the outcome, it will never happen. Somebody is going to get cut somewhere, who is going to be first. If they want to cut some service that I have now, and I don't have many out here in the sticks, I believe I'd be man enough to see the bigger picture and take it like a man. On the national scale, you have to get past the corruption/support from all the different interest groups of all the congress men and senators. I don't see that happening. They'll be in favor of cutting stuff from everybody elses state but let somebody talk about cutting something in their state, expect to hear screaming piggies......... /END RANT
  18. I see your point here and to some extent, I agree. What WWMike is talking about, however, is an offer that is so low that it is offensive, might as well as give it away. I couldn't do that to somebody and I wonder why people think that it is ok to do that myself? Of course, I'm not much of a haggler anyhow...........
  19. I've never thought about that. I think your right. Especially if they warmed it up good as they were applying it. Would have to come out of a tar spraying type truck used for paving.
  20. I doubt the first sentence because I think you could chisel it in stone and put it on their desk - and they still wouldn't get it but, I agree wholeheartedly with the other two.
  21. Well, this is true but, when for the most part you vote out a turkey and only have another turkey to replace it with, then what. All I see is an unending parade of turkeys that will get voted in and voted right back out. Meanwhile, nothing improves. Note: I am not saying that everyone of them is a turkey, there are undoubtedly some good ones, but those are few and far between.
