  1. I really don't care what happens to CTD,   Started my boycott when they jacked the prices of Korean M1 carbine mags from $7 - $9 to $50 - $60.   There are too many on-line and local retailers with competitive price points for me to even consider giving a nickel to CTD.
  2. I checked out their website, I don't think I'll ever measure up. From the "american warrior test" page   There are 3 levels: American Warrior...93% American Operator...87% American Defender...75% Only 7 people have ever reached 93% and made the American Warrior level. Only 8 people have ever reached 87% and made the American Operator level   ONLY 7 people / 8 people - if this includes their instructors, what chance do I have? I might do better on American Gladiator...
  3. I renewed by mail and was more than pleased by the turnaround time.   Like others, didn't want to hit the DMV, waited around until the last minutes, finally mailed it.   Assumed 6 - 8 weeks, got similar results - 2 - 3 weeks from date I mailed it out.   Kudos to the professionals working at the Dept of Safety, HCP Division!
  4. That 101 year old Remington is in amazing condition, congrats!
  5. What's the difference between an "S" and an "X" series?
  6. I tuned my SP using Iowegan's Gun Guide (newer version of the IBOK) Used the Wolff Kit, 8# return spring - 10# is better for a more postive reset. Also used the 10# hammer spring with no light strikes but I shot it ALOT before putting back into the carry rotation.
  7. They are marketing as a NIB Colt based on this statements, "Each working Colt .45 pistol" and "There is no better canvas for the “We the People” Tribute than the Colt Government Model .45 pistol."   Pretty sure they are assuming they will never be fired after, " Craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers decorate..."   Should hold value based on, "featured on the left side, near the hammer, is the familiar stylized Colt logo, signifying that each pistol in the edition is an Officially Licensed Colt issue."   Of course, this IS a sales/marketing site...    I don't have a clue to the retail cost of a new base model Colt is, but assuming $900 you're paying $1100 for the detail/finish work.   Is that a good value for the type of detail work being done?   I would do a search like "America Remembers firearms for sale" just to see what's out there to help me in my buying decision.   Good luck!
  8. I won't disclose, but like Dolomite, I have many rounds in many mags for all of the firearms in our bedroom.   All guns are always loaded? You best believe this is true in my home.
  9. Suprised that came from a Nutnfancy video, he seems to be pretty well versed with firearm operations.   As others have posted, It does bring up a critical training/teaching step; proper loading, unloading, dry fire, function & handling of a firearm.   I do it when I get a new platform.
  10.   Daddy-O,   It may have been on TNoutdoors9 youtube reviews, I can't remember the exact source.
  11. I think $280 NIB TS with scope is a good buy and with the receiver bolt clips, it makes breaking it down a little easier.   If you're looking for a reliable platform effective out to about 100 yards with basically a lifetime of free parts for when you need to tinker, go for it.   You will be able get you $$ back out of it if you hate it.   I think OS hit it on the head, everything else will be well north of $500 - $600
  12. I've had a HP995 for years with years of trouble-free plinking.   The 10 round mag is the biggest con for the platform, I think I saw some 15 (maybe 20) rounders from ProMag, but have heard some less than stellar reviews   Paid $175 ftf for a Planet of the Apes LNIB (never fired) - I spent the money to upgrade to an ATI Storm-knock-off stock and then again for the HP TS stock.   The TS stock is well worth the upgrade and it should be noted that the "flexbility" of the HP stock is engineered to be part of the recoil system.   If you get any failures, HP will send you all new parts if you need to replace anything worn.   Also be aware that the mag lips may be slightly out of spec which will cause failures to properly feed. The HP forum guys also recommend breaking in the mags (load them up for about 2 weeks before use)
  13. I am a Speer Gold Dot fan, but as others have stated, most "modern" SD stuff will work; whatever you select make sure it functions reliably in your gun,   Stay away from Winchester White Box 147gr JHP advertised as "personal defense" It is "old" technology and I have seen tests where it fails to expand and acts as a fmj.
  14. John Sevier hunter education center off rifle range road is a pretty nice facility.
  15. I am trading off my M1 Carbine ('43 receiver / '44 barrel) to my best bro.   Makes sense, he will get more use out of it than I and it will reside with "seasoned" company (a Garand, a 1911 and a 1917)   Here's the cool part, his son (my godson) is one. With proper care and maintenance, he could conceivably be shooting these relics when he is 80, which would make the M1C 150 years old...   In comparison for us in the here and now, 150 year old firearms are 1860s mfg...
  16. Welcome to TGO and thanks for sharing - that is a really cool piece in what appears to be in good condition!
  17. What I am understanding is treat it just like a handgun going across state lines...   FFL to FFL to stay "legal and compliant"
  18.   Does this mean I can direct ship to his house and avoid FFL? It is going to MO.
  19. I have worked a trade with my bro which means my M1 Carbine is getting a new home.   It is being shipped to his FFL; I thought I read somewhere that I can use the USPS to save some bucks over UPS/FedEx.   Please advise   thx   GtG
  20. Like Jab, I too saw the 10round capacity I saw no value over my HP995.   North of $600, I'd consider a Beretta or search out a Ruger or Marlin.   For the budget conscious wanting hi-cap in a 9mm carbine, why not the Keltec?
  21. If you're not a fan of the 1911, you've GOT to be a fan of one of the other cool firearms that shoot .45acp...Thompson SMG, Criss Vector, or even a HP 4595...
  22. It's only "gouging" if you can't readily buy elsewhere and are forced to pay his ammo "core charge" and double retail for accessories.   I understand from the thread, he is the only act in town (Millington) and apparently his business model is to "get all you can"   If he's been in business for a while, it's working...but I am curious what his repeat and referral percentages look like (excluding range customers)   How big is Millington? I can't see a huge under-informed / un-educated population base to pillage over the long-term.
  23. I currently pocket carry a Kahr MK9 daily and it has delivered 100% reliability. I like the trigger action and it fits my hand very well.   I prefer the extra weight, in what Kahr calls a sub-compact; it makes this small 9mm platform fun to shoot    As mentioned above, pockets are key with along with a proper holster and belt.   While I am hesitant to mention it, everyone does know that if you pocket carry and need to re-holster, you REMOVE the holster from your pocket BEFORE re-holstering your handgun, right?
  24. Based on the responses, is it safe to say if I buy new I'll pay $10 for a great deal - $15 would be fair; used $5 - $15 depending on condition?
