  2. Can't add much to what has already been posted. They were good and needed at one time, but have long since no longer served a good purpose.
  3. FCC License Search Here is another good website to look up frequencies.
  4. Good advice on the not stopping at your house and calling 911 Farman. FYI: JLowe and EMTRN are both LEOs. Anyone with the gold badge icon under their name is either a current or former LEO.
  5. The main purpose of my post with the AG opinion was just to point out that if a person is hospitalized in a "mental institution" it doesn't matter whether it was voluntarily or not. Also that as no matter how much you may have abused alcohol or drugs in the past...that if you can stay clean (or at least out of trouble) for 7 years then you can get a HCP, but that there is no such period of being ok for being found mentally ill. So although even alcoholics say you are an alcoholic for life, as long as you don't have a problem for 7 years you can get a HCP, but have one freak out episode and you can never get one. But anyway... Back to Traumaslave's question...I don't think the DOS really has a way to check any of this on their own.
  6. I agree there is a difference between a hospital and a mental institution (never meant to imply otherwise) and thankful the state can tell the difference apparently. I did not know what type of facility Parkridge Valley was. Thanks for the additional information.
  7. I think that is the right decision, but the AG would seem to disagree. See AG opinion 08-22, question 2. In his analysis he says if a person has ever hospitalized in a mental institution, whether voluntarily or not, that person is permanently disqualified from obtaining a HCP. There was a bill last session to put the 7 year time frame on voluntary commitment like there is on other things, but it was shot down like other bills.
  8. That's a good question...I'm not 100% sure they do. I wrote to the Washington AG once asking why they do not honor TN permits. He answer had something to do with TNs inability to check mental health issues.
  9. Yep, even unloaded and in the gun rack, if the ammo was in the glove box that could be considered in the "immediate vicinity" and be illegal.
  10. Post 10 in this thread.
  11. NO! It has to be unloaded.
  12. I understand that...I was saying that IMO it was an attempt to stop the car. Hmmmm....I guess that is possible, although I'm not sure that is the situation in this or all cases. I did know the use of bright lights/takedown light or a spot light was to light up the interior of the car/plate and to hinder the driver's vision as the officer approaches. (So can't get a good shot etc...) That would have been a good way to identify themselves as law enforcement. Well guess I was just using the wrong term, I just meant I though they had enough reason to stop the car if they thought it was one they had seen doing something wrong.
  13. But weren't they attempting to seize him by flashing their bright lights as they were still driving down the street? Or it least I think it appears that way. It would seem if the reasonably believed the vehicle matched the description of one they were looking for, that would be enough PC for traffic stop just as it was for them to come into the driveway.

  16. Well if she becomes Sec of State all she needs is for something to happen to Obama, Biden, Pelosi and Byrd all at the same time. line of succession
  17. Since OH is shall inform, Yes, probably should have told him right off. But with that statement out of the way, I think this is a prime example as to why to not always blurt out you're armed or handover your HCP in TN. At times it can make an issue of what would otherwise be a non-issue. Of course there are times where it may be better to inform. Glad it all went well. ....but are there any such thing as federal traffic laws?
  18. Federal law only says someone under 21 can not purchase a handgun, it doesn't say they can't carry one. In many states those under 21 can get a permit see here. In several states that allow OC without a permit 18 year olds can carry, even younger than 18 in some.
  19. It could be done..... If the criminal check was done more often (I want to say once a year) I think it could count. With some of the stink maybe still in the air about the checks not being run on renewals, the legislature could revisit how these checks are done. It could be a time to suggest the checks are done annually (which would look good to the press and sheeple) and also get it to count as a TICS check toward the purchase of firearms (good for us). Of course what would probably happen is the extra cost of running more checks would just be added to the permit and renewals fees. Depending on the extra fee it might still be better for some, not for others.
  20. Sort of long joke....but definitely funny....
  21. Let me clarify....it is supposed to be 8 (4/4) hours. ...and I bet that is what is turned in to the DOS. How long it actually takes, well....
  22. Sort of like when CBs first came out you were supposed to be licensed....
