  1. There's nothing wrong with you that a shooting session with a rented 1911 @ an indoor range( might help soothe your Desire ).. Buddy up ! Take a friend to help share the fuel expense and provide some company on the way home . If you were in E Tn I would be glad to take you to a local range & let you try one out .Of course, I enjoy revolvers too. Maybe you can enlighten me about Colt vs S&W values. Good Luck scratchin' your Itch !
  2. Or considerate the old but not obsolete 38 Special wadcutter round that has devastating potential & light recoil as it is designed for paper target punching .
  3. If I re-call correctly no less than CCI made some aluminum-ceased ammo back in the 90's when copper & brass got to be too expensive ! Aluminum may be unsuitable for taper case ammo but I'm sure some one in the US can figure out how to make x 39 better & cheaper than the Russians. The market exists if some one wants to try I'll vote with my $.
  4. Doug, I just saw the above and want you to know my Prayers are for you to mend swiftly ! When/If you want to visit Knoxville, please let me & OS know .
  5. Saw mention from Yahoo News that Bass Pro has purchased Cabela's .So or not ?
  6. Also my current favorite the Serbian/Yugo BHO (bolt hold open) mags. Got mine @ RK show Chilhowee Park in Knoxville. Am looking for steel lipped poly mags too !
  7. Thanks, I'm grateful to the astute colleagues of TGO for enlightening me & preventing needless friction . WELL DONE !
  8. I know the code number for the former E Germany is 2 and Bulgaria is 10 ,(or so I'm told) so what are the numbers for the various former socialist republics ? I'm trying to stop a dispute so any help is appreciated. Thanks !
  9. I've shot a friend's Taurus PT 22 that he bought @ local gun show for about 2 bills . It is double-action only & does have a desirable feature of being loadable w/o having to rack the slide. The manual that came with it says it will accept regular & hi-velocity (no stingers or other souped-up) ammo. The good old H&R 6and 9 shot revolvers have been shot loose or are just plain gone, darn it.Hope you find something you like & afford !
  10. Joined last Saturday , submitted similar question with no reply to date.
  11. Got a S & W Victory model revolver a few weeks ago @ an auction. Parkerized finish worn smooth, plain wood grips , serial # S V109345... Anyone know about when it was made/shipped from factory ? Thanks !
  12. Thanks for the enlightenment ! Seems to be like putting a 38 Special round in a revolver marked (Colt) 38 Long. It'll fit and function but adversely . Am I right ?
  13. A friend has a Savage 110 /FP bull barrel rifle that doesn't have iron sights. On the barrel it says 223 Remington . Being it's a bolt action rifle , what will shooting 5.56 mm military ammo do to it ? Any harm come from it ? Have heard that mil spec ammo is too stressful for a bolt action receiver/barrel combination. Also , found some foreign made (Russian) ammo that says it is 223 Remington with a bi-metal bullet .The cartridge case is zinc plated . Would it be safe to use in the rifle or not ? Maybe it would best to use US made 223 R ammo. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
  14. Just for the sake of information, when in the course of WWII was the V model introduced ? (I know I can purchase an excellent reference book about S&W pistols that is recently published but I have a UTILITY BILL that is substantial) They were produced in considerable numbers , I'm told. Is their quality good or just good enough for to perform for war standards ?

    Glock 41

Nice looking ! What's the barrel length ? My old model 30 is feeling envious !
  16. Thanks for the additional Enlightenment ! Not seeing any on dealer's shelves in E TN . Perhaps I'm not in the best place to find revolvers. Semi autos seem to out number them & are more popular. Again, Thanks !
  17. Thanks for the prompt reply ! Glad to hear from from a fellow TGO'r with the facts. Happy New Year !
  18. Who to ask.. How many made ? Hickock enjoys his.. Don't see them @ the gun shows for sale or on Gun Broker/Armslist, etc. Wonder why S&W didn't make more of them. True, they are not Ruger rugged or N frame strong, but the K frame #10 sure fits a lot of average size hands.
  19. North Knoxville , would enjoy meeting ,talking w/TGO 'rs..
  20. My favorite is bronze wool that cannot scratch steel & you can get it @ most marine supply stores though choreboy is a good cheap choice. Question? Is it a Smith/Colt or other revolver?Reason for asking is ease of removal of cylinder/crane assembly. If you can remove the crane/cylinder from the frame cleaning foreign matter from the parts is easier and less possibility of damaging the fit /finish of the pistol. Hope this helps you.

    Non-A1

Found the non A1 this afternoon @ Shylock's Pawn shop in south Clinton. It's a genuine Colt 1911 with a 5 digit serial # , the last patent date is 1913 on the slide,it doesn't have the arched mainspring housing, does have the diminutive sights ,no duck bill web protector, etc., won't cost you anything but time & fuel to look @ it. Good Luck !
  22. In times past , I used a dual rubber cupped device called a "Scope-Kini ". . The cups were attached by parallel strands of rubber & it took a vigorous tug to remove them from the optic bells. Good Luck !
  23. Thanks for the enlightenment ! Will send item to his local Sporting goods dealer subject to approval. Am really Pleased & Impressed with the prompt response from TGO ! Thanks Again !
  24. Can I sell/transfer a pistol to a visitor from another State ? Of course, it's a private sale but I don't want to incur a liability..What's the best procedure ? Go through an FFL licensed retailer ? The purchaser is visiting E TN & wants to buy local because he can't find this pistol in MN. Thanks !
  25. Not an endorsement, mind you, got to handle one @ local sporting goods franchise store on K'pike in K'ville. Target model w/bull barrel. A substantial handful, retail price is $459 plus TICs & tax is too dear for Santa. Would like to own one . Wonder if I could get the barrel by (no pun) itself to fit on my old Mk 1 ? Wistfully ,
