  1.   Not really.  It would take a lot of heat to get it to burn.  But once it started burning, you'd never put it out.  And new RR ties are really expensive now.  There's other more cost effective options.
  2.     Messy, smelly, and they weight a frickin' ton.    Dad and I built a retaining wall out of brand new ties at our house many years ago.  New ones are nothing like the old, rotten crap they sell at Lowes.  The most effective way we could come up with to cut them was to use a chainsaw.  We ruined a bar and a couple chains in the process.    The flip side is, 30 years later, that wall hasn't moved or degraded at all.
  3. So I finally got to see it last night.  Tonite appears to be the last night its showing here.  The wife and I went (she's a fan too... ) and we had the theater to ourselves (which is a little depressing, but also cool for us).          I wish it would've been louder.    The end of it really pissed my wife off.  Apparently she needs closure.  While I can't say I really understood the plot or some of the imagery, I thought it kicked much ass.  Any excuse to film a concert in 3D.    The stage show was much more elaborate than when I saw them a while back.  The images on the stage, screens, and coffins were really cool.  I wonder how much of the theatrics were just for the movie or part of their routine stage show?  Would've been really cool to be at that concert.      And one last thing...  If I had access to a horse, I know what my Halloween costume would be.  :)
  4. They're typically just paint or stain.  The only things I've ever seen coated with creosote are railroad ties and telephone poles.  I sure wouldn't want to build a fence out of those.
  5. It's good that you're thinking about such things.  Seek out some professional training.  If we knew your general vicinity, I'm the fine folks here can recommend a few options.
  6. Of course they knew it was coming...  They've known it was on the horizon for months.     I understand that its somewhat shocking for our government to be the slightest bit prepared for an impending event, but why is this such a big deal?  Having the ability to close exhibits and areas is normal for places like the park service.  Monuments require periodic maintenance and they have barriers to close them off when stuff like that happens.    Most of the signs I've seen were printed standard paper.  The few bigger ones are easily made by a sign company in a few hours.  I'm sure the government (we) paid a premium to get them done over-night, but again... what's the big deal?   :tinfoil:
  7. Losing a good dog stinks, condolences.
  8. I'd think you'd want to leave the back side un-coated.  Unless the wood was completely dry (like kiln dried), you'd want it to be able to breathe, else it might rot under the coating.
  9. The world needs more Flea...
  10. Good stuff.  Yet again, I tell myself that I need to revive my old CBR and find it a new home.
  11. ... and you cannot be charged with illegal possession of a handgun if you've used it for legal self-defense, regardless of location or HCP status.  There's a specific exemption for that in the law.
  12.   I don't disagree... just seemed to be a bit more venom than expected.
  13. The bent metal piece will be stronger than a cast part and will also likely be stronger than one machined from billet.  A quick way to tell if the original part is steel or aluminum is to see if a magnet sticks.  That said, the idea of making one from an old spoon sounds pretty cool to me.
  14. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  I'd never use someone else's reloads.  The savings just isn't worth the risk to me.
  15. Cool. Let us know the results.
  16. Buying with intent to resell is a no-no. It's effectively a straw purchase.
  17. Think it'll work? It'll take a miracle. Bye bye! Love that movie! :)
  18. If you think its a flaw in the finish, get some fine sandpaper and polish it a bit. If it goes away, great. If not, it's a crack.
  19. Time for a little civil disobedience.
  20. Nope. How long before it snaps off completely depends on the extent of the crack, and you'll have to take it apart to determine that. It could likely be fixed with the right kind of epoxy and/or some fiberglass.
  21. If that's supposed to be a carbon fiber reinforced polymer, they're in desperate need of some process development to get the fibers located in the right places and oriented in the right direction. That said, I really don't understand the obsession with reducing the weight of a rifle that isn't heavy to begin with and is generally only carried from the truck to the firing line and back. The compromises don't seem worthwhile.
  22. True, but they had truck loads of cash before the TV show.
  23. Me too. Typical spot for it to crack.
