  1. Amount of food would depend on which scenario you are planning for, how many people and available resources . A 4-6 weeks supply of dry and canned goods should be a decent start to get you through general issues. Just remember the more dry goods you store, don't forget to increase water supply to be able to cook it and clean.
  2. Right now you can still get chicks from Tractor Supply Co. I'm not sure how long they keep them, but they sell them every year. For goats, you might try talking to some of the local farmers market people that deal in meat and see if they have any good connections for them.
  3. Stumbled into an Asian or International Market did we? Fake meat isn't that uncommon.
  4. If a camera isn't an option, think outside the box. Simple enough to see if it's a critter or a person, just take a bag of flour and dust the carport floor where stuff keeps moving. You'll either see animal prints, human, or a human trying to wipe away tracks. May even be able to follow them a bit with a black or uv light since it should glow a little. Or make an early warning "booby-trap" to warn you it's not just a random motion light trip.
  5. That coyote looks like it's got mange. If you have dogs, wash out the bed really good if the ride back there.
  6. Macks Prarie Wing has Hawk Helium sticks in stock right now if you need more. I bought a Millenium Monster from them on sale and got a really good deal, daved about $40. Figured I'd give a hang on a try this year. I got a set of Muddy Stagger steps too for those not so straight trees.
  7. If its just for fun, I say a light caliber, 22lr, 22 wmr, 223...22-250? It will give you a little more challenge which is more fun. A few week's ago, a couple of buddies and I were hitting a 6in steel target at 175yds with 22lr. All three of us were using Rugers, but that's personal preference.
  8. The only downside to public land, depending on size, is if you find a nice spot to hunt chances are good somebody else has scouted it too. Find yourself several locations so you have a backup in case somebody is at the one you planned on hunting that day. People are also lazy so the deeper you go, the less likely you will have competition.
  9. I saw a sign yesterday on hwy 57 for the Moscow (TN) Shooting range. Don't know anything about it and this is the first time I've seen this sign in this location. Facebook page appears to show some outdoor ranges.
  10. There is a range near Jackson, TN that I hear is reasonably priced but I forget the name. If you are mil or leo, I believe MSSA does a discount on the initiation fee.
  11. Try calling Camp & Trail Outfitters on Collierville Town Square (Army surplus store). I've seen some in there before. It's been several months since I've gone in there so I don't know if they carry them regularly. I want to say Sportsmans Warehouse in Southaven has some form of MRE over where the freeze dried camping foods are.
  12. That's like the what, 3rd or 4th Walmart around the Memphis area to have the gun cases get hit in the last few years? You would think by now they would secure them better or have dedicated people for that area.
  13. Georgia tried pairing farmers with hunters a couple of years ago to help with hogs. Not sure how well that worked out. TWRA will still probably make it hard to hunt them once they become rampant here.
  14. If you can handle a 5hr drive from Johnson City, Woods n Water in Wrightsville, GA might be worth a try for you. Me and 3 friends did a 2 day (night) hunt there. It's 1 hog a day though. We came out of there with 2 hogs, a coyote and a missed opportunity at another hog. It's fair chase on about 5000 acres total, so you may or may not get one but they have feeders everywhere with stands nearby. The night after we left somebody shot a 400 pounder.
  15. Don't know anything about this place, but Gorilla Offroad has this on their site. Says you can mount a winch to it. Lp Adentures out of Canada sells some too that are bigger. They have US distributors on their site.
  16. Until you said winch, I was going to suggest looking at the one Rally Innovations makes for the new WRX to mount lights and see if you could mod it to work. It's like a smaller brush guard but not heavy duty. I've "threatened" to put HD bumpers om my wife's Outback if she can't dodge obstacles better.
  17. If you have a community college nearby, see if they have any listed under Continuing Education. Tennessee has a program that came out a couple of years ago to help adults get an enhanced education for little to nothing. Not sure of all the requirements but go to https://www.tnreconnect.gov/ChooseaDegree/CollegePath/tabid/5230/Default.aspx and you can type in "welding" and a radius to your zip code and it will pull up options.
  18. Well that sucks to hear. Now that hunting season is over I was going to pull mine off and see if I had better luck with them a second time for the same defect. It doesn't sound like it would be worth the effort.
  19. AIM Surplus is running 20% Off right now on their charging handles if anybody is looking for one.
  20. I sent mine in for the same halo effect at the top end of magnification. All they did was clean it and say that was a normal effect of aging or some bs like that. Considering the scope was only 2yr old at the time and it only created the halo after a particularly cold hunt, I'd say they are full of sh*t.
  21. I've used them and still have a set on one rifle. They aren't so tight that you can't rotate them, but they are snug. Only downside is if you are a little on the wider side of the flex range on the objective cap, the cap may pop open if bumped.
  22. Try Comp-tac. They say there L-line holsters can accommodate multiple medium size lights. http://www.comp-tac.com/holsters-for-guns-with-lights-or-lasers/l-line-10617
  23. It was so warm yesterday and today I didn't bother getting out of bed. The forecast starting Thursdaylooks promising, low 40s for highs. I've only seen one shoother buck all season.
