  1. Usually they're comparable. They're sort of a clearance house for end of line & last year's stuff. The one here in Tullahoma is basically crap & certainly no cheaper on most stuff than anywhere else, but every now & then they're worth a visit. Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  2. Found an online Hot Deal voucher for Dunham's. It's for the Big Game Warrior 16' In store price is $84.99 Get the checkout nerk to scan the barcode. Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  3. Trespasser don't taste half bad. Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  4. The Savage Swede earned it's keep last night. I shot her right at dark (4:50) on my favorite patch of TVA land. Unfortunately, some of the Well-To-Dos who live in a nearby subdivision object to scruffy hunters & by the time I'd got her dragged into a clearing, the cops showed up. After a tense, although very pleasant, 45 minute conversation with the local Deputy & TWRA Officer it was determined that whilst close to the houses, I had done nothing wrong. They even dragged her out to my truck for me!
  5. I'm pretty sure it hasn't seen a full box of ammo. I need to run the number, but I believe it's an '81 model. It's the 'Westerner' version without the bottom metal, but....SO pretty! Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  6. As it came..... And with a decent scope on sensible mounts. Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  7. I don't do morning hunts (actually.....mornings.) but come Hell or high water I'll be out again tomorrow afternoon. Peak feed time is 3:36 to 5:46 & I'm hoping to bump into some meat on the lease. I've only hunted it once during muzzleloader & I know all the property around gets a lot of pressure, so I'm hoping my 'sanctuary' tactic pays off. I know it did last year! My only concern is which rifle to take!
  8. Go us!!
  9. I've heard it said, in fact, I've said it myself, that the .30 caliber of 1906 is the finest, most versatile cartridge in the world. I always felt justified in parroting this pearl of wisdom, because logic &, frankly, hundreds of thousands of people prove it to be true. However I always felt a wee tad hypocritical saying this, as a complete caliber whore, because until today....I've never actually owned one. I've bought several, but only because it's the cheapest way to buy a Savage that I've immediately rebarrelled to something sleeker, sexier, faster, bigger etc... I've never actually touched a single round of from an '06. In. My. Life So now as the immensely proud owner of an American classic, the Rifleman's Rifle, the venerable Winchester model 70, lovingly nestled in a stunning, quilted walnut stock; I need someone to school me on the rascal. What bullets work for which critter? What powders are giving the best, consistent loads? Who likes what brass? What've you shot, how far was it & how happy were you with the performance? Who wants to buy a Savage 110 in .280ai? Why did I have the visceral urge to buy this thing? Is it compulsory to buy a full sized 1911 now? Shouldn't it have come with a Greencard?
  10. Ordered & giddy to go play with the chrono!
  11. Problem solved! Thanks (again) Garufa! Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  12. No, I'm not kidding. I'm wanting to know how the barrel locks into battery. Is it purely the breech block locking into the ejection port of the slide, or is there another lockup point? I'm asking, because I'm trying to figure out if I can use a 6" Glock 40 barrel in my 3-and-a-bit" 29. The idea(s) being to A.) Give me a HIGH powered, light weight pistol for hunting hogs in the Florida palmettoes (literally, hands & knees stuff) B.) Save me having to buy a 40
  13. I reckon that's my next day off figured out. Thanks for the heads up! Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  14. Oh cool, thanks! Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  15. Ooooh.... Where's Glock located? That might be a simpler option, rather than having to buy tools. Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  16. I'm looking at replacing the factory sights on my 29 (apparently, something I should've done the minute I bought it....) Can anyone recommend a good, low cost sight set? I'm thinking I'd like fiber optics, but I'm more interested in rugged & easy to use than anything. Tritium is not needed. I also don't want to double the value on 2 tiny lumps of steel......
  17. Loads are still pretty similar..... Sent from a mountain somewhere, using telepathy.
  18. My savage LWH .308 LOVES it! Hard to find .308 data, but if you want mine, I'll happily pm it to you. I'm getting very close to '06 velocity with 165s
  19. https://m.facebook.com/Templar-Shooting-Sports-1605807509648153/?tsid=0.4973432166462841&source=typeahead Templar Shooting Sports opened it's doors this morning! Can't wait to go play tomorrow morning
  20. I am really, really struggling to find a good accurate load for this thing. It's a savage action, pillar bedded in a boyd's stock, fully floated, 26", 1:9 magnum profile barrel. Chamber was reamed by Bison Gunworks. I've had several barrels from Bison & they're all been sub-moa shooters, so I'm doubtful that it's a barrel issue. I've only tried the heavier end of the bullet spectrum so far (Hornady 162 eld-x, Berger 168vld & Hornady 154 sst) with imr7828 & Retumbo, keeping velocity to around the 2850-2900 range. The best 3 shot group I've managed is 1", but shots 4 & 5 open the group up to nearer 2" (timed 3 minutes between shots) I'm really undecided whether to try lighter, say, 139gn pills at hopefully 3200+ (which I know is doable) because I've already got a 6.5 Swede that pretty much fills the 140gn bullet niche, although I don't get the speed I could with the .280 I built this with longer range, western hunts in mind where shots 'could' range out to 600+ yds & I was hoping to be able to go heavier on bullet weight to take advantage of the higher B.C.s offered over a .30 & carry more weight & energy than my 6.5 for large mule deer & elk sized critters. I'm thinking I need to try different powders. I know rl22 is the go-to for .280, but it's too temperature sensitive for my needs. I'm told that IMR/H4831sc could work. So, in y'all's opinions; should I go light & super fast, or try to find an accurate, heavier option? Anyone wanna share recipes, cos I'm tearing my hair out here!
  21. Y'all have guns???
  22. Oh man, those little .17s really get under your skin! I'm only looking to offload my marlin to upgrade to a .17WSM. Ballistics are spectacular compared to a .22LR, although even a gentle breeze makes 200yds seem like over 1k. Wind drift is murder with these rascals, but once you get your drops dialed in; saltines/charcoal briquettes at 200 are a blast!
  23. Gimme a holler when they make a 16" lever action version.....
  24. Atlanta cutlery have a TON of old Nepalese Martini Henrys in .450-577 Some are junk decorations, many are restoreable with a lot of work, lots are restoreable with a bit of work, a few are fully functional. Obviously price depends on condition, but they run the gamut from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand. A fair example will cost a bit more up front, but if you don't mind getting dirty, you can build a really nice rifle by using one as a base & sourcing parts. There are even online tutorials of forming your own brass.
