  1. because that is one less thing you can get in trouble for?
  2. i go to prentice cooper. its 8 miles from my house.
  3. yeah i read somewhere that the accounts here are limited until you hit like 50 posts.
  4. better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 and that is all i will say.
  5. shoot a glock 33 with 124g speer jhps if you want to feel recoil. i saw the .40 is far easier to shoot. i was at the range several months ago and a couple of off duty LEOs were there shooting and one of them asked about my 33. he asked how it felt, recoil, accuracy blah blah. i laid it on the table with a full mag and said see for yourself. he handed me his service weapon (22) with a full mag and let me have a go at it. it shot so much smoother than i was used too, mind you all i had been shooting was the 357 sig and the 45. both of those rounds have a small kick to say the least.
  6. amen to that. i carry the same pistol, but i use the Speer 124g JHPs. this puppy is a mini bazooka.
  7. when i took my course in Chatt a little more than a year ago, here is what happened. when we went to the range, the instructor asked who all had shot in a closed range before. when we signed up, we were told to bring at least 100 rounds. so we go for the shooting qualification, and she informs us of the range rules, etc. she then handed out the targets, and told us that this was a free 45 minutes or so before we were goign to actually be scored, so listen up for range commands and practice away to your hearts content. there were several reasons for this, my class was broken into 3 sections. one set was watching the state mandated video, another set was on lunch, and the 3rd set was in the range. the video was about an hour long, so the breaks were tied up with this timeframe as well. i personally only used my 100 rounds. 50 practice, and the rest for the qualifying part. there was a guy next to me that went through 150 rounds or so just practicing. after class, he bought more to shoot the rest of the evening as the range was closed to the public that afternoon. im sure the shooting portion will be different from class to class as the sizes probably vary from week to week.
  8. when i clear my glock, i do it this way every time. i drop the magazine then manually work the slide 4 or 5 times then i lock the slide open. i look in through the top to the barrel, always pointing it at a light. after visual and physical verification the weapon is empty, i release the slide lock, point the weapon at the ground and pull the trigger then remove the slide from the frame. the guy whose picture was shown had to either be a newbie or he was just in one hell of a hurry and paid the price. either way, it was a stupid, careless mistake. im sure the last thought when the trigger was pulled was how big is the hole in my hand gonna be, and where will the round go after it shatters my hand? who in the world puts a flat palm against the barrel of a gun when breaking it down? i have never done that nor do i personally know anyone that has done that.
  9. illegal per every letter of the TN HCP law. your weapon must stay on your person and in your car UNTOUCHED. i.e. dropping kids off, picking them up. you must not touch the weapon in any manner.
  10. i say wear a shoulder rig. that should get the point across. this will start the open vs concealed, but when riding a bike, your options for carrying decrease alot. what if the perp wants the bike and you have the gun in one of those bags on the bike and you get blind sided and pushed off the bike? gun and bike gone. with the TN HCP, i say carry it in a shoulder rig. but then again, i dont care who sees mine when i carry. that is one of the reasons why i went to the trouble to get my permit.
  11. here is something from another thread here on TGO. Lawmaker won't be rejoining panel where he blocked bill By Tom Humphrey Wednesday, January 23, 2008 NASHVILLE - State Rep. Rob Briley is no longer a member of a key House subcommittee that under his guidance in the past has been a roadblock to passage of so-called "guns in bars" legislation and similar bills. Briley, D-Nashville, had served as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and, in that position, appointed himself to serve on the panel's Criminal Practice Subcommittee. He lost the chairmanship after being arrested last fall and subsequently pleading guilty to drunken-driving charges. Rep. Kent Coleman, D-Murfreesboro, was initially named to replace Briley as chairman on an interim basis by House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh. Naifeh said Tuesday he has made Coleman's appointment permanent. "I think it's in the best interest of the institution because of what has happened," said Naifeh in an interview. Coleman has decided that Briley has no seat on the subcommittee that traditionally reviews all bills involving criminal statutes. The subcommittee now has five members instead of six. In the last legislative session, Briley led opposition to a bill that would allow those with handgun carry permits to take their weapons into establishments that sell alcoholic beverages. The bill died in the Criminal Practice Subcommittee after passing the Senate. The panel has also posed problems for similar measures, such as a bill by Rep. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, that would have allowed people with carry permits to take guns into state parks and other recreational areas. This year, the Senate has again passed a bill that would allow carrying of pistols into establishments selling alcohol, so long as the permit holder himself does not drink. The House companion bill, HB702, is sponsored by Rep. Joe McCord, R-Maryville, and awaits its first vote in the Criminal Practice Subcommittee. No date has been set. Briley said the prospect for approval of the bill "absolutely" increases without him as a member of the subcommittee. Coleman agreed. "It has a much better chance of passage this year than it has since I've been in the Legislature," said Coleman, who added that he personally has "an open mind" on whether the bill should become law. At least three members of the five-member subcommittee would need to vote for the bill to get it through the subcommittee under normal circumstances. Naifeh, who opposes the bill, can vote on any committee or subcommittee of the House. Should he exercise that right and oppose the bill in the Criminal Practice Subcommittee, the measure would then need four positive votes for passage. Naifeh said he would wait until the bill comes up, then make a "that-day decision" on whether to vote on the measure. The speaker said he does not appoint panels with the fate of any particular bill in mind and, if the bill passes, "that's just the way the cards fall." Tom Humphrey may be reached at 615-242-7782.
  12. call the local health department of the city/state you were born in. in normally takes 2 weeks to get a certified copy by mail. i had to have mine to get my HCP as well and i was born in Ohio and my original was lost in a house fire. i emailed my cousin, and all she had to do was go to the health department with my name, birthdate and both my parents names and they issued her the certified copy right then. scary huh? and people wonder how the hell identity theft ever happens.
  13. welcome to the forums. you will find very colorful opinions here and alot of useful facts as well. there is no shortage of information in these forums by any means.
  14. it sure is nice to whip out that HCP at a traffic stop and watch the LEOs face pause a minute as they kinda forget why they pulled you over to begin with.
  15. TN gun permits are valid for 4 years. drivers license is 5 years.
  16. i did find that the convention center is on the blacklist for carrying. check it out for yourself. http://www.tennesseefirearms.com/mem_svc/banning_locations.asp?quick_link_menu=mem_svc%2Fbanning_locations.asp&btnGo2=Go
  17. well before the laws get overhauled, that nazi Jimmy Naifeh needs to be out of his position. he is the huge blocking factor on any attempt to improve right to carry laws in Tennessee.
  18. i went to Carter's Shooting on highway 58 for my class. cant remember the girls name that is the instructor though. very nice young lady. she has a great reputation for females in chattanooga, shes no where near as intimidating towards women.
  19. i have the G33, which is the cousin to the 26 and 27. very easily concealable. love it.
  20. the amendment was added in the hopes of getting it passed i do believe. while it would still restrict bar carry, I.E. the hole in the wall bars that have a jukebox, pool table and a bartender, it would still allow you to goto Chili's or O`Charley's or Red Lobster as the majority of that income is from food, not alcohol entirely. and i agree with that. maybe this will let it get though this time. lets keep our fingers crossed.
  21. lmao look what time that post was made. thats what i get for trolling around internet forums at like 2am.
  22. i really dont care who knows that i carry. its better if your in a car with someone to let them know your carrying incase there is an accident and your knocked out and have to goto the hospital. that way, the friend can take care of what might be a big problem later.
