  1. For a lot of dogs, the Pack Leader issue really messes up their compass. As far as the shooting. Well, cold, yes, but honest. It might not be the best option depending, but sometimes, it is the more humane depending on the situation.
  2. I have an old Rohm, one of the old German ones, from the early 60s as best I can tell. I traded a pocket knife for it when I was a kid. It is cheap, feels cheap, looks cheap. I have never fired it. The owner before me, another kid at the time, had dry fired it so much, the cylinder was buggered and you couldn't feed rounds into the chamber. I still have it, buried in a box somewhere. I can't bring myself to throw a gun away, but I use that term loosely.
  3. It is my opinion, that you don't get cooler than Esmeralda. When I finally pick up a 1911, that will be the first thing I do to it.
  4. Something will have to be done soon. That much is evident. What is done might not be what we all expect or desire. Watching the way our government puts on kid gloves any time Mexico is mentioned.
  5. I posted on the first page I was going to CCA. After being a patron there for a year for the range, I am almost willing to admit that my first visit and rude treatment was a fluke. Of the dozen times or more I have been in there since, I have been treated very well.
  6. Welcome aboard! Good deal falling into all of those guns like that. Be sure to read up a bit on cleaning and the like. It seems simple, but it is anything but. I inherited all of my father's guns, but sadly my mother was not gun savvy. Most of them set in a closet untouched for 20+ years. Except the old coach gun, that set next to a window. It is not pretty now. Functional, but no pretty.
  7. Just got back. Perfect written. Perfect shooting. I did have two fliers in the 8 ring. Two in the 7. I was sad. All in all the class was good. The instructor was personable and approachable. The class was varied as well with students. It was small and pretty painless compared to what I expected.
  8. Buddy of mine had a V8 Fiero right out of highschool. That thing was nasty.
  9. It is also the name of a Tom Petty Album.
  10. I am taking the course at CCA Saturday. I have a couple of co-workers that took their's there, and they didn't have any negative things to say. I went in this morning and reserved my spot, took me ten minutes. Another co-worker took his in Oak Ridge, I forget where he said, but he enjoyed his too. The benefit I see from CCA is that they have an indoor range, which means I won't get rained on or be cold regardless of the weather. I don't get many weekends off. Come take it with me, that way I will at least semi know someone there.
  11. IMO in order: .22LR, 9mm, .40S&W and then .45ACP.
  12. Yeah, that was kinda mean the way that ended. There is so much up in the air right now.
  13. I was raised with Dobermans. My grandfather and then my mother raised them. Great dogs. I have never seen an albino Dobe before. That is awesome. Does he have defects, such as hearing?
  14. If it was the only way to watch it, I would watch it in Low-Def. However, after upgrading to a HDTV, sadly just this year, I don't know how I lived without it.
  15. I appreciate the offer. However I think I am gonna order the whole kit and kaboodle from Ables, they seem to have the best price on that particular scope. They offer a high rise set-up for around $10.
  16. The recommendation to pull the pants up has nothing to do with how I feel about his style. It has to do with function. If the pants are pulled up, the gun will ride higher and conceal better. With the belt loose and the pants low, there is more of a chance that the weight of the gun will pull his pants down. That would be a rather embarrassing situation. As far as the tramp stamp, I wasn't gonna mention that, but since someone else did...
  17. My wife is around that age. Maybe, I won't go into any more detail for fear of being beat. She was not progun by any means when we married. However, as her politics have changed, so has her stance on guns. She is still wary of them, but open to the idea of getting her HCP. Watching the news is what did it for her. She is also very glad that I am what she terms a 'gun nut.' The simple explanation I gave her was 'If anything were to happen to you, and I was unable to protect you, I would never forgive myself.' It changed a lot in her way of thinking. After the recent rash of shootings here in West Knoxville (the formerly good side of town) she has warmed up to the guns in the house greatly and begun learning how to use them. As for my daughter, I don't have many worries, she is taking after Daddy and is pretty much a 'gun nut' as well, even at four.
  18. I have to agree with the pulling the pants up and tightening the belt. I would also suggest moving the position to either the 5 o'clock like mentioned above, or rotating forward to 2:20ish. That would prevent the printing a lot better. The other option is to try a cross draw at the 10:30 position, something I have pondered doing, since I do a lot of driving, it would be easier to draw from a seated position.
  19. That is awesome, I would love to do classes like this.
  20. I picked up one of my guns from my youth this weekend. It is a Mossberg 640T, a bolt action .22WMR. I am looking for some cheap optics for it, something to have fun with. Punching holes in paper. I don't need anything long range, I do most of my target shooting at CCA. I have a rimfire scope I took off of my wife's Nylon 66, however, I find that it obstructs the bolt handle on the Mossberg, making it unable to cycle. The receiver has the grooves cut in it for a weaver mount, but I am at a loss here. Should I source some new rings, or is this just a lost cause forcing me to use irons? Simmons has a scope that interests me, but as mentioned above, I am at a loss for rings. Has anyone encountered this before?
  21. I like it. I am a sucker for a lever gun.
  22. Uncle Ted, Rhoads, and Vai are among my favorites.

    Ar-15 Questions

    Well, yes, I didn't think in terms of Ar-15 versus AR-10. AR-15= Multi Cal AR-10= .308
