  1. I agree with all of the above and still bought the Huntertown Guardian SS.  Money wasn't an issue, but in the end the take apart and cleaning capability was there in both, stainless baffles in both, excellent companies and warranties for both, and sound reduction was similar or equal.  I completely agree that you have to buy what makes you comfortable.  Do your research and go with what you think is best.  I don't think you will be disappointed in any of them unless you end up with all three and can compare. For me, the Sparrow wasn't $250 better than the Huntertown, but you may think it is.  Buy one and enjoy it, that's what it's all about.
  2. You could have just went to his FFL and completed the transfer and brought it home with you since you were there in person.  For long guns, you can legally complete the transfer in the other state in person.  Handguns always have to go to an FFL in your state, but not long guns.
  3. I went through a similar process  just a month or so ago.  At the begininning I had my mind set on a Silencerco Sparrow SS.  In the end, I ended up going with a Huntertown Arms Guardian SS.  From everything I read about them, the performance was very similar but the cost is almost half. My most important criteria was having stainless internals so I could clean it in my ultrasonic cleaner.  For almost the exact same price as just the Sparrow I am getting the Huntertown and paid my tax stamp.  The performance is very close from everything I have read and I read everything I could find.  I am waiting for Guns and Leather to get mine in from the manufacturer so it will be a while before I have it in hand, but I was impressed enough with what I found online to also order the Guardian 9mm version.  They had it in stock so I got it and sent it off two weeks ago.  In the end, I didn't decide based on 1 or 2 db difference, but rather cost/db value and ability to clean the baffles.   Good luck with your purchase.
  4.   I highly doubt a seller's FFL is checking the gun in NCIC before shipping it, but maybe they are.  I suspect most are just packing it up and sending it.  I am not saying what they told you is wrong, I just don't see it happening.  At the end of the day, the receiving FFL isn't going to be out anything but a little time if there is an issue.  The buyer will of course be out whatever money they paid for the gun and background fees.  I understand if you like your FFL and are willing to pay the extra to use them, I am just too cheap to add the extra expense.  I try to be sure the seller is legit before buying, but there are no guarantees in life.
  5.   I disagree with this unless the sellers FFL won't charge you.  No need to pay $30 or more just to have the FFL send it.  Have him pack it up good, take it to a UPS Shipping Center (not a UPS Store) or Post Office and send it to your FFL.  Leave no markings on the outside that shows it is a gun.     Shouldn't cost more than $30 dollars to ship it in most cases.  It's not hard unless you run into an idiot at the post office. It's perfectly legal and pretty simple.  Like said above, just make sure your FFL will receive from an individual.
  6. When I upped my membership to endowment last month, I specifically asked them to remove me from any and all lists.  I don't recall any email lately and only 1 regular mail.  May be worth calling and asking them to remove you from everything.
  7. Will you be working downtown or somewhere else?  Traffic can make a difference depending where you will be at.     Oh yeah, and Welcome!
  8.   Thanks.  I don't know about anyone else's Weimi, but Kennedy is food motivated beyond belief.  He is a clock when it comes time to eat.   Jax is cute little guy, of course I am partial to blue one's.  I am sure he will be a great dog.
  9. Great Topic. I am a self professed dog freak and all the Weim pics are right up my alley. Mine is unbelievably spoiled. It's my house, but he runs it. The last few pics are from my phone and not great, but they pretty well sum up his life. This is Kennedy. Play time out on the farm. Then time for dinner Then time to hang out. and last, time to snooze (yes, those are my legs trying to share the couch)
  10. This is a good article that test's many solutions.  He explains some of the chemistry.     http://www.6mmbr.com/ultrasonic.html
  11. I haven't used mine yet, but I bought the large one at Harbor Freight.  It is the same maker of the Lyman one which has decent reviews and it has excellent reviews at Harbor Freight.  I got it on sale, with an additional 20% off using the coupon in the American Rifleman magazine.  I think I ended up paying just over $60 for it.  I looked at all of them before purchasing that one.  Cost wasn't an issue, I just felt it was the overall best value for what I needed.   I am typically skeptical of most of the harbor freight stuff, but this was one that appears to be worth it.   http://www.harborfreight.com/25-liter-ultrasonic-cleaner-95563.html

Those adds are on there all of the time.  Scam, scam, scam.  They take them down and then put them up, and on and on and on.
  14. I don't really care either way personally, but let's be clear about what this is.  This isn't about a Muslim wanting be in a Christian group or any combination thereof, this is a about any of them allowing someone who is homosexual to be a part of the group.  No more do I believe that it is the University's right to tell a religious group who they can and can't have as members, do I believe that the state should tell a private organization what their rules can and can't be.  This isn't about "leaders" in a group, this is  about religious bigotry, but lets not disguise this as a Catholic vs. Muslim issue.  They are probably more agreeing on this than anything else in history.  As long as the groups are not getting Vanderbilt funds, I don't see why they should not be allowed to do as they please, but if they are getting funding from the school (keep in mind that using school facilities to me is getting funding), then for me it is all fair game for the school to put rules around what they believe is right or wrong.    This is also really just about "official recognition" by the University.  If you want to have your organization and you really believe in your principles, who cares if you are recognized by the University.     I am tired of all the hypocrisy from every end of the spectrum.  I could care less if a Catholic organization doesn't want to allow gays, that's there choice as far as I am concerned.  I go back to something my parents taught me a long time ago.  My house, my rules.  As long as they are footing the bill, it's their rules.  You choose to attend their University.  Don't like their rules, go somewhere else, but for me the State should not be telling a private University what it can and can't do in this regard. Don't get me wrong, I am tired of the Gay community crying Wolf over everything too.  I actually support their right to marry, etc because I believe in absolute separation of Church and State, but at some point, people need to agree to disagree and move on.
  15.   Just to be fair, are we wasting the TN taxpayers money by giving tax breaks to Nissan, Amazon, VW and many other companies that bring jobs to TN?  I can guarantee the tax breaks they get are worth well more than 6.5 million.  In fact, we give tax breaks to film and television production companies as well.  I guess we are just as bad as California.   If you are against the tax breaks, I guess you are against employing a lot of Tennesseans.  Which is worse?
  16. The only problem I have is it is very clear for anyone watching that they do not shoot all magazine's to empty, therefore they don't have to rack the slide or press a release.  Not that it would make a huge difference, but it would affect the overall time.  I think if you are going to do something like this, at least make it where it is not as easy to say it was manipulated to show the desired results.  I also notice that he starts to shoot faster when he uses the smaller clips to make up time.     I don't think most of the shooters involved in the shootings like Aurora and Newtown are so skilled that they are thinking about round counts as well they aren't going to have magazines sitting on top of a barrel for easy access.     It may not make any difference to the lay person watching this, but I think it is obvious to anyone watching who has shot much at all that this also isn't a good test.  I don't personally think you can use this to say the facts are debunked.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think a magazine ban will affect any of this one bit, but we need to use comparable tests in my view to give any real strength to the argument.  This to me is just fabricated facts.  We don't need to manipulate the results to show there isn't much difference.
  17. If it was an email, someone will find out soon enough.  While people do stupid things each day, you would think someone in a Sr. position would be smarter than putting something like that in writing.
  18. If you're a life member already and maybe have been for a while ,you can upgrade to an Endowment member for $250 as well.  I just did that recently.  I suspect it may be under the same timeframe as the life membership offer.
  19. http://www.sgammo.com/node/1994   Not sure how long it will last. Just got the email that says it's in stock.  Limited to 2 bricks.
  20. Champion Shooters has boxes and cases of SK Rifle and Pistol Match right now.  Who knows how long.
  21. No worries, sorry to hear that.  It's never easy to lose a friend.
  22.   I am not trying to get into a pissing contest, but if it makes me a prick to expect us to be better than the liberals making statements without facts about meaningless activities, then so be it.  We have plenty of real issues to be critical of.  This isn't one of them in my view.  It probably wasn't clear in my post, but I was really responding to the overall thread as a whole.  I wasn't trying to single you out.
  23.   She wasn't there in person.  They just put her on for a brief moment to say who won best picture.  They asked her to do it, it wasn't like she lobbied for it.  I think we have bigger things to worry about than the first lady announcing who won the best picture.   These types of threads just make us look like a bunch of 10 year old's who had a ball taken away.  I don't like his policies anymore than you do, but these types of comments just make us look like a bunch of whiny losers.
  24. I don't personally have an issue with these.  I think many are drawing conclusions and correlations that aren't there.  This is not about "training" to shoot children, or pregnant women, or grandma.  This is about being able to train and better identify on "instinct" a possible threat.  Just because you identify a possible threat doesn't mean that you automatically shoot.  I think most well trained LEO's will attempt to determine if a threat is real or not before firing their weapon.  Not all, but most.  At the end of the day, it comes down to a Human making a decision.  Sometimes they will be right and sometimes they will be wrong.  Welcome to the real world.  If these types of targets help them identify threats better, so be it.     I personally get a little tired of some in the gun crowd complaining when they think something is offensive and then complain when others complain something is offensive, but the gun owners don't think it is.  You can't have your cake and eat it too.  Yes, if they were pictures of black people, someone would complain, even though that wouldn't be right either.  Let's not stoop to their level, everything is not a conspiracy.
