  1. It's the curse of the older gun. I search out 7mm mauser, .300 savage, .38 S&W, and .250-3000  like Diogenes searching for an honest man. (with often the same result.) Reloading is the best solution.
  2. If it's an older ranger with the pulley and cable steering, check the cables and the mounting brackets on the pulleys. If you ever have one break or pull out of the fiberglass while zipping down the lake you'll have a mess to clean up on the seat.
  3. I had a  Mod. 24 DL with the left side mounted selector switch, took 2 years to find a replacement selector bar for that gun. I had a ruger 77 in .22 hornet that was a pretty good gun, but heavy. I have an old H&R single shot in hornet that is my pasture gun at present. With a 6X weaver it doesn't go much over 5lbs or so, and I can call the shot out to 150/175 yd. The 45 gr. bullet doesn't have much horsepower past that anyways. Valmet used to make a .22 hornet over 12 ga that the europeans doted on, I haven't seen one in years.
  4. Another vote for the Big South Fork. You could spend the rest of your life hiking and camping it and still not see it all.
  5. When the gun binds up, open the cylinder and check the case head. Look for a shiny or raised area around or on the primer. The primer "flowing" back into the firing pin cut-out or recoil shield will make it hard to advance the cylinder to the next cartridge.
  6. I've got a Springfield GI that I put decent sights on and changed out the mainspring housing assy. to get rid of the lock. I like it as much as my P220.
  7. May have to start a petition with TWRA to allow centerfire for small game. I would hunt with a carbine in .38 special, .32 long, .32-20, .25-20, etc. They'd have to word it so's guys wouldn't be spraying and praying with their AR's, but it would be doable.
  8. Snowing this morning on the mountain, hard frost tomorrow morning forecast. I've got chiles and tomatos out, hope they make it.
  9. stand the cases in a pan of water to about 2/3's up the case. Lightly do the propane till color shift and knock over case into water. Do it in batches.
  10. Cordova has been rated one of the top ten retirement areas in the U.S. And Millington is nice also.
  11. In Monterey Tn., at the old Kings grocery store, they would sell you individual .22 shells, 10 for a dime.
  12. And the rest of the story is that it's April 1st. I've been had.
  13. Numrich Arms, aka Gun Parts Inc., is bailing on New York. Now that is one yankee I'd like for a neighbor.
  14. Ahh, what the hell. There's so many here now at Fairfield Glade, (old yankee graveyard), That a few more won't make much difference.  It's like illegal aliens, unless you build a fence, they're gonna find a way.
  15. nah, we just have our quota here on the mountain.
  16. It's like a mini lottery win when the message pops up.
  17. That's your call. I won't be wronged, especially with my own money.
  18. Lock stock and barrel (that's the name of the seller) has 80 pieces of .340 brass on auction arms website.
