  1. Move the flashlight to the other side. You may be able to position the light/grip such that you can reach the tail cap with your thumb.
  2. Yep, contact TWRA. Zoos and other such places may take "reasonably fresh" road-kill deer to feed their animals.
  3. Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville, Austin's in Oak Ridge, Frontier Firearms in Kingston, Gunny's in Maryville, Sevier Indoor Range in Sevierville, ...
  4. It means there's large pictures in this thread, if you're on a dial-up internet connection (56k speed), be prepared to wait a while.
  5. Care to comment on the duration of immunity from the vaccine? I have two young children so we get the shot every year (the only year I didn't, I got the flu). I've seen/heard conflicting info regarding the duration of immunity. Some places say 3 months, some 6 months...?
  6. .380 ACP is simply a 9mm "short". Just like .22LR vs. .22 short. "Kurz" is German for "short".
  7. Smart choice. As stated, the chemicals involved are quite unpleasant on a good day.
  8. The engineer in me doesn't like the title... energy transfer is quite real.... but shot placement is obviously the most important.

  10. Um.... I think that's 4 reasons. Sucks getting old, doesn't it?
  11. Cost is king for commodities. Other things you want to get touchy-feely with before buying, and I'm willing to pay (a little) more for that privilege. But I'm not willing to bend over just to keep a local shop in business. My biggest complaint is clueless gun sales people who think they know what they're talking about. They're easy to spot, they talk more than they listen.
  12. I've played with these... fun, fun. You can subdivide the big container into smaller cans (we used old tin cans). You'll know when you hit it. BOOM!
  13. I've never personally experienced it either, but I have seen pictures of what appeared to be lacquer goop in a chamber. The one I saw was a failure to extract problem rather than failure to feed. The guy had several 30 rds mags and blew through easily 100rds in less than a minute. He likely hadn't cleaned it (ever) either. The stock mag doesn't hold enough ammo and takes too long to reload.
  14. I'll echo several others comments... I've had a PT145 for about 7 years and really like it. Fits my hand and my eye really well. While the trigger and accuracy is pretty good, it's certainly not 1911 race gun. It's also a tad heavy but a good belt holster works wonders. You'll be hard pressed to find anything lighter with 11 rds of .45 on tap. Recoil isn't a big deal.... less than a .38 snubby IMO. One thing to be aware of with the PT145... do not buy one that does not have the accessory rail. Early versions w/o the rail had a weak spot in the frame and were prone to crack with lots of use.
  15. HA! oh, and nice gun!
  16. If you blast away in rapid fire mode and then leave one in the chamber for more than a minute or two, the lacquer can melt off the casing.
  17. Assuming the wood itself is very smooth, any of several varieties of oil and a buffing wheel will shine it up.
  18. I read these stories and it makes me feel guilty for not carrying whenever I can, especially now that I have 2 young kids to look after. I got my permit during the previous presidential race. I wanted one anyway, but (unfounded) fears surrounding what might have happened prompted me to get on with it.
  19. Fixed 10 rd mag or aftermarket high capacity? High capacity mags are notorious for feed problems. If you've shot lots of Wolf ammo and gotten the gun hot, the chamber is likely gunked up.
  20. I have the same rifle, though it's not that old. Mine has a crappy Simmons scope that's going in the trash whenever I find a replacement. It seems plenty accurate for an autoloading .22, groups around 2" at 100 yds. Beware of non-jacketed hollow point ammo. Lead round nose is fine, but mine won't feed lead HP's. Mine also has a few dings in the wood where a friend's kid knocked it over. I don't like the color and was thinking of refinishing it anyway.
  21. Bench rest shooting gives you an indication of the capability of the rifle. And yes, the small groups are fun to see. Unsupported positions give you an indication of the capability of the shooter. The difference in group size tells you how far you have to go (which can be depressing).
  22. Amazon.com: Blue Book of Gun Values (9781886768871): S. P. Fjestad: Books You might find one in your local library.
  23. What they said.... It's true that people can change, but only if they want to. The change itself takes a very long time and regaining the lost trust takes much longer. How long are you willing to wait? I've been married for 10 years. My wife's not perfect and neither am I, but we make it work. She does things that drive me insane, I'm sure I do the same to her. Marriage is the hardest thing you'll ever love. While I wouldn't sever all ties immediately, I'd tell her you're not ready to make a life-long commitment. Her reaction will tell you all you need to know.
  24. Be sure the floor in the new place is up to the task. Typical residential subfloor load capacity is 20 lb/sqft dead load. An 800lb safe that's 2ftx4ft is 100lb/sqft. Significant reinforcement is required. If your safe sits on "feet" they'll likely crush the hardwood over time. You'd need some sort of base plate to distribute the load. The garage is a much better location for something so heavy.
  25. If you do stay "on property", I'd recommend you look into the discount flights. They can be quite cheap if you're flexible on your dates. Disney will drive you to/from the airport and with the shuttles and such, you really won't need a car while there. Assuming you live reasonably close to an airport, door-to-door is ~6 hrs. Better than at least double that on the road.... gas, food, traffic, IMO.
