Hixson Wally World is about out...
mousegunner replied to mousegunner's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I got the last 4 boxes of Blazer Brass in 40SW yesterday at the Hixson WalMart. They were $12.97 or something like that (50 round box). The clerk made me laugh when he claimed that the price would go to $120 per box after Obama gets into office. -
It's a matter of quality workmanship in an all steel firearm, vs stamped out tupperware. Each has it's place, but if you like fine craftsmanship in a pistol, the 1911 is the one you will like better. Here's my pretty Kimber:

Walmart usually has .223 in stock (and not much else these days!)

Hixson Wally World is about out...
mousegunner replied to mousegunner's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Hixson Walmart, Jan 3, 2009 -- "When he got there, the cupboard was bare." Nothing left but a little bit of 30/30 and .223. No handgun ammo at all. Ammo has been back ordered for two months, but isn't coming in. The shelves are literally bare. Sad case! -
thanks for the offer! Mister Browning originally meant his 1911 to have NO GRIP SAFETY, but the army insisted, so that's why is is there. Wayne Novak has designed an add on for your 1911 to eliminate the grip safety. (A rubber band might work for less money!) The question is: Is the gunman a threat to your life or the life of another? If so, then you are justified in shooting. He might shoot the clerk. He might turn around and shoot you. So shoot! Shoot him in the back of the head, sure. On the other hand, get ready for a big civil law suit. Especially if it turns out his gun is unloaded, or you accidentally shoot the clerk, or something like that. That's the price that comes with being safe from criminal gunmen.

The XD and the XDM look like really great pistols. I would like to get one. But I have a serious question. Wouldn't it be a better gun WITHOUT the "grip safety?" Pull the trigger, and it goes bang, even if you don't have a perfect grip on it. Wouldn't that be better for a defensive firearm that might be used in the heat and franticness of the moment? I would be tempted to tape it down permanently.

I think if your rifling is not so good, I would send it back to Ruger. They may replace the barrel for free.

I have a Ruger Mk III 22/45 and it shoots very straight. Mine has the 4 inch bull barrel, just like yours. Here's a photo of the rifling in the barrel...

I believe a Kel-Tec 9mm carbine would be handier than a .22 rifle. http://www.mouseguns.com/sub2000/sub2000.htm

Buy an inexpensive shotgun at your local pawn shop, and trim the stock to fit your preference. Just a few minutes with saw and file and sandpaper. Then stain and varnish. Add a rubber pad, if you like.

GLOCK 27 in front pocket
mousegunner replied to mousegunner's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
OK, the darling grandkids are gone (and I really love them a lot!), and I'm carrying with one in the chamber, now. No more little hands prying into my pockets! And the G27 in the front pocket still seems to work great for me. This is going to be my weekday carry, and back to the p3at for Sundays. GLOCKS are so dependable and accurate, I'm really happy this worked out. -
I received the following email, and thought it worth passing along, in case anyone is interested. I personally don't have the money or storage space to take advantage of this offer... Good afternoon. I have literally 1000’s of old AR mags dating back to the 1920’s and including many full sets from the 1930’s-1980’s. The majority are in good to very good condition. I am looking to sell the whole lot. Can you provide me with any contacts that might be interested? I also have several boxes of other gun mags and catalogs, various publications. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give. I give you permission to forward this e-mail to any party that might be interested. Grim Predicitons from Russian Analyst
mousegunner replied to poak's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This analysis of the future of the USA is really a far-out Russian dream. I would predict a recession for 2009, and creeping socialism for the USA, but all the other stuff just isn't possible. Actually, I would be happy to see the USA split into six distinct nations, with the SOUTH rising again! But, it's not going to happen. I hope our ideas about Russia are not as unrealistic as this man's ideas about the USA! -
Meditations on stopping power

The feller has a way with words. -
Must be one of those "Swocks." sw9ve Actually a decent gun!

More fun with the Chattanooga Times Free Press classified section. Here is a GLOCK Hi-Point for only $260! Definitely a collector's item!
-
But if you really want to be 100% concealed, very very discreet, move down to the Kel-Tec p3at in your front pocket. Carry it in the p3at gun rug, with the zipper undone, and no one will ever know you are armed.

I would wait, and check the classifieds on this forum, and when a used .45 GLOCK comes along for $500, get it.
-
As of Dec 27, the Hixson WW is about out of ammo. Lots of empty shelf space. One fellow told me he had searched all over Chattanooga, and couldn't find any .45 acp anywhere. I got the last 2 boxes of 9mm Blazer Brass for $8.97 each at the Hixson WalMart.

Here's one on Gunbroker.com that went for $125.00.... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=115533958

Someone in the Chattanooga Times Free Press "Guns" classifieds has a Jennings .380 for $250. I think they sell brand new in a pawn shop for $89.99. Well, I hope the feller gets his $250, but I think it takes a lot of guts to advertise such a price! http://www.mouseguns.com/class/dec2008.htm

2008 Tennessee Handgun Permit Analysis
mousegunner replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thanks for the info, very interesting. 3% of Hamilton Cty residents have permits to carry. So, if there are 1,000 shoppers at Northgate Mall, then there are 30 people there carrying handguns. Good to know!
