1. How well that container is locked plays a major role in determining the legality of the search itself.  There is specific case law that addresses the nature of locked containers and the test for searching them is officers can not search containers so well sealed that a weapon could not be obtained.  This case from looking at the pictures on Voldemort's website clearly show that you can still gain access to the weapon by separating the kydex even if it is locked.
2. I hope no one takes this the wrong way but i have a suspicion that the same people who are saying the cops should have waited and gotten a warrant for the case, would be screaming about detaining mr embody for several hours on the side of a busy rd in in downtown nashville if they had actually gone that route.  Some people you just cant please.     The officers did what was reasonable and prudent given the circumstances for the situation.
3. dishwasher at a restaraunt Kennel technician at a animal shelter  (Guy that cleans dog shit)  then a dog catcher for a little while fry cook at a dog n suds   Little over 10 years in the Army as an MP.  Lots of pieces of it that i loved but by far the most enjoyable time of that was being a  squad leader.   Turned down a PSD assignment in SHAPE Belgium to do what i do know which is being a stay at home dad for my soon to be 10 month old daughter.  This is by far the most rewarding job I've ever done.  Shes stubborn like her mother and so curious about the world around her as all babies are at this age and more laughs and scares than i could have ever imagined. It's gonna be tough for a little while after i start school full time in August.
4. jayC     to speak specifically towards your probable cause argument it is easily argued that the case due to its form fitting nature made it appear as if it contained a AR-15 pattern rifle with a magazine inserted.  It also had the appropriate weight to be containing an actual rifle.  Given Mr Embodies attire at the time and his general demeanor a reasonable person would believe that the rifle contained in the case was most probably loaded  the search was initially limited to determine solely if the weapon was clear.  at that point they noticed the suppressor that mr Embody would not provide paperwork for.   You could also make a weak plain view argument.  As it appeared from the outside of the case that it contained an AR-15 pattern rifle with an inserted magazine.   Of equal importance is that the 4th amendment protects against unreasonable searches.  There was nothing unreasonable about the officers searching
5. Leonard's a douchetard but he's not dumb.  To push it under the TFFA he would have to run afoul of the BATFE.  Since he is an FFL holder i highly doubt that he wants to do anything that would provide them  with just cause to yank it.  He couldnt sue if they pulled it for a good reason.
6.     He's the precinct commander for the central precinct.
7. lenny can sue all he wants he wont win this law suit either.  I hope the ATF yanks this guys FFL.
8. 1:42 in  that video clearly explains his entire reason for doing this crap.
9. can we get a thread merger
10. I dont think the search would be viewed by a court as illegal mainly due to the form fitting nature of the "Rifle case" if you can call that abomination a case.  The case makes it appear as if a magazine is inserted into the rifle  Carrying a loaded firearm is illegal.  So the officer had plenty of reason to detain him to make that determination.  It would be reasonable for a police officer to assume given his dress (body armor) and general demeanor that the rifle was loaded.  Opening the case was required to confirm or deny that it was loaded.  Once the case was opened they saw a suppressor that mr embody was unable to provide documentation for.  he was arrested on that charge.  Once he provides documentation for the suppressor then the charges will likely be dropped, but providing said documentation is his responsibility not the police officers.    for those still in doubt lets look at the definition for probable cause   "a reasonable amount of suspicion, supported by circumstances sufficiently strong to justify a prudent and cautious person's belief that certain facts are probably true"   Due to the fact that they may be dealing with an armed individual it is reasonably prudent to conduct a search of the rifle case based upon the probable cause that definately existed to ensure public safety.    No way a judge is throwing that search out, not that it will ever see a court room because mr embody will provide the required documentation for the suppressor.
11. I wouldn't be to very worried with shipping it between with established members here. but to CYA correspond via emai save the other persons name email phone number address etc.  Ship it with signature confirmation.  That way worst case you have the ability to file a police report for it.
12. I have several pairs of the 5.11 pants and a couple pairs of the shorts.   What drew me to them was the number of pockets.  They allow me to carry everything in an organized fashion without my pockets bulging out.    For every day carry of a firearm there are a few features that i really like.  The waste bands in most models have a little bit of elastic.  This allows you to carry IWB or OWB without having to go up or down in pants size.      The magazine pocket is a great feature.  I use it for a mag only when i'm not wearing a shirt that allows good concealment of both the gun and a spare magazine.  The remainder of time it holds a gerber multi tool or various other bladed tools.    More than anything i like that there casual enough for everyday wear but nice enough looking that i can wear it with a button down for a more professional appearance.   I tend to use one of the cargo packets to hold my wallet to keep it further from my waist line.  Mainly i do that to prevent accidentally displaying my firearm/holster or my mag carrier.   The back pockets are larger than typical pants and held shut with velcro and make them pretty good for pocket holsters
13. running a filter on it will help reduce that to a certain degree.  so would running a light that isn't as bright.  The down fall with both of those is you loose a little bit of the disorienting effect that the light has on the bad guy.   If you have good night vision as it, you shouldn't be relying on the light until you are reasonably sure you know where the bad guy is. At that point you should either be leaving the light on or turning every light in the house on.  there isn't much reason to go back to darkness once you've found the threat.   There are some things you can do with your home lighting to give you the better tactical advantage as well.  For me i leave a small light on in my washer dryer area.  This provides very dim illumination to the living room and kitchen area and will still silhouette a person in the hall way.  I leave the rest of my house blacked out.  Basically add just enough light to silhouette the BG throughout their likely avenues of approach while leaving your avenue of approach to high threat areas a dark as possible.   Your pistol light should only be used to illuminate a threat for final target identification and shoot/don't shoot decision.     For one person home defense i really do not suggest attempting to clear your entire house.  Clear forward just far enough that your family is safe behind you and establish a solid defensive position at that point.  Single person room clearing is the most difficult and dangerous type of room clearing there is and although knowing the area offers you some advantage it is still not preferable.    Hope this was somewhat helpful.
14. Worse case for Illinois id tell them i sold them at one of the gun buy backs.  Legal transaction and no records are kept from the buy backs so it would be up to them to prove you didn't.
15. no i didn't take any photo's during the process.  That pic was more to illustrate the change in the trigger shape that results from the modification.  If you at a stock trigger photo its pretty noticeable.    I'd be willing to do a step by step instructional with photo's start to finish if there is a person in or around clarksville that would like to provide the donor weapon.
16. I was reading another members review of one of the Apex kits for his M&P and it reminded me that i never got around to doing a write up of a couple of DIY mods that i did for my shield to make it a more enjoyable gun. To start off with let me say that there is nothing really bad about the shields stock trigger but there are a couple of things that could be better. The first modification i did was to the sear its self. Using a diamond file and some Emory paper i re profiled the portion of the sear that is engaged by the trigger bar. Basically all your doing here is changing the angle a little bit so it more naturally meets up with the trigger bar and helps prevent some of the gritty feeling. Next i polished the portion of the sear that engages the striker pin. This resulted in an overall smother feeling trigger and seems to have lightened up the pull. I don't have a tool tool to measure it to be sure, but it feels better and thats what i was going for so good enough for me I dont recommend doing the above modification your self unless you meet one of two requirements. You are either experienced in doing things like this or your willing to buy new parts. For me i was on the edge of buying an Apex kit for the shield as i have one in both my other M&P's so i figured what the heck give it a try and worse case id have to buy the kit. The next modification i did was to the trigger itself and is a modification designed to eliminate over travel. The trigger guard on the M&P's have a little plastic bump in them that is designed to work as an over travel stop. The down fall with M&P triggers is that the trigger invariably breaks well before reaching this over travel stop. This will be more of a how to Things you'll need Epoxy putty diamond files Emory paper To perform this modification you begin by detail stripping your pistol, removing the trigger from the frame. If you look at the back of the lower portion of the trigger you will notice its hollow. This mod fills this void and then some to change the shape of the back of your trigger. Begin by using your file to mark up the inside of that void. This will allow your putty to have a place to adhere to. Followed by cleaning and drying the area. For me i used a polymer putty that bonds well to plastic. This can be found in your local walmart and only costs a couple dollars. apply the putty into the void causing some excess out the back side of the trigger. Don't be afraid to have excess as it gets removed later by filing and sanding. Allow to dry over night. Once dry begin rough shaping of the trigger using the diamond files. Remember to leave a little bit of excess, that will be taken care of during the final sanding. once you have the general shape down with a little excess reinstall the trigger. With the trigger installed on the gun you make you finishing adjustments with the Emory paper or very fin grit sand paper. Your going to want to cut your paper into strips to make them easier to use. Slowly remove material until your trigger is just barely able to break . In the case of mine i now have somewhere around .012 inches of over travel before the trigger hits the stop. I measured using paper and a micrometer. My paper was .004 inches thick. The trigger would beak every time at a strip folded in half or .008 when i added that third layer (.012) It will come to rest without breaking but if i apply enough pressure a little bit of the paper will give and the trigger will break. adding a 4th layer and it will not break. Since i had it out at the time tinkering with it anyways i took some bright orange high visibility paint that i had and added a drop to the front sight to increase contrast. I think its fitting to end this post with mentioning that the files i used for these mods were gifts from DaveS during TGO's Secret Santa. I get all sorts of use out of those things.
17. to put that in perspective (and someone correct me if my math is wrong) but one MOA would be roughly 76.2 meters at 30KM  so that would be accuracy of around .015 MOA.  Got to love cannon launched guided munitions.
18.   Wow, you must of went to the Angela Corey School of Law.  Even if i make the assumption that their actions were criminal (which i don't) how do you get to premeditated murder.
19. You've got my sympathies for the shingles by the way.  Hope to never have them, from what i understand that is a special kind of pain that no one should ever have to suffer.
20. You could always try a dragonuv PSL.  A little over your price range but not by much.   Plenty accurate if using quality ammunition and lots of surplus 7.62x54 ammunition out there for it.   Another option well within your price range would be a Remington 750.  Its available in a number of different calibers that would meet all of your requirements.  the only thing that wouldn't is the magazine capacity, although there are 10 round magazines available.  Not as accurate as some of the other rifles mentioned but still plenty accurate for the distances your talking about.   Most people report approx 2 MOA groups and under with good factory ammo and approaching or at 1 MOA for quality hand loads (Disclaimer:  there are many mixed reviews about this gun, independent research suggested)
21. tanker, for me its not the content of the link.  It's the link without any thoughts being conveyed by the original poster.  Forums are meant to generate discussion and these topics definitely do generate some good discussion.  it would just be helpful to have the discussion framed somewhat by an initial post.    Discussing the increasing occurrence of mistaken identity killings by LE. I would think is a perfectly valid topic for this forum as one of the reasons many of us own firearms is to defend ourselves and our homes.  From the article it appears as if the homeowner was doing just that.    It has the tendency of coming of as being anti LE, when something is posted of that nature without any additional discussion.  Many here will vehemently defend personnel on a LE capacity unless there is direct evidence to indicate the LEO behaved in a criminal manner.    Being at the wrong house on accident isn't criminal no they shouldn't have been there but they did not realize that.  It is likely that both the officers involved and the unfortunate man who is now dead could have both deescalated the incident without anyone shooting each other.     It is reasonable however to expect an officer with a gun pointing at him would shoot the person holding it,  It is also reasonable to expect if you are snooping around someones house at night to potentially have a gun pointed at you.  there is no perfect answer in this situation.  It would require all three people to engage their brains and use some critical thinking skills.    the biggest start would be getting the freaking address right, but we have no way of knowing how well addresses in this area were marked.  Anyone who has ever worked in a service that had to find a home at night  (LE, EMS, FD, Pizza guy/gal etc) will tell you some home are extremely difficult to locate.   Individually though, we can assist in this process by ensuring our homes addresses are more easily identified at night.  Larger number, house numbers on the curb, reflective house numbers etc.  At the same time this department needs to look nto its training regimine to see if there was an issue that can be corrected with proper training.
22. Cultural perception will always contribute to how the African American community views police activity.  The unfortunate reality is that racism does exist in our society today.  And racially racially discriminating tactics used by police were a very common occurrence not to very long ago.  It causes the African American community to view things from a different perspective than the remainder of society.  Not saying i agree with their assessment of the situation, just i can see how the past effects their views of today.    Arguing it from the police perspective isn't really necessary because it will not change the views of the community involved.  But if i were to argue it my argument would be that a white informant going into a black mans place of business is in no way racial profiling.  However believing that all white people are out to get you is racially profiling.  The community claiming the investigators/informant were racially profiling is in fact being racist in its beliefs because they are treating an individually differently based sole on the color of their skin.   it's really a no win argument from the sheriffs position, but would be great if he came out and said that.
23. Not seeing the racism there.  Targeting of businesses like this typically only come after several reports from the local community of possible illicit activity.  The arrest was obviously wrong given the factors that we know after the fact.  But until evidence is offered that's contradictory.  I am going to make the assumption that police did not tell the informant to plant anything.  The informant likely did it on his own acting out of his own self interest.    That gets into the entirely separate issue of how police should go about dealing with informants and their use/misuse.  Given the choice between jail/prison and helping the police many will choose helping police.  And when your cooperation is evaluated solely upon the outcome ie  did you give us the information we want to see (regardless of its accuracy) you create an environment where things like this are an almost guaranteed outcome.    Informants are an invaluable tool especially in narcotics interdiction as they allow you to have access to people and information that you could not possibly gather independent of their use.  Their use on the other hand needs to be extremely limited in scope.      With all that being said, i think their should at minimum be an independent review to determine if the officers involved were in any way responsible for the informants actions and if they were they should be held liable for any damages done to the business owner.
24. I have a couple IWB's for my M&P's so far i think the most comfortable/easy to conceal is my comptac minotaur.   I have a crossbreed for another pistol that i also find to be at the same level of comfort and concealment.   If your on a budget but are capable of forming kydex yourself the old faithful holster kits are a pretty good buy and usually ship pretty fast.
25. welcome to TGO.  No shortage of talking about guns here.  The classifieds are pretty great to.
