  1. Funny. Right after i posted this, I did a Google search for Phoenix Model Raven. According to Wikipedia, Phoenix Arms bought the design from Raven in 1991. Maybe, my grandad meant mid 90s instead of mid 80s...lol.
  2. So my grandfather, who is 80, has been on me for months about finding him a .380 after I let him shoot my LCP. So today we were going to look at a S&W Bodyguard, when he pulls this out and says " Do you think somebody would give me $50 for this?" I pulled out my wallet, and handed him $50 as I said, "shouldn't be hard to sell for that." Now, I really don't need or want a Raven .25, and have read up on them in the past to know they are a love/hate kinda firearm. It's just the point it belonged to him. He bought it new in the mid eighties for $60. Only been fired a few times. It has been sitting in a felt lined drawer of a Gerstner tool box, loaded, for almost 30 years. It really is in awesome condition. Hard to get a worthy pic to be honest. I may have to get a new mag(the spring in this one is wasted from being loaded forever) and actually go shoot it a few times. It will be a nice family heirloom after that...
  3. I bought an AR used from a guy that was built by Predator Custom. I called and talked to an employee there about the rifle, and he was extremely helpful. You would have thought I bought it new from them.
  4. I love the Reece look with the long handguards! Very nice build.
  5. Millett is great glass for the money, but a little higher than $200. I still vote Redfield. From what I understand, they are a division of Leupold. I have a 4-12x40, but a 3-9x40 would work just as well and be right at $200.
  6. I have had an Evolution on a previous 10/22 build and am using a Blaster on the gun I have now. Boyds make excellent products that really can't be beat for the money. I believe thier Tacticool stock is ambi also. Another site to check out is www.stockysstocks.com. Similar to Boyds. Or www.rifle-stocks.com. There is a guy in Manchester TN that hand builds stocks. Seen his work..wow, dude can checker a stock now! I could get his info if your interested. AS for "good" inexpensive scope. You will get a million opinions here. Redfield is hard to beat for the money. American owned and operated, crystal clear glass and 1/3 the price of a Leupold. Cant give advice on the octagonal barrel. I have a GM fluted stainless on mine. Sounds like you have done some homework, and plan to build a great little plinker.
  7. Obviously he has never seen Lethal Weapon. Mel Gipson forming a smily face at 30 yards alone makes the Beretta 92 the coolest handgun of all time!
  8. I watched most of it. I understand how he wooed so many people into voting for him(I did not). He says exactly what most americans want to hear. I honestly think(hope) those same people realize it is just talk. All I heard was blah blah blah...
  9. Man that would make a superb carry gun!
  10. I had a full size Scorpion. Got it on a trade, unfired. I shot it some and traded it off. Seemed to be an excellent made firearm. Shot great. Looked great. I agree with the comments about it being somehwat non traditional. Which isn't a bad thing. Not really sure why I got rid of it now that I think about it....
  11. They are fun to shoot. And fun to customize! Nice pistol you have there!
  12. He has some Keltec shotgun that just came out. A KSG maybe? Anyhow, very cool. Holds 14 rounds in the tubes. Worth stopping by to check it out.
  13. Going out of town on your left on Hwy 55. Right before you cross the railroad tracks. Small building, but he has tripled inventory since he opened. Great people to deal with.
  14. I talked him down to $699. He had $769 on it. Which looking at gunbroker and gunsamerica, there are people paying those kinds of prices right now. I took it apart today. Cleaned and oiled it properly. It really is alot of 1911 for the money.... I absolutely have to have new grips for it though. Black Wilson Combat grips and a stainless mag well are in my midwayusa cart!
  15. Sure, I'm a sucker for a damsel in distress!
  16. SO... yesterday I walked into a new gun store here in Tullahoma called Chi Rho Firearms. I have made several purchases there already since it opened a couple months ago. I had stopped by yesterday to price a scope, and on my way out something caught my eye from the case. A Ruger SR1911. I have been wanting one(along with 10 million other gun advocates)for months, and you just don't see them sitting in a case. So, I told Chad I wanted it, and went back today and picked it up. Supply and demand have driven up prices from sea to shining sea. I got it for $699. Which is high compared to online pricing, but nobody online has them. I have called several other stores in the area, and they too have gone up on price. So, if you want to play, you have to pay. Besides, doing business with a guy just starting out, in a small town, to me is better than sending money to a "bubsguns.com" who could care less if you are pleased with your purchase. All in all I am very happy with my purchase, regardless of what some folks have bought them for. Some might say "dang that is alot for an SR1911", I say "lucky me for getting one"...lol Besides, Chad and his family are great to deal with. I will definately be buying more from him in the future!
  17. The M&P Sport looks pretty appealing to me for an entry rifle at around $625 from local dealers.
  18. I haven't searched local dealers, but looking online, they are hard to find. I want one....really bad! Unfortunetly, due to the "supply/demand" problem, when you do see one for sale they are way overpriced. MSRP is $799, which means they should go for $700-$725 new. I have seen them listed used for $900. I don't want one that bad.....
  19. There were 2 people with used ones for sale on ###.com in TN a couple weeks ago. Not sure if they are still available, but worth checking into.
  20. To get back to the original topic. I have absolutely no idea if there is any truth to Remmy making guns just for Walmart. However, being a tool and die maker myself. If I was manufacturing a product and a retailer offered me a huge contract to make guns specifically for them....well....its all about the Benjamins. Now with that said. Costs will be cut to manufacturer at a cheaper price. Process can only be modified so much to reduce cost, so it falls back onto materials. Cheaper plastics, cheaper alloys. And yes, quality will suffer just a little bit. Sucks I know, but it is reality.
  21. The only bad part is not getting to shoot as often as you'd like. I keep telling my wife we can't have too many guns. And will never have too much ammo. She doesn't even care anymore...haha!
