Another note about the stove...   Mine wouldn't run worth a darn on the low grade 70% alcohol (30% water), so don't get the cheap stuff.  90% alcohol worked fine but turns the pots black.  HEET was the best.

You're more thoughtful than I am.  Mom's birthday is Sunday.  She's repeatedly told me she doesn't want any more "stuff" and rarely has other suggestions.  This year I got her a gift card to the movies.  Maybe that will prompt Dad to take her on a dinner date.  Or maybe she can go with one of her friends. 

    I went to UT Chattanooga for a couple years.  There were a few areas near campus where one simply paused briefly at traffic lights during the wee hours.   A friend of mine was shot and nearly bled to death during an armed robbery about a block from my on-campus apartment.

It's important to know the laws where-ever you are.  I've heard/read some folks regularly say...         When I took it you were not allowed multiple loaded mags on the firing line.  Only when instructed to do so, load one magazine with designated number of rounds for that string, then fire until empty.  Repeat.

    Get one of those big arse LED light bars and wire it in to your reverse lights with a relay. 

A headboard with a door... easy enough.  Looks like it would be somewhat awkward to access when in a hurry. 

    I don't disagree with any of this, other than the fact that common sense is as common as superpowers.  Would it be exceedingly stupid to arrest and charge someone whose only intent was to help?  Yes.   Does the letter of the law make it possible?  Yes.   I'm only speaking from the experiences of people I personally know. 

    Thankfully no.  I prefer to learn from other's mistakes.    ;)

You might try TOTM's instead of MRE's.     As I mentioned previously, it varies widely.   You'll get the person on the phone's opinion, which may or may not differ significantly from the responding officer.  I doubt "but the guy who answered the phone said..." will be a valid argument.  To the letter of the law, that's hunting from the road at the minimum.  Hunting out of season, without a license, and discharge within city limits could also be added.  You could get anything from the full monty to a simple "thank you". 

Keep in mind that window tint laws apply to where you are, not where the car is registered.  TN doesn't seem to care, but if you piss a VA state trooper off, you will get a ticket for windows darker than 35%. 

    I tell my wife that regularly.  Floor it.  I don't care who or what is around, just floor it.  Bash your way between cars, over curbs, whatever... just get out of there.  I'll gladly sort the damage out with the insurance company later.           Because 99.99% of the people who saw that won't seek any sort of training.  If they try it and do it wrong, they might end up dead.

Interesting that they'd advocate techniques to disarm someone.  Seems like untrained folks would see that, do it wrong, and end up hurt or dead.  I agree that fighting back is key, but I'm surprised they immediately go into stuff that's fairly advanced and takes lots of practice. 

    Just a fairly large, thickwalled plastic bag works.  Put your stuff in the bag, blow it up with air, and tie the top.  Use it as a float while crossing the water. 

Yep.  Light a piece of paper or strike a match and then blow it out.  Rub your fingers over the burned area and then wipe your sights. 

    Yes, very much so.  Bermuda has pro's and con's like anything else, it's slowly taking over my yard.  It's very aggressive and spreads quickly.  It's very drought and heat tolerance and doesn't require much maintenance.  It's very durable.  It turns brown at the first frost and stays that way until temps hit the 70's.  If the brown bothers you, it can be over seeded with winter rye that'll stay green.  Personally, I don't care.        Sam, For your enclosed area I'd definitely use the typical fescue type grass.  Given how small that is, you could probably sod it for a reasonable price.    Now is the perfect time to do it.  It's not too hot yet so the grass will have time to get established before the heat of summer arrives.  You'll have to water it almost daily for a the first few weeks.  The sod folks will tell you what to do. 

Depends on how far it is to get home and what you have to cross to get there.    I'm fortunate in that I work fairly close to home and don't have to cross any bodies of water, so my bag is fairly minimal.    I've got a first aid kit, bug spray, sunscreen, couple water bottles, knife or two, lighter & tinder, hand sanitizer, granola bars, twine, cash, ... that sort of thing.

I disagree. The type of seed sold in the fall won't make it through the hot summer. I have a few spots in my yard where I've patched them with seed in the fall. The grass comes up and looks great until June, at which point it turns brown until October.

Yep. Drums are pretty thin. If you do a burn out, it'll rust quickly afterwards. Paint the outside with high temp paint and leave the inside greasy after cooking. I'd look for a water heater tank or old propane tank. They're much more robust.

Dirt on top of rubber mulch won't work. As mentioned, make sure the ground slopes away from the house. A slight slope is all that's necessary. And I agree, I'd do grass over pea gravel any day. Pea gravel grows weeds like crazy.

    Depends on whether you clean the knife before the officer arrives.    "I dunno officer, I guess the car bumper has a sharp edge..."
