  1. Just breaking in the barrel the same way I've done all my long guns. Why so much? For the first thirty rounds I was not just cleaning the barrel but looking for anything loose or odd. Figured cleaning the barrel while the upper was apart wouldn't hurt.
  2. Being the first on I've built I expected a problem of some kind but it never happened.Cleaned the barrel after each shot for the first 30 rounds. Then cleaned after every three rounds after that. When the trigger was pulled for the first time I have to admit I was a little nervous. Would it go click, boom or kaboom? Everything went well and the groups (at 50 yards) were better than expected. The Battlecomp took some getting use to. I'd like to try a little heavier buffer just to see what the difference would be. I can see another build in the future.
  3. Nice! Like to build an SBR, just don't want to do the paper work. Keep us updated.
  4. We are about the same size. I've used a Titan for years and have no complaints. Over the years I've had the Ol'man, Viper, and Titan. The Titan is hands down the best, but that's my opinion. I've also had the chance to hunt out of a couple API's. API had a real big climber at one point. It was even bigger than the Titan but it was much heavier. It was so big that when climbing I couldn't set on the cross bar when pulling up the lower section up. I didn't like the chain on the API either, a little too hard to set up in the dark.
  5. I didn't want to put a quad rail on this gun. The Troy was thin enough to add a AFG. I still lack open sights, sling, and maybe a light.
  6. It's not finished but getting close. Daniel Defense upper, barrel, BCG and low profile gas block. Spikes lower with Magpul Miad and CTR. Troy 11" Alpha rail Battlecomp 2.0 BCM Gunfighter charging handle
  7. I'm between 1 and 2. Watching football, baseball, or softball games is enjoyable for me. I get into a little more than most but not so much I call into talk radio and make an arse of myself. Listening to a sports radio station kills me. The callers always use the words "we" and "us". "We need to run the ball more" The only thing that links the caller and the team is the callers money.
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was: Runners on first and second with one out. High fly ball and the SS went back calling for the ball. I.F. was called but the ball was dropped allowing the runners to advance without tagging. Now that left runners on second and third with two outs. Now I have to look it up and relive it all over again.
  9. I think we have the same assessment other than the judement of the ump. I also thought the ball was too deep for a double play. Nope! Most umps take into consideration the hight and angle of the ball and the infielders position. A ball hit high with an infielder firmly set under it in the outfield will almost always be called. On top of that, the umps try to make the call early enough to allow base runners to advance at their own risk if they desire. All this is calculated by "blue" in a matter of seconds. Like I tell the teams I coach, don't leave it in the hands of the umpire, if ya do it's gonna bite ya. I've never played (back in the day) or coached against anyone that intenionally dropped a ball. Could it happen? Sure, but most players want to win not cheat.
  10. I'm a Braves fan so this is hard to say.... it was a good call. Even if an infielder is in the outfield the infield fly can be called if the ump deems it catchable. The call is completley a judgement call. Turning a double play from that depth would have been hard to do and I guess that's what makes the call hard to swallow.
  11. S&W offered to smooth out a J-frame trigger for me a few years back, I think the cost was around $60. I never took them up on it but a friend of mine did. When his gun returned the trigger felt much better than stock.
  12. Seems a fair number of people are starting to hunt with the 300 BO now. I think the Whisper is close ballisticlly? The guy that's filming (not shooting) this hunt has used the Whisper for some time now.
  13. Hahahah I had to look to see how old you are. That's something I would have done (and did do) when I was in my 20's. Good job!
  14. One of the best looking trucks on the market.
  15. Ever have a sister, mother, daughter, or wife die from it? If ya haven't...your opinion might change. Setting back watching a woman stripped of a breast (if not two), hair, and dignity isn't easy. Nothing wrong with funding a project to try and help prevent or treat any kind of cancer. Will it ever be cured? I have my doubts, but never hurts to try. When I used the term "your" I didn't mean you ETP. I just used it to make any person that reads this think before they type. I just wanted to add one more thing. I never get tired of the pink ribbons, NRA ads, or hunting stickers.
  16. They show to have a 11" Troy Alpha rail (fde) in stock that I've been looking for. Never heard of the copany before so I'm a little leery about ordering. The price also seems a little high, seems the were selling for around the $150 mark back when I started this build. If ya know of any other company that has the Troy in stock feel free to let me know.
  17. I thought people from WV had to learn to shoot before going off to college. Things must have changed some since I left. That's awesome she wants to learn. Sounds like ya had a good time. GO HERD!!
  18. It sounds crazy, but I really like the orange/green color scheme on the ESEE knives.
  19. Took the wife, daughter, and camera to ORSA today. It was a great day to do some picture taking. Both of the girls are getting a little more comfortable with the handguns. Still have a flinch every now and again, but who dosen't. Seems it's always hard to motivate them to go, but when the shooting starts we all have fun.
  20. I try and meet in open parking lots as well. Meeting anyone from the net for the first time will put you on edge. Back in 2006, while on a Land Between the Lakes coyote hunt, I shared a cabin with some fellow coyote hunters I met online. You want to talk about sleeping with one eye open. I had a fear of waking up with my undies on backward.
  21. Checked the book out of the library a couple days ago. It was what I expected it to be and a little more. I thought it was a good read with most of the stuff being old news. And it dosen't bother me that he's selling his own account of what happened.
  22. I'm a two point guy as well. All my experience comes from hunting. The gun seems to always be in a good controllable position. I have a Gear Sector sling and can't say anything bad about it.
