  1. Went to the RK show in Knoxville , looking for bargains...All the good ones were market priced from the internet & the others were unbelievable ! No one is selling good cheap guns any more ! Nearly all 38 sp are more than 3 bills . The 9's are stupid high, except for the cheapo pistolas that I would not buy on a bet. Alas, this is the market that I saw. Anyone have a Good Buy ?
  2. Now that is something interesting, a re-evaluation of the 7.62 X 25 Tokarev steroided & ballistically enhanced.. I'm not surprised.Nifty round, would enjoy shooting it ! Sure would be neat if it was available @ reasonable cost .Thanks for the Heads Up !
  3. Bass Pro announced it is buying Cabela's today , details on NPR.. Comments ?
  4. I think the SG refers to Sportsman's Guide . A mail order outfit, if I'm not mistaken..
  5. Needed $$$ for car repair so I sold the rifle as-is to a collector @ my cost. He was pleased to get it and values it as a C&R item. I'm glad I could sell it & appreciate the interest of TGO members .THANKS !
  6. Bajabuc and I cleaned the bore of the rifle & when the patch on the tip passed the the dark rings the cleaning patch zipped across the the spaces w/o any resistance.. We felt along the barrel to see if there were any discernible bulges but couldn't find any.. Lacking a bore scope we figured the rifling was gone in a couple of places & wondered if it would be worth re-lining the bore.. I've got less than $250 invested in the rifle so far. A new sleeve would cost about that (plus shipping) . It still shoots, but not as accurately as I would like . What do you suggest? (I don't want to sell or trade anything that isn't in good shape, a feller gets a bad reputation & life's too short to worry, etc.) Any ideas ? THANKS !
  7. Sounds good to me .. I've got some bronze wool & a one- piece small bore cleaning rod w/a few attachments including a cotton bore mop , a slotted tip & a patch pusher . Also have some valve-lapping compound . What lead removers do TGO'rs recommend ?
  8. Not quite as rough as the picture but there are two dark rings that are down the bore from the muzzle . I probably should take it to the range before the day gets too hot & see what sort of 5 shot groups @ 25 /50 yds it makes w/cci standards.. It may not need much remediation (I hope). Thanks again !
  9. Bought a Polish Mosin 22 cal rifle yesterday. Got it home & bore-snaked it to find 2 dark rings in the bore about 5 inches apart. What caused them ? Apology for no pics as I learn by rote & I can't find anyone to show me .Thanks !
  10. So you have an SMLE, what model #3 or #4 ?( My guess is it's a # 3 by way of the blade type of bayonet. Great find ! Mil-surp ammo shows up every now & then but there is a lot of good quality hunting ammo available . Congrats !
  11.  I've got this old Chinese single shot 22cal training rifle that is roll-marked J W 8 on the under side of the barrel in small letters .I believe that it is a copy of a German training rifle but am un-certain what J W means .Any help will be appreciated. Thanks !
  12. Found a buggard up Jap rifle and want know if anyone knows whether any other 6.5mm ammo will chamber and shoot.. ( Rifle has no sights & may be a $$ pit ) Not in military stock either, so not a C&R gun ..
  13. Cosmoline removal ?" Slowly I turned, step by step etc.,"The shortest , easiest way to remove preservative grease is a total immersion baptism in boiling water. The temperature of the H20 will not affect the hardness of the mildest steel and is generally best performed by placing the parts in a cheap metal collander  and heating the water on one of those Korean butane one-eye stoves. Put the collander in one of those aluminum turkey cooking trays with high sides so the cosmo won't go to un-desirable places.Bajabuc & I have used this method many times with outstanding results. It even works on wood innards if you carefully pour the very hot water carefully through the stock into the aluminum turkey cooking tray. Best wishes, Bucnball
  14. Bought the above @ the show a couple weeks ago. Took it to the range today . Very light  strike on the rim of ammo. Any good Marlin 'smith's near Knoxville ? Thanks !
  15. This Weekend @ Kerbela Temple . Not a Big Show but a good one IMO.. (The oldest gun show in K'town.) Won' t set you back $10 to get in, either.
  16. So , can you tell me a simple way to de-prime a Berdan primed case that doesn't require too many tools I do't have ? Thanks !
  17. Why do these bargains show up when I have to pay others ? There were a lot of other deals @ the show today but alas , my pocket was shallow. Feel VEX ed!
  18. An old pal of mine said he read the above in Guns & Ammo back in the early 80's.. I don't think so , but he said it's possible.. I know the 223 case is 45 mm long & such but he insists the commie gun was designed to eat NATO ammo but not the reverse. Can anyone de-bunk his assumption ? Thanks
  19. The folks that have them seem to hold them in high regard.. I passed on 1 for 4 Bills.. Did I bump a buy?
  20. I also have a P 35 and it likes 124 gr ammo. Was told that they were originally developed to use 135 grain ammo. Mine has a "sneak" Polish Eagle proof so am hesitant about shooting it.
  21. What's your budget, dude? I saw a Romanian AK @ Atomic Pawn on Kingston Pike for 5 Franks (plus TICS & tax) . The mag well is a little sloppy but it's a shooting gun for sure. Send me a PM if you care .
  22. As for the sling needing some re-hab may I suggest good old  Sno-Seal  (bee's wax) ? It's always worked good on "dried out "leather as long as it is used sparingly.. You have a real beauty there ,Thanks for sharing.. '
  23. If you're a fixed- sight handgun enthusiast put your sights a bit low.. (Just fooling, you know) Congrats! Hope you get a lot of pleasure from them.. Your Dad or Father-in-law put a lot of thought & craft into your gift ! Salutations for all concerned !!
  24. Though if you can pass muster you can get a non-Resident carry permit . Also , VA also recognizes WV , TX and 2 other states according to the article.
  25. Have an old Webley that was "shaved" before I got it .. Shoots 45 acp with moon clips OK but would sure like to see some of it's ancesters/relatives .. One of your kids/grandkids could probably show you how to post pix on your computer and then to photo bucket or another image hosting website to export to TGO. Looking forward to seeing your old irons !
