I'm thinking of guns as pure investment. Only a few months ago, silver was $20 per ounce, and now it is around $14. Guns NEVER go down in price, if they are kept NIB. They constantly go up in price. The same holds true for ammo. Something to think about.

Just for information: I lost my permit to carry six months ago. I applied for a duplicate, and it just arrived yesterday. The good news is: I found my lost permit two days after I applied for the duplicate. So now I have two cards. One is stashed away safely, just in case. Anyway: don't lose your card. It may take you six months to get another one.

What about NRA stickers, or Browning stickers, etc. Bad idea for any of these, I think. Thieves might wonder what's in your glove compartment, while you are getting your cheetos in WalMart. Better to keep your car sticker free.

The Ruger is a little smoother and purtier, but will always be the Little Copy Pistol (LCP) in my mind. I think Ruger stole the design, and ought to pay royalities to Kel-Tec, just to be gentlemanly.

Moving to Chattanooga or Knoxville soon.....
mousegunner replied to a topic in New Member Introductions
Chattanooga has about two gunshows per year. One at the Armory on Holtzclaw Ave, and one at Camp Jordan, just off I-75 on the South side of town. I'm not sure on the frequency, they each may schedule twice a year, instead of once. Another thing: the Friends of the NRA have a banquet once each year. I think Hal at the Ammo Dump is the organizer. -
Moving to Chattanooga or Knoxville soon.....
mousegunner replied to a topic in New Member Introductions
I can't discuss Knoxville, since I've never lived there. But Chattanooga is a good place to live. I've lived in a suburb of Chattanooga (Signal Mountain) for the past 19 years. Schools are a mixed bag. Lots of private schools. Medical attention is really good. Memorial, Erlanger and Parkridge are all fine hospitals, and there are plenty of good doctors. There is a free outdoor range at Prentice Cooper Wildlife Management area which is located about 15 minutes out of town towards the West from Chattanooga. If you live on the East or South side, I would opt for the private Cleveland range, which is a nicer range anyway. There are four good places to buy firearms: Sportsman's Warehouse, Sportsman's Supply, Carter's, and the Valu Pawn on Hwy 153. If you go to Cleveland/Ooltewah you will find a few other gun shops. -
I'm a pastor, and here is my opinion. 1. Those who have ccw permits: don't ask, don't tell. Just be there. 2. Don't organize an armed church security group. I think it would be wiser, if you want OFFICIAL armed security, to hire off-duty police men/women.

I had a Hi-Point C9 (9mm) once, and it was a fine firearm, for what it is. You can buy one for about $150.00. It shoots as accurately as just about any other semi-auto pistol. It is not over-weight. (I admit the .45 DOES look like a cordless drill!) It comes with a life-time no questions asked warranty. There's a Hi-Point forum of enthusiastic firearm owners, who also own GLOCKS and Kimbers. Just dont' use it for what it is not meant to be. It is not meant to be a ccw pocket gun. It is a trunk gun, a glove compartment gun, a fishing gun, a bed-side table gun and a range gun. Love it for what it is, at a very affordable price. Here's a lot of pix and my review: http://www.mouseguns.com/hipoint/myhpc9.htm

Someone sent me a pm asking for the manual, and I sent him the link. Some others might possibly need the manual, too. Here it is: http://www.mouseguns.com/savman/savman.htm

Carrying in Atlanta; anything I need to know?
mousegunner replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Don't ask, don't tell. That's usually a good plan. Also, no one on this board would ever advise doing anything illegal. -
Kel Tec Sub2000 or Beretta CX4 Storm???
mousegunner replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Long Guns
Taurus 92 mags and Beretta 92 mags are not interchangeable, so I'm guessing they wouldn't both work in the Sub2000. Here's a photo of a guy's sub2000 and GLOCK pistol combo. -
Kel Tec Sub2000 or Beretta CX4 Storm???
mousegunner replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Long Guns
That's what I have, and I like it very much. Check out my review... http://www.mouseguns.com/sub2000/sub2000.htm -
I put a link to your spreadsheet at my mouseguns website... http://www.mouseguns.com/semis.htm Thanks for all your hard work!

At close self-defense range, there are other weapons that will suffice almost as well as a gun, and they are legal to carry.

Need Gunsmith in Chattanooga
mousegunner replied to bushfox25's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
There's a fellow who once worked at Darr's in Red Bank named Jim Wright. He is a GLOCK armorer. I don't know what other work he does, or if he has gunsmithing equipment available to him, now. He lives on Signal Mtn. -
The LCPs are hard to get. That one might be a lemon, if it is getting unloaded so fast after just coming out.

A rattling magazine is a common problem with many semi-auto pistols, and many "solutions" have been tried. It has to do with the shape of the magazine, and how the cartridges fit inside. I think unless this is your carry pistol, and you don't want the rattle to give you away, you can just ignore it. It doesn't hurt anything.

The least expensive 9mm might be the Kel-Tec PF9... http://www.mouseguns.com/pf9rev/pf9rev.htm

The PF9 is my daily carry. I would probably rather carry a Kahr PM9 or a Rohrbaugh R9, but the PF9 is affordable, and it works. Here's my review: http://www.mouseguns.com/pf9rev/pf9rev.htm

You wrote about the p3at... I would not try to be proficient with a p3at at the range. It is not an accurate gun at longer distances. And such accuracy is not needed. The purpose of the p3at is to give you an edge against a bad guy in an up close situation. It is a back up gun for LEOs, and a personal defense gun for the rest of us. I believe in the phrase: shoot a little, carry a lot, as far as the p3at is concerned. It is just not designed for being shot a lot.

He wrote: I agree. Don't be hard on the cops. They do a tough nasty job most of us would not want to do. They ought to be paid double what they are, in my opinion.

The p3at is a nice gun, and very handy for pocket carry.

Disclaimer: I am not, nor ever have been a LEO. My understanding from reading the various gun boards is that the majority of LEOs are exactly what LEO means: "LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER." They WILL enforce the law, and they will not try to decide if the law is good or bad. They just enforce it. They leave it up to the legislative and judicial branches to sort it all out. I believe if gun confiscation is ordered in a particular city, almost all LEOs will follow orders.

The WASR10 is going for $499 in Chattanooga at gun stores. Kinda pricey, but there aren't too many places to go for one here.
