Beginning to Yote hunt, suggestions
Handsome Rob replied to Bosgarage57's topic in Hunting and Fishing
As far as I'm aware (be warned, I have been wrong before) it's illegal to hunt coyotes at night with a spotlight or NV gear in the State of Tennessee. -
I don't & won't have a credit card, but I've been nailed on both my debit cards, twice. Both times right after a trip up to Wyoming involving stops at 'foreignly run' motels. First time was to the tune of $32,000+ on my personal card, this past time was for $124,000 on the joint account card. I pay for card protection & I was notified of the charges within 24hrs of them occurring on the accounts. Nothing was actually removed from my accounts this time, but in 2010 I had to send an EMail to every single company that had been purchased from, requesting a refund before the bank would re-credit my account. Oddly, they were all in Spain & they were all companies selling....umm....'enhancement devices' for men. I still can't figure out how this happens as I have a $1000 limit on each card. That took some 'splaining to The Wife! My recent trip to Florida was funded with pre-paid debit cards. If I'm staying at motels in the future, this is all I'll use.

Also, cheap as crap & if I ever do break it (if I ain't done it by now, I doubt I could) I can get a replacement for well under $100. Hell, I can grab one on EBay for $65!

Holy cow! What do y'all really need a watch to do????? I've been wearing the same G-100 model G-Shock for 9 years now. 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I've only ever taken it off to replace the battery (once) & replace the strap (I wore it out) The only features I look for in a watch (other than telling time, obviously) are I want an analogue face + a digital, 24hr display. I want an alarm I don't need to reset every night & although I never realized it'd be handy, living right on the EST/CST border, the Dual Time feature is really handy. I don't need it to play MP3s, make me a coffee, send my exact location to 16 satellites, call me when my oil needs changing or any of that crap. Battery life need not be infinite or perpetual, swapping out a battery costs about $10 at any jewelers (I'd rather pay someone to make sure the seals remain intact) It's waterproof, shock, scratch, 5 dog & 7 cat proof. Bleach, oil, gas, diesel & detergent proof. It's a minor nuisance having to change the time when I travel to the UK, so I bought a cheap, $5 Wally special that I keep on UK time. I doubt I'll ever replace it until it actually quits on me & when I do, I'm going to get the same thing again.

And you're all racists!

I'll be over at 3ish.

Well, I had to fire a long-term employee today. But I also received a package of AR parts including some bits I didn't order & wasn't charged for. 50/50 so far. Let's see what happens later.....

Thanks for the help guys, I've decided to forgo the luxury of a red dot & go with a basic set of irons. At last the battery won't run out! :)
-
I even have the original ramped front, taller blade installed & sighted with the Skinner. It's included :D
-
I've had a Skinner sight installed on my 336/.44 It requires a taller front sight, but it's by far & away the best you can get.......and it's for sale ;)
-
Aaaaalrighty then.....2/3 irons, 1/3 budget reflex. Recommend me some irons? :) (gas block, not rail)

So, for the newbie EBR owner on an extreeeemely tight budget (like under $100 tight) can anyone recommend me a sight for fast target aquisition? I've bought a flat-top upper for my AR & I have no sights. At some point I'd like to throw on a set of flip-up sights (would this be a better option?) but I kinda like the idea of a non-magnifying, fast to point sight. It's pretty much a range queen that I can let a friend's kid shoot (I'll probably end up banging off a round or two....) instead of him trying to shoulder the gun as-is with a 20" stainless bull barrel & scope. I reckon it'd serve for home/livestock defense too, so long range isn't important. Obviously I'm on a hugely limited budget, but I don't want to go with the God-knows-what-I'm-buying Chiwanese EBay special.

Who do you think is looking for you? :tinfoil:

I'm laughing about it now, but it took a couple of hours for my color to come back & the shaking to stop. The Wife, a non-gun person if ever there was one, thinks it's funny as all hell! Stupid is as stupid does, but stupid only does stuff like this once.

I often practice trigger drills with my rifles. I like to be as familiar with all of my guns as humanly possible before I take them out hunting. Well, today was the turn of the trusty old '94 I unloaded it this morning (It's the ONLY rifle I keep loaded up, due to our coyote problem) & put it back in the safe. I know I unloaded it because I was there when I did it. So, when I grabbed it just now to practice, I KNEW it was unloaded........ The Wife thinks I'm an asshat. You think I'm an asshat & honestly, I agree with all of you. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CHECK, DOUBLE CHECK & THEN RE-CHECK ANY FIREARM BEFORE YOU PULL THE TRIGGER!!! Thankfully all that was damaged was my hunting room window, the jeep & my shorts.

Funnily enough I just got done packing for a Florida hog whomping. I also choose my clothing with a mind to carrying extra gear, if necessary. Pant HAVE to have generous pockets. I've packed out a 60# hog, boned out, in my pants pockets before now! I also carry a cheap, Wally World 'packable day-pack' IN my pack. It weighs under 3oz & folds to the size of a baseball. I can throw that on with my fanny pack for an exta 22l of carrying space if I need to. Stuffed with dry grass, it also makes an excellent pillow/seat ;) Here's what's in my pack.... (again, knife & leatherman on my belt) 2, 1l bottles of water Water purification tabs 2 Bic lighters Ferro rod Large folding knife 6, 1gal ziplock bags 1, 39gal trash bag microfiber towel 20 Ibuprofen 20 Tums Chewing gum 25' paracord GPS Compass 6 safety pins 2 spare broadheads + 1 blunt (replace with 5 rounds of whatever caliber if rifle hunting) 6" file Diamond stone snacks as needed Thermacell + refills + 100% deet Packable day pack. Slingshot & 30 .40 lead balls (I get bored :) ) This lot can keep me in the woods for upto 3 days, in a nice climate (& it has a couple of times!) & weighs in at a shade under 8 pounds. It all fits nicely in a Cabelas Guide System fanny pack, with room to haul out the meat of one, average sized, boned out hog.

Wow, y'all carry a bunch of stuff! Knife's on my belt, as is my Leatherman. In my pack/stand bags are: Deer drag Bow hanger Screw-in step 2 bottles of water Pack of gum Flashlight. If I'm hunting hogs, say in Florida our Texas, there's a LOT more I carry, but that's my regular deer stuff. Never needed anything else!

I was shooting my AR a couple of weeks back & it sounds (through my ear defenders & tinnitus) like a sack of springs being kicked down stairs. I can't recall it sounding like this before, but I honestly haven't shot it much. It had the A2 buttstock (if that means anything) & it sounds like the buffer spring, but I'm so unfamiliar with the platform I'm only guessing. Any clues? If anyone is local to Tullahoma & needs to shoot it to hear it, you'd be welcome to run it at the range &see what you think.

Gen2 19. Can't imagine anything much better.

The guy advertised it on Franklin Co. Buy, Sell, Trade on Faceache for $1000. The pics he'd posted were about 3 years old, when it was last roadworthy. When I got to his address he took my out to the back field, told me he'd take $800 & threw me the key to his backhoe! 4 new tires, fresh oil, coolant in the radiator, 5 gallons of gas & a new battery later (along with judicious application of a steam cleaner) & I drove it 19 miles home! Right now it's sat at H&T Offroad in Tullahoma getting a few 'tweeks' Nothing major. It's already had a 2½" lift (the original springs had been reversed, now replaced) & it's running a pretty sporty little 350 Katana through the standard 3-speed box. It still needs a wiper setup, speedo cable, fuel & temp gauges & 'cosmetics' but I'm half tempted to leave it looking rough as a bear's ass.

Meh. Won't work. I played pro-paintball for a few years back in the UK (Actually, my first visit Stateside was to play paintball...) & the guns we had set up had a trigger upll weight of about 2 oz. The trigger on a paintball gun is more correctly just a switch. They all (well, 99% of 'em) work on tiny microswitches. There's no recoil to worry about, no mechanical friction of a sear & absolutely zero creep or overtravel. Most triggers, when correctly tuned, only move the tiniest fraction of an inch & the only spring pressure is that of the switch itself.
