  1. I know it's a little stupid, but while trying to buy a BCG for my rifle build I stopped over on AR15.com with the hopes of finding one in the EE section. A guy had just listed several parts (to be sold seperatly) and the BCG was one of them. I sent an IM telling the guy to give me the total cost of said item, and an email stating I would have to send a money order. He made no mention of payment type and I just wanted to make sure he was cool not using PP. An hour after my message and email were sent I noticed another member posted an "IM sent" on two items, one of which was the BCG. So no mistake could be made, I edited my original post with an "I'll take it". That phrase is used to stake claim to the item for sale, and gives you the ability to post feedback on the seller. About an hour later the other member also posts an "I'll take it". Seeing that I agreed to buy the item first, I thought the bolt was mine. I recieved an email from the seller today telling me the bcg and reciever were sold to the other member. He also stated that he would let me know "if things fall through". My reply.....No thanks! Sounds like the seller might have recieved more than asking price. I tried to leave negative feedback and got a slap on the wrist. This is the first problem I've ever had buying from a board. If I'm wrong... I'll apologize. What do you folks think?
  2. I thought I was the only one that had nutjob in-laws. Feels good to know I'm not alone.
  3. I think they had a few issues when they came out. People didn't like the fact the barrel couldn't be replaced like the 700's. Buy a Savage if ya want a hunting rifle that you can beat around. Not bad rifles for the money, and the Accutrigger is nice.
  4. I had two nice 8's in the back yard on Tuesday. Gotta love deer season.
  5. Nikon or Leupold have good glass. I've used both, as well as others, with great results. These two seem to pull in good light for hunting. I prefer a 3x9 or 4x12x40. Normally a 4x12 will set on my big rifles. Most of the time, while in the woods, my scope is set on 4.5X anyway. So the above choices make the most sense. Also ask yourself if you want a fine duplex or heavy. One of my deer rifles is set up to shoot open fields and because of that I chose a fine duplex. My ML is set up to shoot in heavy cover, that scope has a very heavy duplex. For me, it makes it easy to find the target in low light and thick underbrush. I like these two the most but I know there are others that are just as good. Burris has a good rep but can't say I've used one while hunting. Let us know what ya get.
  6. Get a chance to read his book (Decision Points) do it.
  7. Glock 17 9mm Marlin 22mag Savage .243 or Ruger .243 Remington 870 in 12 or 20 Been watching this post for some time now. Figured I'd chime in with my picks and why I picked them. Spending no more money than allowed and having to pick 4 guns... G17-- Why? because both my kids and wife shoot it well. High round count. Knowing that most people miss when shooting under stress a high round count was a deciding factor. Reloading under stress can cause problems. As long as ya don't have ftf or fte 4 people shooting the G17's would be hard to ignore. Marlin 22mag--- I've always loved this round. A little more bang with not much more noise or weight than the 22lr. If needed... head and neck shots take down large game animals. Savage .243---Cheap to buy new or used. Killed deer at long range with one shot. Fast and flat shooter. Love my .243's. The kids were shooting them at the age of 9 because of the low recoil. Remington 870 with #4 buck. Sorry, but if I'm in a house the shotgun will be my "go to" gun. Knowing that I don't hit moving targets well the SG helps make up for that downfall. I love my 12ga with 20 inch barrel. It's as good up close as a carbine. Pick a choke that fits your situation. I've enjoyed reading this thread. I understand the .357 choice, but I've never had much experience with it other than shooting a couple revolvers. My picks were the result of my hunting experiences and family time at the range. I'd like to see how much the picks would change with a maximum number of three guns. At three guns... I'd have to pick AR, 870, and G17.
  8. Most coyote aren't very brave. In fact most are on the cautious/uneducated side. A number of factors will determin how active they can be. You might be seeing more dogs because of the lack of food, breeding season, or a bunch of young pups that don't know any better. Take a little time and find out where they are coming from and what they are eating. Find the travel lanes they use and figure out the hot spots to hunt. Look for a lot of scat and tracks. Not just one set of tracks but multiple sets of tracks. If ya find tracks ( in one area) going in different directions you have found a good area to start hunting or trapping.
  9. Nothing wrong with the 12ga, but don't believe the the 70 yard kill shot that Carlson's claim. Try and keep it under 45 yards and be ready to shoot again. I was lucky enough to attend the LBL hunt for many years and unlucky enough to see a large number of dogs get away with the "Dead Coyote" load. Most shots failed because of too great of a distance or the lack of a follow up shot. They are tough animals with tough hides and imho T shot is the smallest that should be used. I liked using the 12ga because it was easy for me to handle while using hand calls. A scoped rifle was just too much for me to bring together on a moving dog. I missed way more than I connected. If you feel good about using a rifle go for it. An 06 or 270 kills them deader than dead. If calling doesn't produce results ya might try trapping them. Trapping takes a little dedication but will reduce the population a little faster. However, you will never get rid of all of them. At some point they will come back.
  10. Yep, I agree, move back to Tennessee.

    Truck A/C

The clicking noise could be the clutch or it could be the system is low on charge. When the ac system leaks enough freon out the low pressure switch will kick off the compressor. This keeps the compressor from pumping all the oil out of the system. 1 Ask why the compressor is clicking. a. Could be low on freon. If that's the case the leak needs to be found first. Dye can be added to a leaking system to help find the leak. Symtoms of a low charge. Slow to cool, not cold enough and...wait for it....a rapid clicking noise. b. Could be a weak clutch. Some clutches (not all) can be replaced without removing freon. Most times when the clutch is going out the clutch kicks off and stays off until it cools down. Symtoms of a bad clutch is...car cools good, then it gets hot, and cools again after car sets (ignition off) for a bit. Another symtom could be the compressor never turns on. As long as 12 volts is sent to the clutch (along with having a ground) the clutch should engage. If it dosn't the magnet has failed or the clutch gap is too great. If the clutch is the problem there is no need replace cond, evap, or drier (unless the system has been open). c. A failing low pressure switch could cause the compressor to kick off at the wrong time. Instead of kicking off at lets say 19psi it kicks off at 30psi. This happens but not often. d. If the compressor has failed... do yourself a favor and have the drier replaced. Make sure the sysem is flushed too. Metal that's been pushed through the system can stop up a line, orfice tube, or expansion valve. Hope this helps
  12. It's probably going to be mid length. Rifle length isn't even an option. I like the weight and pointability of the 16" barrel. Doing an SBR has entered my mind as well, but the thought of the stamp thing just turns me off.
  13. That's the info I'm looking for. Buying a barrel is the next step. I'm gonna install a low profile gas block and at least an 11" rail. ( I like the looks of the Troy exteme rail ) I can get the same look out of either gas systems, but if the mid length makes it more versatile in some way..... then mid length it is.
  14. I like the layout as much as I love the guns.
  15. My question is...with a 16" barrel is there any real advantage to the mid length? I've shot rifle length and carbine length and I can't say I can tell the difference. Is the mid length just the flavor of the month?
  16. I don't care what kind of snake it is as long as it's not poisonous. This picture will help ya determine that. Stay away from the ones on the right. Straight lines behind the bung hole is a bad snake. Interlocking lines are non venomous.
  17. Putting all the other stuff aside....were they hot?
  18. A number of places will not allow tracer ammo due to the chance of sparking a fire. Might want to think about that. Just my 2cents.
  19. I've owned a Bushmaster (rifle length) and never had a problem with it. I'd buy another one for the right price.
