I had trouble with fully flat wadcutters in my .357/.38 too. Everything else fed fine. I also have feeding trouble with my .45lc, if the C.O.A.L. is a thou over the standard 1.6"

I've double & triple checked all the data & I'm 5gn under the max load with this powder! I may have exaggerated the pressure needed to load the bullet, slightly ;) The unnerving thing is just seeing exactly how much powder its crammed into these rascals! I still weigh every charge & measure every round I load & everything is as it should be. I guess I'm just being a pansy. I usually only load .45 LC & .45-70 so the physical size of these is just intimidating! -
I just got done reloading a couple of dozen .458 Win Mags. Holy hell, but just loading them gave me the Willies! It's a compressed load (110% density) of 70gn of IMR4320, magnum primer under a 500gn Barnes TSX flat based Spitzer. Reading the manuals, this is well under the safe maximum, especially for a ruger #1 but the whole 2-hands-&-all-my-body-weight-on-the-press-handle thing has me really nervous about touching one off! Anyone else felt like this, or am I being overly paranoid?

I can't legally carry a pistol (filthy foreigner :D) but I always have my Henry .22 on my boat, during the day. (it's beaver season all year ;) )

Need some help with some long range shooting/hunting
Handsome Rob replied to my82cam's topic in Long Guns
If it was me, I'd learn to get closer. Much easier than learning to shoot long range if you can't practice shooting long range! ;) More Elk are taken at under 100yds than any other range. Hell, most of my friends out West hunt with traditional bows & round-ball blackpowder & they keep me in Elk steaks! -
The rifle to have--if you only have one......

Lee Enfield! 10 shots, low recoil, halfway between .30-30 & .308, cheap & readily available ammo (& guns) detatchable box magazine & well proven for transferring critters & bad guys to the past tense for 150 years. What's not to love! -

Doi (facepalm) Sorry, I misunderstoodlified! :slap:

I did not know that! Even if transferred through an FFL???

Sorry if this has been asked before, or if I'm asking in the wrong place. What is the legal constraints of being gifted a long gun, A.) in another State & B.) from an out of State visitor? I'm driving down to Georgia this weekend & I have a friend that wants to give me an old rifle (A rolling block Remington in .43 Spanish) & I have another (I'm a lucky bastard!) coming down from Michigan who has a rifle for me too. Both of these are genuinely gifts to me & no cash is being tranfered in any way, shape or form. Will I need to go through a Ga FFL for the Remington, or will it have to be checked through a Tn FFL? What about the rifle coming from Michigan (I have no clue what it is. It's a birthday present)

How do you hide gun/or accy purchases from the wife or GF?
Handsome Rob replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
Another 'I don't' here. I'm not always 100% honest about the price, but this is more of a game than anything these days. She knows damn well I paid more than I'm telling her, but I know damn well it's not as much as she thinks, so it all works out in the end! We've always had our own individual finances (It really does save arguments & stress if she has hers, I have mine & we both toss an equal amount into the Joint-account-kitty to cover bills) & I spend whatever I like, as long as I have it. She does the same. -
That bad huh?

Anyone else had to deal with the USPS Insurance service? I sold a flintlock rifle on another forum a couple of weeks ago. Wrapped it up well & mailed it off to Texas, all safe, sound & insured for $400. 2 days later, it arrived in Texas, unsafe, unsound, but still insured. God only knows how, but they managed to crush the stock along the forearm, rendering the rifle, obviously, unuseable. I put forward an online claim for the vale of replacement parts only, including the shipping, but not labor costs (It's only a ½ hour job) for a total of $274.90 The costs were a direct quote from Lyman Direct & a printed quote was attached to the claim, along with detailed photoraphs. This was on July 19th. This morning, I received a text from the guy I sold the rifle to (I had USPS ship him the check & he'll take care of the repair) with an attached letter from USPS stating that they'd approved the claim, but for a lesser amount. Their own 'research' shows that the replacement value is $71.40 Where in the hell they've pulled that particular figure from I do not know, although I'd venture a guess......If I could buy a replacement Lyman Great Plains stock for $71.40, I'd buy every one I could! Lyman Direct is the ONLY place you can buy a new stock. Can anyone advise me about an appeals process? The letter says that the payout can be appealed, but I'm damned if I can find any information on their site, that is any use at all! Anyone else had to go through this? What're my chances at getting the full claimed amount? Wish I'd just claimed it as a total loss now.....
