  1. Thanks for the heads up on the aluminum case ammo (and where to purchase) ,saw a few empties in 45 @ the range & wondered ? Haven't seen any since the early 90's and marveled that maybe aluminum 22 would show up before too long.. I've still got a few 50 count boxes of steel cased Russian Junior brand greasy 22's waiting for the day that ?

    1911 low down

I dunno why there is so much bad news about Para's .. I got a GI Expert in stainless for a swap  and $ boot @ a local pawn shop a few years ago .. I have had zero problems w/ it & will cordially allow any TGO member to meet me @ Gunnie's  on Knoxville/Maryville Pike on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to convince me I should have kept the alloy framed P1 I swapped for it. PM me so we can make arrangements.
  3. SG (Sportsman's Guide) has PMC 158 gr soft point for $20.89 per 50 plus shipping according to ad I received this ayem .Might also check gun show @ Chilhowie Park this weekend. Good Luck ! Bucnball
  4. Found about 120 rds @ an estate sale in a poly bag .. It was in the den along w/ assorted tools etc., . Not a brand I am familiar or have heard much about . Enlighten me if you can . Thanks!

    Anti seize

I went to Bearing Distributors & bought some Loctite C5-A ... Label states that it is a copper-based anti-seize lube that protects metal products from corrosion & seizure to 1800 degrees F.  Good enough ?
  6. For cleaning cylinder faces, I've found nothing to compare with wadding that is used to polish motorcycle chrome (though brand names elude me @ the moment !) . Smells like naphtha a bit, and Tarn-ex polishing clothes seem to work well too.
  7. Lone Wolf was out of  barrels for my Glock 30 so I got a Storm Lake & it feeds & flings lead fodder fine... Some one told me they were made in E. TN . True or false?
  8. I got a deal on a Polish Radom last year and found that it functions flawlessly with 125 gr. fodder.. Wolff springs are available and cost less than a spare magazine.. Congratulations !
  9. Got a box of 50 rounds in the Remington green box with styrofoam carrier ..The box is tattered but end flaps are very worn to the point of almost falling off..Ammo is in good condition (Kleanbore Priming) ..What should I do with it? Tumble it in the vibrashine with cob media to polish it up or would the vibration/agitation damage the components or detonate the primer(s) ? Just leave the ammo alone or what?
  10. Not only Mountains but quite a few Lakes in E. TN. ,due to TVA built dams for flood control & electric power production that came in very handy for WW 2 ..Great place to live and usually have 4 seasons , firing ranges both indoors & out available 7 days a week in Knoxville (at least one gun show a month), and lots of outdoor activities biking, hiking and whatever else you or your companions may enjoy. Hope you will consider Knoxville among your choices
  11. Feel free to check out East Tn as well , the weather is good here, usually have 4 seasons, no state income or payroll taxes though sales taxes are a little steep, though no tax on barter or trade.Welcome !
  12. Bearing Distributor on Lee Street in Knoxville has it, as I recall ..
  13. Kroil is made, or rather distributed from Murfreesboro, TN & I believe it's deodorized kerosene .. Do not know what Ballistol made from..
  14. The saving grace of the type 53 is that they have chrome- plated bores & will clean up & prove to be about as accurate as any of it's Soviet brethern. Suggest you find a length of pull rubber butt extension pad and/or present this Spartan weapon to a young Relative or whomever you regard as worthy of an audacious (loud) carbine that was designed to be discharged w/bayonet attached and extended for targeting purpose(s)..I can assure you the report will startle everyone nearby..The original military parent rifle had been found to be too long barreled & not especially an  efficient  use of Resources  ( forged steel) for killing opponents less than 50 meters away..A carbine designed by committee (We need Tanks , not soldiers !) was introduced to the Powers that Be @/ during the Great Patriotic War (WWII) to produce an effective short range weapon @ least expense and provide the troops with a soldier-proof  weapon .Hope you find a suitable recipient for the carbine.
  15. Looks like you have a M-44 Mosin -Nagant Carbine or possibly Chinese M-53 Carbine .. Can't see or tell if it has  plenty of cosmoline (preservative grease) in/on it's parts or not .. Caliber is 7.62 x 54R (R means rimmed ) cartridge. There is a lot of information about these carbines online.. You can remove the bolt easily by turning the bolt handle to upright position and withdraw it by pulling  it to the rear by pulling the trigger. Good Luck !
  16. I was told quite a while ago (years) that the propellent in W(ater) D(isplacement) 40 is propane so that's why the rpm smooth out or the fact that it can be used as starter fluid on carbureted engines.
  17. The analysis of the metal is in-conclusive though interesting..
  18. Besides Gunbroker, anybody have or seen one recently ? Interesting article in latest American Rifleman (February) about 'em ..
  19.  Went to GS @ Chilhowie Park this afternoon in Knoxville .No .22 ammo to be found @ $5 per 50 . Found a few odds 'n ends boxes of  hundreds but no deals on the tables, everyone that has it is mum or smug. 9 mm available , But mostly either expensive defense rounds or bulk boxes for over $120. plus tax. Best deal of the day was some 9 Makarov $12 per 50.. Oh Momma, where is it gonna end ?
  20. The last GS I attended in Knoxvillle one of the vendors had several bricks of .22 Baikal a single brick of Super Colibri 8 or 9 boxes of  Aguila SSS for sale @ $5 a box or $50 a brick. Hadn't seen any SSS  recently so I bought 2 boxes for myself and went on my way. Returned a few minutes later to find all the .22 gone to one buyer . Ouch! (sound of kicking my own ass) You are not alone..
  21. Rec'r is phosphate finished, stock looks un- issued , just don't see them in good shape very often. Thanks !
  22. Saw one of them today and the receiver doesn't look like any Brit  I've seen though the tag says it's .303 cal. and the box mag looks like the 10 rounder in contour it's bottom is folded & stamped though not serial # to rec'r. Lend-Lease rifle perhaps ? No phone/pix available @ this time ,sorry.
  23. I'm not sure of where you could buy  a milled receiver by itself and most magazine and trade periodical columnists i.e., Shotgun News , Gun List (now published as Gun Digest) concluded that the stamped receivers were more durable and no less accurate. Don't know if K-var is still in business or not , their products were always well thought through and very rugged.
  24. Check with Farnsworth in Vonore ..They usually have mil surp stuff in stock..
