  1. Congratulations to all that got deer. I didn't get to go this morning but, I got a feeling it was not all that great around here anyway. Maybe I'll get another chance later in the week.
  2. That dang north wind is rough. I went this morning until 9:00 and didn't see anything. I usually stay out at least till 11:00. I only heard about 3 shots this morning, and that's strange for opening morning. All the shots were at least 2 miles away.
  3. Well you said mid range and long action in post #14, so , its .30-06 for me. In short action its the ............ .308. Sorry.................
  4. A friend of my uncle, built a cannon like the ship models with 4 small wheels. I don't know what they was called. He built it full size and shot about a 4 ounces of powder. My uncle said it would be moved  back a few feet when it was fired.
  5. How much powder do you use for a load? I was thinking about a pound per shot. 1f cannon powder?
  6. That's pretty neat. I love to see Mosin humor. I'd like to have one of the T shirts comparing AR15, AK47, and Mosin Nagant. They're a little expensive though.
  7. That old rifle is a little different and unique. Thanks for posting it.
  8. Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.
  9. I just wondered if anybody knew of any places in Tn. or neighboring states where there's some military rifle shoots. I'd love to shoot my rifles at a place like that. Thanks for any help.
  10. Like the others said, try and use something that will penetrate good. The impressive 125 gr JHP that is a great defense load won't be great on deer. Just keep that in mind.
  11. Very nice. Have you had a chance to look it over good yet? Nice bore?
  12. I'm with some of the other guys. Strip it and refinish it with tongue oil or boiled linseed oil.
  13. Yeah, .267-.268 is a odd diameter. Their 7.35 caliber that came out later was weird too. It is about a .300 caliber more or less. Back on the original subject. Does any body know if these bullets that Sidewinder has are Cupro Nickel?
  14. I've not heard of this. I can see where it would be useful to a lot of hunters though. Most calibers and loads will go through a deer and keep going.
  15. Have you checked recycling centers/scrap metal dealers? It might be sellable.
  16. I've heard these are based on '98 Mauser actions but, I could be wrong. A 98 will be 7 7/8". It sounds like you have a shorter action though. I would think somebody would make a stock for these.
  17. Thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about getting into casting myself. I've already got 3 molds and about 35 lbs. of wheel weights.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

I like the M14 but, am wondering about the STG58.
  19. Glad you got it out easy and it didn't cost you anything. I stuck a .357 case in a RCBS standard steel die once (not a carbide die) and sent it back to RCBS with a note saying that I would pay to have it removed and they replaced the die free. RCBS is great! Its not happened to me since though.
  20. I've never heard of that caliber either. I would send him a email and ask a lot of questions about the rifle, and maybe he will answer your questions. I hope you can find out what you want. Let us know if you do.
  21. I have shot a lot of 158 gr. cast loads with 12.5 gr.- 14.5 gr. of 2400 and they're not all that bad on recoil. 2400 is always been a good powder and gets good accuracy a lot of the time.
  22. I've been reloading since '87 and bought a Lee Challenger press and still use it. Its had several thousand loaded on it. Mostly .38 Spl and .357. As far as a press with priming tool or a separate priming tool, that's your choice. I bought a Lee Auto-Prime when I started and still use it. The Auto-Primes use another type of shell holders but, they are not very expensive.  As far as a trimmer, get what you want. I would get a regular bench mounted one if I was going to load more than one caliber with a pilot set. Some people use walnut media in their tumblers. Get some decent calipers too. You mentioned bullet puller, I use a Frankfort Arsenal impact (hammer type) and it works good. Its easier to just use the shell holder and put in in the puller instead of the collets. As far as components go, I'm kinda lucky, there's a great store about 8 miles from me called Gamaliel Shooters Supply in Gamaliel, Ky. They have pretty much whatever I want. They have great website too.
  23. That was funny and interesting.
  24. I've killed 2 deer with my .357.  I've been shooting some 180 gr. hard cast flat point gassed checked bullets. I loaded them with 13.5 gr. 2400 and CCI 500 primers. I've not killed anything yet with them though.
  25. Thats a lot of brass, and you got it sorted and arranged good.
