  1. Here is mine... We had our Church's Congregational Skeet and Pistol shoot this past weekend. (Our total for the day were 43 people.) I act as one of the 4 range safety guys... so yeah, that means I usually don't get to shot any till late in the day. After 3:00 a little over half had left and one of the other RSOs stabled a paying card to the edge of the table we were using for bowling pins. He wanted to see if anyone could shoot it in half. I was working the Bowling pin table so I went first. You guessed it! First shot of the day, first round out of my pistol... shot the sucker clean into! I couldn't believe it! I then told my wife we were going to Hobby Lobby to frame that sucker am I am officially retiring from shooting! LOL! (I was about 15 feet away, and yes I have witnesses!) I'll be the first to admit it... a pure luck shot! Doubt I could ever do it again. We had three other guys shoot cards in half after a few magazines of trying. But what really tickled me was my 11 year old wanted to try to do it. I set him up at about 5 yards away on another range and he did it on the third shot!! Wooo Hooo!!! Any hoo, what was your best "Luck" shot?
  2. Thanks again for the support guys! "themark712"... I feel pretty lucky with our pediatrician. He is in Franklin not 1 minute from where I work and is a super cool guy. Very proactive and he is in charge of his group. Not sure what we will do when my son out grows him. Vandy's pediatric diabetes center is amazing! I knew they were good, I just didn't realize just how good. We had another class there today and met a couple who drove up from Alabama. When they found out how close we lived to Nashville they kept saying over and over how lucky we were. Somtimes we feel a bit overwhelmed. So mch to learn and to get used to. We're focusing on it day by day. I feel like when my son is older he may want to try the pump. Also wanted to say tanks to all you guys willing to talk about having Diabetes and "looneeetunes" for talking about how your wife has dealt with it. I must admit, when he was first diagnoised it was really weird. We both felt isolated, alone, and scared. Totally out gunned. (forgive the pun!) Now we are feeling like this is something we can do, and WILL do!
  3. I believe your are mistaken. He is aType I Diabetic. LINK He was mentioned to us about twenty times at vanderbilt, and by my sons doctor before we went to the emergency room. I was joking with the doctors at Vandy about it, I told him if he didn't have Diabetes they would still be bragging about him because it is not often that a Vandy player makes it to the NFL! Most agreed. Type I means your pancreas isn't producing insulin so you need to supplement what your body is not producing. You are very right about how far the doctors have come. We talked to a friend of my wife's that is 67 and has had it since he was ten. It was eye opening to say the least!
  4. When I read the LEO's comments I keep hearing Chief Wiggums from the Simpsons. and it ends with "Nice work Boys!"
  5. Hahha! Yup! A Ruger Mark II. Love it to. Also a .22 single action. But I really like knocking pins over.
  6. Mine is a HK USP compact... I can get a Jarvis barrel for about $200 bucks. (If I did that I would get a threaded barrel and save for a can.) The mags are the same, in fact I only have one .357 sig mag the rest are all stamped .40 I've read that with the USP Compacts you can replace the whole upper slide with a 9mm one and slap in a 9mm mag and be good to go, but HK doesn't sell the uppers, and I'm not sure you would ever be able to fine a used upper for sale. And who knows what someone would charge. Wish I had the money for a used "beater" Compact in 9mm. That would be ideal. Money wise we have had unexpected expenses pop up and we're trying to adjust for those.
  7. Thanks guys! When we first found out we really beat us down pretty quick. We went from taking o the doctor for some minor stomach pains to going straight to the ER, and then ICU for two days. My son has really impressed me. He is counting his carbs, checking his sugar and gives himself half of his shots. We were talking about a camp for diabetes kids and I asked him if he wanted to go. And he thought about and said no... we talked a little more and he said he didn't want to be a "diabetes Kid", he just wanted to be a kid with Diabetes. I almost burst out into tears right then. After dealing with this for a few weeks we have a little better grasp and we don't feel so alone and out gunned. We see now that 99.9% of the stuff he wants to do he can do with no problem. Just a little planning ahead. Thanks also for the prayers. In many ways this has made us reevaluate our priorities (yet again) and for that I am thankful. I would much rather he have to not be burdened with this, but i am grateful it is something that is manageable. Seeing those other kids in the ICU on breathing machines and tiny babies all wired up was very humbling.

    Are you prepared

No offense intended... but you look like a Tactical Hershey's Kiss.
  9. I've reloaded .223, .38-357mag, .45 acp, and .308 I suspect it would be the same as reloading for any other rifle cartridge except it doesn't headspace on the shoulder but the case. If I remember right. I'm going to have to run the numbers real good. Money is getting tight for me so I need to take everything into consideration... time, materials, vs. ordering ammo in bulk or maybe buying a beater G19 to play with. This year has really had some peaks and some major valleys!
  10. Thanks Zydon! We are already taking classes, and the insurance covers it. Not sure about "Disease Management Program" but I will look into it. We were given a ton of information while at Vandy's Children's hospital (and they were GREAT!) and we have been reading all we can on the web. The JDRF has been a great source of info as well. Especially with getting him back into school and seeing his needs are met. We are under the care of Vandy's Children's Diabetes Clinic and have had a Endocrinologist assigned to us. The nurses there have been great! They were reviewing his numbers daily by phone with us and now we are just calling in once a week. The doctor we got seems to be really great and easy to understand. We are fortunite in that a friend of ours daughter is Type I and is younger than my son. They have also helped us greatly. My son is uncomfortable with the idea of a pump for now. I told him it's his decision and that if he ever wants to try it he can. Right now he has a lot on his plate for an eleven year old. Sounds like you have some experience with this stuff. Me and my wife were really amazed at how fast word spread in our community. We contacted by several people we had never met who also had kids that were type I and wanted to offer some support and comfort to us. Thanks again for the advice.
  11. Is anyone here handloading .357 sig? What Powder do you use? Primers? Where are you getting your bullets? I'm thinking of getting the dies and giving it a stab. Prices are just so high for ammo. Trying to decide if it is worth it. My buddy gave me a little over a thousand pieces of once fired nickel brass a while back. Weighing my options. Thanks.
  12. Once again... jealousy rears it's ugly head. . . . . . ... wait a minute... I just typed "rears"... Hahhaha!!!
  13. This is a good example of why it's never a good idea to start reading a thread on the 13th page thinking you can just get a feel for discussion.
  14. I was wondering if there was anyone on here that either has Type I Diabetes or their child does. My son was diagnosed with Type I the first of October and we are still trying to get a handle on all this. Curious if anyone has had it since childhood and how it has affected you now that you are older. Slowed you down any? Stuff like that. Thanks.
  15. A coke... and don't forget the smile.
  16. This really needs to be quoted and read again. It's just that FUNNY!!!! LOL!
  17. My main concern is with a "Super Majority" and this "Universal Health Care". Combine the two and I see a push for insane taxes on both firearms and ammo. In the name of "Health Care". The argument would be presented that gun violence is causing an unfair burden on the "Medical Industry" and so a tax would have to be leveled on those who own, and use firearms and ammo. (There is no profit in banning all weapons.) Sort of a "Tobacco" tax situation. Liberals would eat it up. It would be small at first, but quickly get raised every time there was a "shooting" until the middle class could not afford to own or shoot weapons. I could imagine taxes on Gun Shops, Ranges, and even firearm related accessories. (Maybe even a Federal Tax on Alcohol to offset DUI related health costs.) We are heading into a period of financial uncertainly like we have never seen. Obama will have a lot of pressure to full fill at least some of his promises and he will have to pay for them somehow. If not he will be fighting in four years as an incumbent and answer the question "Why aren't we better off than we were four years ago." The problem with building a campaign on change is you have to deliver. If not you have to be able to blame someone on why it didn't happen. With a "Super Majority" that would be next to impossible. So they will have to figure out some way to pay for all this "Change". Not trying to be all gloom and doom... but this election is more serious than many people realize... on many fronts. Just my opinion though.
  18. USP Compact - .357 sig (1998 Code Date, bought in 2000) Why USPc? - Wanted to be able to carry 10 rounds (during the Crime Bill crap), wanted a safety I could reach without changing my grip, wanted a decocker, wanted something that fit my hand well. (It boiled down to the Sig 239 & the USPc. The added 2 rounds and the deal I got pushed me toward the HK.) Why .357 sig - Chicks dig it and I need all the help I can get. Seriously, I liked the ballistics and the fact at the time so many federal agencies and LE were moving to it. The idea of having .357 magnum performance out of an autoloader was also intriguing. There was also the tapered neck which only seemed to add in feeding... plus if the caliber failed to take off or ammo got too expensive I could always get a .40 Barrel and keep right on going. 125 gr. Speer Gold Dot : Always liked Speer when I was reloading a lot, plus some friends (Yes I have some!) that are LEO's said that was what they carried. Mode of carry currently... Blackhawk CQB Holster, and "Mexican" Carry (Saving for a MTAC per Tungsten.)
  19. SWEEEEEET!!!!! Eyebedam... you have just reached mythical Greek God status to me!!!
  20. We got a RROD on ours a little while ago. (Right after Mercenaries launched.) I'm still waiting for my sister to send me the receipt (It was a family Christmas present.) so we can send it back. We're thinking of getting an Arcade system for the kids in the mean time.
  21. Buuuuuuut NOOOoooooooo! You just couldn't be bothered to mix a little mortar and pour it down the barrel. For goodness sake man! Think of the children! They're our future! We have to teach them well... and show them all the beauty they possess inside!
  22. That looks great!
  23. creeky

    Great sign

    Ohhhhh that is sooooo GOOD!!!
  24. I shot a 10mm Delta Elite a while back. I was amazed at not only how well it shot, but the balance and feel of it. It just felt right if that makes any sense. Very controllable. A real joy to shoot.
