It's alive, but needs just one more part...
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Lolololol....many months ago. I've got an "almost too nice to shoot" Bavarian import, was looking for a beater to start this project. For an initial $250 investment, I though this was the one, quick stock swap and...spend more money buying tools and parts. It was non functional when i got it, so it needed mechanical TLC. -
Concur on pricing vs. SMKW, I know the CZ (based on condition) is a fair but. Unknown on the 5946 / HP
-
Had a few S&W 5946 for $449, 2 FN HP for $399, 1 CZ vz.70 for $229

Quick report on the M1 carbine money pit project. It works and I'm happy. My emotional attachment comes from rescuing, re-building and re-purposing a 70 year old military firearm. Discovered I have one mag with weak spring. Had a set back with my budget optic. Millet SP1, advertised for rifles with heavier recoil. Something broke loose inside. Dot still works, glass is fine, held zero for 175 rounds and impressed it continues to work considering the EXTREME heat transfer from the aluminum handguard. Not worried as I can return to the retailer, get a credit and upgrade. Considering a Burris Fast fire or equivalent. I think the wider field of view will be more user friendly mounted forward of the receiver. Note: For fun, sport or serious shooting, 100y max, in actuality 50 or less.

1950s Spanish FR-8 HANDY DANDY Rifle Indeed
A.J. Holst replied to Ramjo's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Cool, just learned something new. Plus, I find it aesthetically pleasing. It's a great looking rifle. -
I'm sure our 5 remaining too-big-to- fail, now-control-more-of-the-market- than -in-08 bank corps are drooling over the possibility of negative interest rates.

(Re) Holstering IWB Holster
A.J. Holst replied to ReeferMac's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I'll add make sure your cover garment is clear so nothing snags in the trigger guard. For my hammer fired guns, my thumb presses down on the hammer while re-holstering -
I'm an SP owner. Got a 2" which I, with Iowegan's Gun Guide, did some light trigger work and spring swapping. Learned some skills and it's better than factory. It was my original EDC, upgraded with fiber optic front sight and Trausch Grips. Received a 3" Gemini Custom as a gift, it's pretty darn sweet. For SD, I currently have. 38+p Speed GD and the Win PDX equivalent. I can get back on target more quickly and reduce muzzle flash (assuming a low light situation) I shoot .357 at the range when I'm feeling inadequate and need the attention from the fireball and retort.

Technolgy has made an impact in un-developed various areas of the African continent, at least what I've heard on NPR. Different groups are distributing solar chargers for small devices, lights, etc. Not sure the best use of technology right now is ease of Facebook access. It could take the Nigerian Prince Scam to whole new level. It's his money, I have zero right to it, I didn't earn it. I can disagree with how he spends it, but again, it's his money that he legally earned, without oppressing workers, lying, cheating, or stealing. He won't miss the money.

Medical marijuana = no gun purchase
A.J. Holst replied to xsubsailor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
"Do you use drugs illegally?" The Rule of Law is flexible, elastic and open to interpretation. Phrase it just right... -
Found the other gun owner in my complex...and he is dangerous

I'm with 911 crowd. I'm not going to confront and potentially escalate (unless I have my baton and he's driving a subie - classic) because that not my thing and not everybody needs to be shot. Www.dudeism.com Can't eliminate The Big What If; i subscribe to pests eat fast...if it becomes a threat - act accordingly -

Change the verbiage from, "Do you use illegal drugs," to "Do you illegally use drugs" -
I heard, but have not verified, workers on the West Coast have been requesting less hours to keep their $15/hour wages from adversely impacting .gov benefits and entitlements. Hell, let's just print more money

The 1A allows you to say virtually whatever you want without fear of .gov reprisal. Private citizens can express disagreement by not buying anything he is affiliated with. I don't agree with his views and he plays a game for a living...so who really effing cares what he says or who he is? Ted makes a good point; is there a code on conduct while on the clock? Does the employer allow a personal soapbox or stage in the public arena of their business? Does the employee have the right to use the employers public forum to spew forth personal agendas, motives or brain dead statements? Wonder if he retained some earnings or is broke like a huge number of professional atheletes.

If I knew then what I know now about EDC
A.J. Holst replied to mbeard1's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
All I can add is with a good belt, holster and appropriate clothing, a little guy like me, 5'9" 165#, has carried a CZ75B, P01, SP101 and MK9 fully concealed with relative ease. I've even carried 2 of the above at the same time while attending a class. -

Gray, that is awesome, especially with the bayonet lug for extra zombie poking. What model Reflex? I have a 1" tube red dot, which is border line too small to be mounted that far forward; I've decided not to re-install the over-receiver scope mount.
-
I have one for my 3" SP101, couldn't easily find a left handed holster, worn AIWB, with reinforced top. Stays put, friction retention works well.

Policy wonk proposes practically eliminating cash
A.J. Holst replied to Hershmeister's topic in General Chat
How in the world would we pay the Iranians if we went cashless? Having worked in the lending money box for 20+ years, cc's can be scary good and scary bad. Imo, we all pay 1%-3% more for goods and services to pay the merchants trans fee, whether credit or cash. Debit has a lower merchant fee than credit. Sears makes more income from finance charges than selling merchandise. Watch your high credits vs. balance vs. total revolving usage, perfect credit with high utilization and low credit availability adversely impacts your credit score. I'm a cash guy, I spend less and experience fewer impulse buys. -
Poor diagnostics The original purchase came with an installed Numrich over-receiver scope mount. Bought the ventilated guard with the Choate folder. Wrongly assumed ejection failures due to scope mount; spent brass hitting mount and deflecting back down into receiver. Bought the railed guard to solve a problem which may or may not have contributed to the FTE issues The railed guard is a nice piece of aluminum, I don't like the extra weight it adds out front and get too hot to touch while shooting.

Aug 27 Knoxville Suarez Training Day
A.J. Holst replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
Just so you all know, August 27 is Saturday, not Sunday. I figured that out 20 minutes before class and there was no way to make it. Maggie and George, expecting gunfire on Sunday graciously allowed Randy to proceed today. 100 mental push ups later... Do I win the annual dumba$$ery award? -

Sight solution for Long and short range
A.J. Holst replied to ReeferMac's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
NOT an expert, just a guy who does a lot of googling. I think a variable 1x4 is a good compromise based on my VERY limited personal experience, reading posts here and the Googlefu. I'll let others in the know chime in on which brand/ model. Just so happens, I bought BSA's budget version, $70-ish. Supposedly AR rated, it ended up on my SMLE sporter, so we'll see how it holds up.
